:guilty:

O.K. my 3 kids & I have full fledged colds, I was over mine & than we just kept passing it around, youngest was up with a 104 temp last night :cold: her nose is runny & she says her head hurts
(oldest had this Sun/Mon this week) & oldest/middle are on the downside of it, just stuffed up right now..

DH started coughing last, so I'm sure by the time we leave, he'll have it also.. I have a sore throat/stuffy nose/headache/chills..

What to do for plane ride?? (1st ever for my kids, so I don't want it to be a miserable experience) should I give them sudafed or benadryl? It's a 3 hour flight EARLY, we have to leave the hotel by 5:15 a.m., to get to the airport & not sure how much they will sleep or how well being in a hotel..

Any suggestions from any seasoned airplane travelers would be great..

I've been popping Vitamin C & Echinecea (sp?) Dh has been taking vitamin C & Cod Liver Oil pills..I've just been keeping the kids hydrated & giving them their daily multi-vitamin.

:confused3 Why me? Why now?? I have so much to do before we leave, pack, clean, rest..Guess I should get off the DIS (admitted addict  ) and try to do something!

I would take your youngest to the Dr. No one should run a 104 temp with just a cold. In fact, colds usually dont' have much fever at all.

I feel your pain, my dd5 woke up this morning w/a temp and sore throat. I made her stay home from school tody and scheduled a dr's appointment for this afternoon - I'm not taking any chances!!

I am not trying to sound mean or harsh, but if you all are sick you should not fly. You may make everyone else sick. Then no one would enjoy a vacation... People on the plane may not have any meds with them... If you are going to Disney more than likely almost everyone on that plane is going too. Call the airline and Disney to see what they can do for you.

Also, When my dd runs a temp that high I take her straight to the ER. A child can get dehyderated ( hope I spelled that right!) very quickly with a high temp. It can also cause brain damage.

I hope you all get to feeling better soon.

The good news is, that if you leave in two days you probably will be over the worst of it and you won't get sick at WDW. I got sick at WDW with nasty cold that struck on my BIRTHDAY no less! It lasted about 3 full days and I was much better on the 4th day.

I hope your DD's fever went down, if not, take her to a doctor and she should feel better soon.

Our doctor recommends that all of us take a decongestant when flying whether we have colds or not. He recommends it for children as well. He also recommends plenty of fluids and hard candy to keep your throat moist. I think you are doing all the right things by doing plenty of fluids and the Vitamin C. I agree that you should take your child with the fever to the doctor just to be sure it's not more than the flu. The Florida sunshine and heat should help with those stuffy heads and sinuses. Both DH and I have gone to Florida with colds/sinus infections which we came down with just days before our trip and it's amazing what the sunshine has done to help clear it up.

I like the nasal swabs the best. They are homeopathic and do not have any drug interactions or side affects. You can get the childrens Zicam as well. My ddturning4atWDW will be using them on the plan (JIC!) as will my dh and myself.

Not taking any chances here!!! :p

Zicam lessens the duration of a cold. I agree with another poster that you should bring your child to the dr. (or at least call them) for such a high fever. It can't hurt to get it taken care of NOW instead of suffering!!!

Personally, my dd is neurologically prone to seizures (not febrile from fevers but caused by certain viruses) and we have to be careful when she catches colds/viruses that could trigger them. She has in the past been hospitalized for three days for a virus that is nothing more than a mild irritation for other children! For fevers, she usually requires more than one medication (ie: tylenol AND motrin combination).

Hope you all feel better soon!!!! :flower: :grouphug:

Chip91, I hope you and your family are feeling better and are able to enjoy your vacation.

Chip91 - I hope you and your family gets feeling better. My DH woke up this morning totally congested so he went to the doctor. He has bronchitis and pneumonia and we fly out in 9 days. :sad2: The doctor gave him 2 shots and 5 different meds; he said it could last 2-3 weeks but since he caught it so early he should get to feeling better in a few days. I hope the later is the case and that DD and I don't get it!

Took my youngest in, double ear infection & throat infection..She will be fine to fly b/c she won't be contagious by Saturday (he gave me a double dosage of Zithromax, so it's 3 days instead of 5 days)..He just said lots of fluids, decongestant to fly & we should be fine..He also told me to give motrin before take-off incase there is still fluid in her ear, that can intensifiy with the pressure of take off I guess..

THANKS everyone, and to whomever said we should not fly, yes I do feel bad I would not want to get anyone else sick, but since Dr. ok'ed her to fly & my other 2 dd's already had their fevers this past Monday, I think I'm still going on vacation

One day of antibiotics and you are no longer contagious. And with a double ear infection, were never contagious to begin with. But I'd bring anitbacterial wipes just in case!

No you can't have my tickets sorry! I'm sick but I'm going..I went in & took the other kids to the DR., they are fine, they checked ears, lungs did strep tests all negative..I have a sinus infection, so along with my youngest am on a 3 day dosage of zithromax..THAT SAID, I'm going to SEE MICKEY!! Very soon & for the first time ever, so sorry stacy, I won't give up my tickets!! I will have a good time, even if a little under the weather, we'll just go at a slower pace!

PIXIE DUST dreams and wishes to all!

Have a great vacation!! I'm sure you will be fine to fly out. Had one kid with an ear infection and one with bronchitis the last time - gotta LOVE that Zithro!! Just take it easy - don't try to do everything this trip - one more excuse to plan more trips!!!

Sanibelover - yes I just told DH, we will take it easy & then we will just have to plan ANOTHER trip to the world ;)

I'm not TOO worried, actually just "traveling" tomorrow 3 hours to the airport, so we will rest/relax in hotel tomorrow night, then we fly out Sunday morning & again jsut rest/relax on Sunday..Chef Mickey's Sunday night, but that's all..Then to bed early for MAGIC KINGDOM :cool1: on Monday!!

I can't wait, I'm still in udder disbelief that I'm this close, this is a lifelong dream of mine, think I'm more exicted than my kids (even though I'm sick) although my youngest is doing much better after just 2 doses of Zithro..She smiled today & found her swimsuit & said Mom, I'm ready to go see Mickey now!

Thanks again everyone for the well wishes!

Wishing you all a great trip, and that everyone is feeling well and can enjoy it to the fullest!

littleprissboutique - I just wanted to reply about high fevers leading to brain damage. That's not necessarily so unless you're dealing with something like the Triple EEE illness from mosquitos and forms of meningitis. It's the infection that hurts the brain, not necessarily the fever itself, that's the body defense in fighting it off.

My son was 15 months old when he had a hight temp of 103.9 that shot up really quickly and had a febrile seizure, turned blue in my arms and stopped breathing for approximately 20 seconds or so but seemed like an hour. He did not suffer any damage to his brain at all. He runs high temps everytime he gets sick now, but he's always ok afterward.

To the OP, I'm glad you got treatment for you're child and everybody will be on the mend. Enjoy you're vacation!

you might want to check out--Airbourne--we used it last winter and i didn't get sick at all.... used it right before going to several figure skating competions where there were lots of people in a small area....recommended for plane rides.... :cool1: they sell this at Sam's Club now in the 3 pack. Have a great trip.... :cheer2:

I swear by Airborne; I used it last winter and didn't even get a small cold. My DD and I started using it last week when my husband got so sick, we're still okay (knock on wood). I haven't been to Sam's in a while, how much is it for the 3-pack? It's about $5 for one canister and I'll go through 1 about every other day.
