Friends of ours are at Disney now. They did not buy trip insurance. His grandfather was in an accident and probably will not survive surgery tonight. Will they lose everything if they check out early? They're trying to decide if they should all come home or if she should stay with the kids. She wants to go home but he's so upset he's fixated on not upsetting the kids (not exactly in the right frame of mind if you know what I mean).

They should be able to check out with no problems. Not sure how they would handle the tickets. They could always add non expiration to the tickets.

Disney is very understanding with family emergencies. They should check with the resort ASAP and find out their options.

1) Anyone can checkout early, without a reason.
2) They will not be charged for the hotel nights they don't use.
3) They can usually get DDP refunded for those nights not used.
4) But, admission tickets are non-refundable.

NOTE: The lack of charges for the unused room nights does not apply to nights paid with DVC points. For these, the person must call and try to talk Member Services into a credit. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. If it doesn't work, they are "out" the points for the unused nights.

I can attest to Disney being great in emergency situations. One day before we were to check in at CR in October '05, my Dad passed away unexpectedly. My second call was to Sue Ellen with Dreams Unlimited. She managed to get everything (including MNSSHP tickets) refunded and cancelled. We rebooked for November of that same year. They did npt have to refund the party tickets but I guess they could tell we were regular visitors and I did truly appreciate it. I'm sorry for your friends, that is terrible to get a phone call like that while far away. Prayers to them.

They ended up leaving. I'm not sure what happened - from what you've all said, it should be okay. They were so worried b/c it was a package (and they were worried about what their boys would do).

Thanks again!
