Leaving for College program with DD on the 4th!

Hey, I just checked the boards and was saddened to read about YesDear's DS. Very lucky, we need to be grateful that he wasn't hurt! People are crazy and luckily it was only the car.

Well, guess who just booked my next trip to DW!! Going with my 15 yr. old son to visit DD and of course, DW.(DisneyWorld, silly) Daughter is doing nicely, now that she has come to the realization that the roommate thing isn't going to change. She pretty much avoids hanging around the apartment. She found out why the roommate who slept in the same room with her had been slamming doors and wouldn't talk. After a couple days of this.... (not getting any explanation, I told her not to pursue it), this roommate told her that when DD came in from work at 12:45 am, it woke her up! (Maybe she would like DD to camp out on the porch.) She got over it, but so weird.

DD is signing up for different seminars, etc., and seems to like it. Some that really sounded interesting were already booked, though. Anyway, we will be there from July 30-Sept. 7. Anyone else going to be around? Would love to meet you there. We are booked at the All Star Music (Stayed there before) but I'm renting a car, so I wonder whether we should just stay somewhere cheap for 29.99 a night...... like HoJos.... and save some bucks. Any suggestions? Take Care, Marla

Marla, I am jealous. :) :) Glad to hear that your daughter is settling in. Roommates are just strange and hopefully your daughter will be able to avoid any problems.

Marla, you are staying for a whole month? I am assuming that you had daughter book your reservation with her CM discount? Other option is to have her get a Donald's Deals book at CoD and check out the rates of the hotels over by Downtown Disney, they offer some very good deals to CM's, too.

You're going for a whole month? Boy am I jealous! I know you will have a wonderful time. Just imagine how many times you can visit Property Control! :) Have fun!

Yeah, right..... wishful thinking! Let me try this again..... I will be there from 7/30 - 8/07 I goofed and wrote Sept.! Gee, that would have been fun. I would have rented space to sleep at Property Control! Right now we have reservations at All Star Music, but I am looking into some of the little joints along 192 and checking their rates. I am renting a car and to save 20 per day, maybe it isn't worth staying at a Disney Resort. We've been there.... it's fine, especially if you want to use the buses, but I can't decide. I am also looking into going over Labor Day Weekend. Then that's it for a while, as school starts and I can't take off. Anyone have any ideas of cheap but clean places to stay off property? (Just two of us going) Thought about staying near Vista Way, but don't know what is there. LMK if you have any ideas. By the way, I have come to the conclusion that the worst thing to do is go to an early entry park..... even early! Less crowded to go anywhere else, don't you agree?

DD went on the new ride at Epcot today..... open for cast members. She didn't think that it was so terrific. Said it reminded her of Star Tours but not as exciting..... sarcasm? Marla

I'm glad Marla's DD is settling in & that yesdear's DS is ok. I'd been worried about everyone! This was getting to be like a soap opera. :)

Priceline is great for Disney area hotels (offsite, of course). If you want any help with it, let me know! :)

What is COD and what kind's of stuff is at property control? I didn't know that families could go there or believe me I would've been in that tent! Can you have things shipped home?

If any of your 3 children are in the CP currently they can take family members into PC.

Marla, check out this site if you have not done so already for some special deals on hotel--

http://www.mousesavers.com/

I got a 2 room suite at the Doubletree right at Downtown Disney for $79 per night, doesn't include tax, but has microwave and mini fridge, helps save money.

I do have one there right now! WHere is PC located? WHat are the hours? Can you have stuffed shipped home?

Ask your child to go on the Cast portal and he can get you the current hours. They moved to a new location but I am pretty sure it is near the old one. It is behind MK. You can't have anything shipped from there. This is all the stuff that didn't sell in the parks for one reason or another. They also have stuff from the resorts.

Just hold on to your wallet because you will find lots of bargains. :) PC can be hazardous to your wallet.

MermaidsMom, PC is back by Disney University behind the MK. If your CP'er works in the MK, they'll know exactly where it is. Don't quote me on the hours, but they're something like 9:30am-4pm Mon-Sat. I don't think they ship anything though. But there is a UPS store over by Publix on International Drive near Chatham.

Mirmatt, can you get the All-Stars at the CM discount rate for your week?

Thanks so much. I will check it out when we're there later this month.

MermaidsMom, be sure to let us know after your trip what you thought of PC. Just be sure to leave plenty of room in your suitcase. :) :)

I will post when I get back about it. I have this problem though, with sales I will stand there forever trying to decide if I want something, then decide no, then later I will want it and it's too late!

At PC you have to go with the attitude of if I don't pick this up now I won't ever get it. Or you snooze you lose. :) PC can have lots of good things one time and slim pickings another time. The tshirts and sweatshirts are a really good buy.

