DH, the kids, and I are leaving for Cancun on Saturday :cool1: Finally, after a year and two months of waiting our time has finally come. We traded for a 1 bedroom at the Royal Sands. It cost us 140 or so points. This is our first Interval trade.

I promise to post pictures and a trip report when we get back!

Royal Resorts are really nice! They have a very good reputation for service to their guests! We love Cancun, the weather should be great and the water will be warm!

Do you have an itinerary yet? Have you been to Cancun? Do you gave any questions or need any advice?

Have a great time! Looking forward to your trip report with pictures!!!

The Royal Sands is very nice and we loved Cancun. For those that might read this thread, they should realize that the studios there are essentially hotel rooms. I would not trade for a studio at the Royals.

Melissa your time has come and you must be very excited.

We are going in July and it will be our first time in a 2BDR. Please take notes for any recommendations, things you learned after the fact, lol, etc. Suggestions/tips, restaurants, transportation, shopping, etc. welcomed. Are you renting a car? Who is picking you up at the airport?

Looking forward to your report and hopefully plenty of pictures. Have a great time.

I will absolutely take lots of notes for you! We are not renting a car. Cancun Transfers is picking us up at the airport. They get a great review on Trip Advisor. $65 round trip private transfer. It's cheaper than the one the Royal Sands offers and it's private.

You can rent a car once you get to the resort, for a day or two. That is what we have done in the past.

and remember, almost everything is negotiable, even car rentals.

We are headed to the Royal Sands on 12/31 and paying cash. We're heard really great things about this resort and how clean it is. As a point of reference we're paying about $3100 for 10 days for a 2 bedroom. It does include airport transfers.

We are so excited and are taking an overnight trip down to Tulum. Can't wait to hear about your trip!

Thanks Melissa -

Your first of many notes will be Cancun Transfers, phone number, how you booked them and if you were satisfied :)

Enjoy!

It was $65 total RT not including tip. I booked right on line at Cancuntransfers.com . I paid ahead of time through their site as well. I'll let you know how it goes.

We are going to do an excursion down in the Tulum area with Edventures. I'll let you know how that goes as well. The downside to it is that it's a 2 hour ride to where we will snorkel and see the ruins.

Oh I love eating at Iguana Wanna. Hope it is still there next time we go.

Yes I want to know it all. We would love to do some excursions (I have heard of course of the Tulum area and Excaret (sp?). Since we are going in July I am worried about how well my dh will do in the heat (walking, no a/c perhaps in transportation, just some things to consider since he has heart problems) - would not want to be too far from civilization :( otherwise we will be spending a lot of time near the resort area and relax.

Please be careful with the heat. We did Chitchinza (sp?) and the heat was almost to much for me and we went in May. The ruins were amazing though.

If you can - go to Xcaret. It is truly one of the best times I have had on any cruise excursion, and I have been on a lot of cruises. Look up their website to see all of the amazing things they have to do there. I recommend the restaurant on the rocks that overlooks the dolphin encounter - I don't recall the name, but it was sooo good! Have a wonderful time!

My DD stayed at Royal Sands Cancun-very nice, great pool.

Well I am sitting here in the lobby of the Royal Sands after just checking out. We don't actually leave for another couple of hours, so I had some time to kill.

When we decided to come here, we really had no idea what to expect even after looking at tons of pictures. Still now, I don't think that you can really get a feel for this place through pictures.

First let me say that this is probably one of the cleanest resorts I have ever stayed in. The crews that work on keeping it clean are seen everywhere throughout the day. Only once did I ever see a piece of trash lying around and that is because I think it blew off of a balcony. Dh quickly picked it up out of the fountain and threw it away. Everything here is immaculate!

The pools are fabuolous and warm. They are heated. There is not too much beach left, but enough for 2 rows of lounge chairs. We had one yellow flag day and the rest were red at the ocean. We still swam on the red days. Some were a little worse than others, but its about par with Ocean City's waves so we were use to it. There are some rocks and the life guards will keep you away.

Here at the Sands we ate at La Veranda twice. They have outside and inside seating. The food was very good both times. We also got food from the Royal Express. They have "packages" if you will that you can order as well as a la carte. We got the bbq rib package. It came with a full rack, baked beans, huge salad, rolls, and brownies. We also got mashed potatoes and gravy, salsa, and a piece of strawberry cheesecake. It cost roughly around $36. It was delicious - all but the brownies.

We also travel to the Mayan one night for the Mexican buffet and show. The kids didn't make it for the show. It was a long day for them having fun at the pool and beach so they were tired. The food was good though! Our impression of the Mayan was that it looked very nice.

Last night we went down to the Islander for Pizza and Pasta night. They have a buffet set up for the pizza and salad and then you go to the chef and he will make you whatever pasta dish you want. I had something similar to shrimp scampi and it was wonderful!

The rest of the time we ate in our villa.

Well thats all for now. I have to go back up and finish packing. I'll write again soon.
