Leave room tips

We leave $1 per person plus 1$ and place it on the pillow.

I always make sure my room is straightened up every morning before I leave anyway. No way do I want housekeeping to walk into a cluttered room.:rotfl: I wrap the used towels, washcloths, and mat into a ball, then wrap them in a clean towel, place them in the sink, and put the tip envelope right on top of them. That way there is no way the housekeeper can not know the money is for them. The funny thing is, one trip I came back to the room, to find the towels gone, but the tip envelope sitting on the back of the commode. She had apparently found it, put it down for a minute to clean the bathroom, then walked out and forgot it.

I tidy up every morning as well. I just can't seem to leave the beds messy or the towels alone.:lmao: Even though I don't know the mousekeepers, I would be mortified to have them walk into our room and it be messy. We are tidy people anyway so it really doesn't take long to do. I fold the sheets down half way and smooth the bed out, place the pillows accordingly and I fold all the towels and leave them on the bathtub. They are stacked in size order. Man I have a problem.:rotfl:

Is a dollar or two a day reasonable or is that too little? I don't travel much :)

My opinion is that it is fine. There are lots of folks who do not even leave a few dollars so I bet your mousekeeper would appreciate it. I read on some other threads where many feel that the quality of cleaning has gone down at Dinsey resorts, but I have been fortunate to have had excellent service.

Is it expected to tip the housekeeping services? I am new to planning a Disney trip and to the DIS boards. I've read about the envelopes etc. but didn't know if it was a widely expected thing that most people do.

I always use the "room was serviced by" tent and place the money inside. It is always taken. We tip $4 a day for 2 A and a toddler and I straighten the room upon leaving. Funny thing happened last trip. I did not have any ones on the last day since I did laundry the night before. I left $4 in quarters, again inside the tent, and it was gone. I felt bad that she had to carry it around but it still spends.

Agree. Well, except since I stay alone I think $1 per night is chintzy for me - but I found (as recently as this week) that bills left on the bed ARE understood to be for the housekeeper. Money's always gone when I get back to the room :)

In general, we always tip housekeeping no matter where we are staying. It's the same as tipping your server at a restaurant. That having been said, whether or not you tip anyone who has performed a service for you is entirely at your discretion. I'm sure that not everyone tips, so do what you think is right.

Same here except I usually leave the money on the vanity next to the sink. Mine has also always been taken no matter where we are.:flower3:

This is what we do too. They take it every time. I put it right in the middle of the vanity, so it's obvious that it's for them. We usually tip $2 per person, per night.

I left a small white envelope with the word "Mousekeeper" on front on the table each morning before we left. I would put small comments on reverse each day, like,...... have a magical day, thanks for taking care of us, Some pixie dust for YOU, thanks for spreading the magic etc.....
It is typically 1-2 per person per day. If super messy I'd leave the 2 but if not $1 a person, per day is fine. I think they appreciate anything they get.
Our Mousekeeper, Marta, bldg 14 POR was very very sweet and made amazing towel animals for us each day. What a lovely woman and was even nice enough to check when we stayed late one morning as ds was too tired to get out of bed...she noticed our change of pattern and asked if there was anything she could do...now thats making it feel like "home"....Only Disney style! ;)

We stayed 12 days and did have another "keeper" for two days, also good service but no animals.......

I vacation solo. I usually tidy up my room simply because I can't stand the thought that a stranger has to move around a lot of my personal things. I make sure to put my PJ's somewhere so mousekeeping doesn't do that. I tip 2 dollars a day, and I tuck it in an envelope, marked "Mousekeeping".
I tuck it into the edge of the mirror over the bathroom sink. It was always taken.

I have always left the tip for housekeeping under the pillow. Sometimes I'll try to leave it so the money is sticking out from under the pillow, and is thus clearly visable. I can't help but notice that no one has mentioned that option.

No, it is not the same as tipping in a restaurant. Housekeepers are paid a wage, at least minimum wage. Servers are paid less than half of the minimum wage. Servers depend on tips to raise their income above minimum wage.

Tipping is a nice gift to those who make at least minimum wage, don't get me wrong. I do tip mousekeepers, $5 a day for the 4 of us, and I leave it under the card with their name on it, in area tidied up so it is not questionable if it is for them. I tip because I am picky and leave a list of requests each morning, and, in general, get what I ask for.

How much do you leave??
I'll be staying alone next week and thought I would leave $2 a day
It does seem kind of chintzy but I will be there for 9 nights and will be leaving $20 for the whole trip.
Thanks

Technically Mousekeeping is not a tipped position. Tipping is not expected as it would be at a restaurant. Though it is not a tipped position, many of the Mousekeepers will accept the tips you leave, others will not. Just as it is your personal preference to tip, it is theirs whether or not they want to accept it. I think a lot of people feel they MUST tip Mousekeeping. Knowing that the option is open, as no tip is expected is good to know. That being said I have tipped but on the days I didn't I didn't worry about it and if a Mousekeeper didn't take the tip, I didn't search them out to make sure that they got it.

Twice at the CR my husband and son handed the maid the money and she refused. :confused3 My son is 16, do they have a policy not to take from kids, though he is kind of big.

I always leave our tip in an envelope that DD has decorated with stickers on the pillow. We tip 1.00 per person per day.

When I went solo, I tipped 2.00 a day.

I always tidy our room because I would be embarrassed to leave it for someone else to do and I want to know where it is if I want it again. Before we leave I pick up all of the dirty towels and washcloths and put them on the vanity/sink area. I figure there are enough people that don't appreciate or understand how hard a housekeeping job is so I figure I want to be one less person in that group. For me it is also showing them respect to not have to pick up dirty wet towels from the floor and to not have to wring out the wash cloths my kids leave in a ball in the shower. Anyway, I put them in a pile on the vanity it is easy to pick them up and throw them in the laundry. My tip envelope goes on top of that. I always print a Mousekeeping one and if we need extra towels or anything I will write that on the back of the envie. I have never had a tip left behind.