I have had several conversations with DS since Sunday. That is why I said you have to love them. First I think he thinks I am angry at him. Not so. After getting the whole story, I do not think he made a bad decision, he just did not make the best one!

It appears there was a wreck coming out of LLB onto 535 and traffic was being rerouted. DS pulls up to make sure way is clear and the man behind him rear ends the car. He has a 91 Blazer with one of those folding spare tire racks on the back. DS gets out of car and looks at the back and a first it does not seem like any damage. Other man does not even get out of van he is driving. DS concerned with all the traffic he is holding up and the two other castmembers with him in the car. He was concerned they all work at same place and did not want them to get reprimanded for being late. So he gets back in car and leaves.

When he gets to work he sees damage and calls disney security and Orange County Sherriff. They say since he left the scene, there is nothing they can do. Who knows the man who hit him may think he did no damage.

I asked DS why he did not call work and tell them what happened at the scene. I bet they would have sent security to pick up other castmembers. Of course he did not know or have in his cell phone the number to call!

Through the miracle of technology, he has sent me digital videos of the car. It seems the spare was pushed into the tailgate damaging the panel and the lock for the glass upper door. It did not break the glass though.

DW and I are going down on Friday, and I can better asses the damage. Fortunately he and I have done some fairly major repairs to the car before.

Since DS has the tag # we are going to try to track down the man and see if he is honest and will report it. I hold no particular hope though.

I really hope DS does not think I am angry. We forget as older adults that life is a process. He now has a number for work and no one was hurt other than my wallet. I goes without saying it could be far worse.

I am proud that he cared enough about work and his fellow workers not to want them to get in trouble, but I told him that most employers are very understanding about things outside your control.
Particularly Disney. When he reported it when he got to work they were great to work with him.

Oh well, it is only metal

Thanks for all of your interest.

Mermaids Mom; have a blast at PC. Just remember you have to be 16 to get in so if you are going with younger ones they will not get in and CM must be with you! Take a spare suitcase not just room!!!

Okay, we are now on for Labor Day Weekend. Got a great deal from Michigan for 151.50. Then, it is back to work. Grandma(my mom) wanted to visit DGD(new abbreviation?)

JK, For the first week in Aug., 7 of the 8 nights are booked at All Star (I did it in May) When I added the extra day..... they were booked and had nothing available. Soooooo, I made a Reservation at a HOJO near Old Town in Kissimmee. About 20.00 cheaper per night and am thinking whether it is worth saving the loot and just staying there the entire time. Since I rent a car to run around, I just wondered whether the extra cost is worth staying at All Star.

I think that I am hyperventilating every time the name Property Control comes up. Told DD to get ready and make sure that they've got some new stuff. I could go there daily...... then I think, how much Disney Stuff do I need????? Then I answer.......
Alot? It really is addictive.
Anyone give blood at Disney? DD is thinking about doing it tomorrow since they have a blood drive at the Grand FL. She has never done this before.

Boy, did I take a spill today. Went to the Ann Arbor Art Fair...... Huge Fair on the University Of Michigan Campus. Wasn't careful and missed the curb...... foot got caught and down I went ...... so embarrassing...... and so sore. Knees got messed up so I need time to heal so I can walk (carefully) around PC! By the way, guys, besides the Property Control, I also love checking out the Character Warehouse Stores. You, too? Anyone into the pin collecting? DD is buying some when they come out....... oohh, not such a cheap hobby, but fun! Hey Yesdear..... the kids can be so sensitive sometimes.... thinking you are mad when you are just explaining..... Take care, all, Marla

Marla, sorry to hear about your spill. Hope you recover quickly.

My daughter gave blood every time she was eligible. It wasn't a problem and the incentive of a Disney pin was enough to get my daughter over her fear of needles. :)

When she started the CP she wanted no parts of pin trading. I wish you could see the number of pins she has now. The one trip I went down to visit her we went to the parks. Every two feet we had to stop while she traded. I kid her to this day about Pardon me, could I see your pins.

She went to several of the special pin trading events and I bought a lot of the Disney Store pins at Christmas that were reduced and she traded those.

I would encourage your daughter to pin trade. My daughter got to meet a lot of really nice people that way.

Marla, I did that exact same thing right in front of my house yesterday except I don't even have the curb excuse! My sandal slipped out from under my heel and down I went. It won't keep me away from PC though! I am counting the days. I saw a deal on "hotelmartusa.com" for the Renaissance Worldgate during the dates you will be there for $ 49 per night. THe beauty of that is you could join the Marriott Rewards program and start building points/credit in their program for a cheap price. I have never stayed there but it's very tempting. Most of the cheaper chain hotels don't have a program to join that can build points towards free stays or perks.
