Leave me alone!

Oh but they won't and they will continue to impose THEIR values upon us until we are all stripped of our right to make our own decisions. It's happening to everything! I, personally, despise most grassroots organizations because of this.

Only in Cincinnati. I used to live there. Before you know it they will outlaw romantic interludes between couples there. Oh but they aren't doing a thing to get rid of prostitution on Vine St. That Mariott they're talking about is a nice hotel in yuppieville.

My beliefs....said it 20yrs ago, btw...;)

As we look at the Middle East and believe that we are "ahead of them", I think we are behind them. So far the 'control freaks' have not proven me wrong. Freedoms are being taken away little by little.

I agree. And I can parent my own kids without any "help" from these grass roots organizations, too. Next they'll be petitioning to have the porn channels banned from home cable, too. Because after all, kids can access them at home with a push of a button, too. :furious:

How did you vote in the last few elections? Perhaps you didn't read the fine print. We're supposed to be happy to have others "protect" us even if it means losing a few rights along the way. Get with the program people! ;)

Hotel room pay-per-view offerings have become more graphic in recent years, showing close-ups of all manner of sex acts, Burress says.
How do they know it's becoming more graphic. Obviously they're ordering the porn. Either that or they're making it up. :rotfl: If they're so concerned maybe they should keep a better eye on their children rather than worrying about what other adults are doing.

I think they should ban rice krispie treats next. After all, I have no free will and the mere fact that they manufactor these evil things means I MUST eat an entire box in 2 days. ::yes:: Perhaps someone should start a grassroots movement. It won't be me, though...I am too busy eating these little golden squares of goodness until they are finally banned for my own good!

This is so true of so many issues. I don't like it, the Bible says it's wrong, so I will make everyone stop doing it. Why can't they just not do it themselves and let everyone else decide for themselves? It is so scary when stuff like this happens, what will they hate next?

The fact that they use the "kids might see it" excuse just ticks me off. Yeah, most people leave their children alone in a hotel room.

EXACTLY- the people that usually try and tell US what we can and can not do- or what is wrong or right are the ones we need to keep our eye on-- and do a bit of checking into their "closets"! :furious:

And they don't only attack things like porn, etc. they also attack things that they know nothing about personally. About 2 years ago they tried to have Enbrel removed from the pharmacies. Apparently one of them got ahold of the insert that goes with the med that details the POSSIBLE side effects of the drug (increased risk of cancer, death due to infection, it's not nice stuff but it's just a possibility). Well after reading this they freaked out and figured that those of us ON the medication must be illiterate and did not read the insert and or DR. did not tell us of the potential side effects because if any of the above had happened then there is no way we would be taking the drug.
I actually wrote them a letter because I got so angry that they were trying to get the FDA to pull my miracle drug. Before I started on this med I had to actually sit with my Dr. and watch a video about it. I read all of the materials related to it and knew the risks. But the benefits (for me) outweighed the risks. But these grassroots people seem to think we are all just stupid or something and that somehow they know ALL and are better suited to make my decisions for me.
NOT.
If people would stop and look around they'll see that we are much less free now than we were years ago and it's not just due to terrorists.

Stay out of my bedroom. Unless it's child porn, it's done by consenting adults who in most cases are making a tidy living in the porn industry.

Who is this coalition to impose their values on adults? Do they think we are too stupid to make up our own minds on what we choose to view and not to view? If they are worried about children seeing porn, wouldn't it be more appropriate to start a campaign against children being unattended in hotel rooms? And for the record, the pay channels can be "turned off" by request in any room of any hotel that offers them.

For the record, I did not vote for the current administration.

And for the record, Al Gore's wife Tipper led the PMRC charge to demand music "Stickered." The difference was that they weren't saying it shouldn't be available, just that there should be a way of informing parents that there was "objectionable" content--"objectionable" being all too subjective IMHO.

I didn't read the whole thing...I stopped at Attorney General John Aschcroft...um the date on the article is 2002. So maybe that one died right where it was. Is there any updated information on that to show that they were successful in their bid to rid the hotels of porn?

I wish the Powers that Be (currently, the GOP) would live up to their mantra and get the government out of private citizens' lives.

Anne -

I couldn't agree with you more, and I too did not vote for the current administration. I'm counting down the days until the Bush administration is gone.

I am so tired of the morality police. I have my set of morals and values, but it's not my place to force those onto others. I'm not into pornagraphy, but if there are two consenting adults, and that's what they enjoy, I say live and let live.

Child porn is illegal and it should be. Those children are victims of predators.

WHY CAN'T THESE PEOPLE STAY OUT OF MY LIFE!? I AM AN ADULT AND MAKE MY OWN DECISIONS!

What is this country coming to? Mind your OWN bees wax! :furious:

I agree with you 100%.

I dont need anyone telling me what I can and cant do - I CAN make decisions, believe it or not.

Im a smoker, too - you can imagine how angry these subjects make me. pirate:

Just do what many other palces are doing. Provide DVD players and let people bring and play whatever they want. Then nobody can be accused of distributing porn, especially to children not old enough to be legally watching it.

From the article:
Meanwhile, the Omni hotel chain — which voluntarily removed adult movies two years ago — reports that it has lost revenue, but "we have had over 50,000 messages of support," says spokeswoman Kim Blackmon. One traveling businessman wrote: "Thanks for taking away the temptation."

So OMNI has lost reveue, but is happy to get 50,000 "pats on the back". Do they have stockholders? I wonder how they feel about that?

A similar thing happened at a video store I used to work at. The store had a small "adult room". No in store viewing booths or anything, and it was a large, regular video store. Basically the adult room looked just like the rest of the store, only it was adult product, and you had to show your DL to enter. You took the videos home to view like any other VHS or DVD. Let's also remember that many folks would come in and get regular family movies and "mom & dad" would pick out an adult movie for their private viewing, so there were cross over rentals.

Well, a large nearby church contacted the owner, and gave him a hellfire and brimstone earful, and said that everyone at the church would be regular customers if he would take out the adult room (it was generating $7K gross per month at the time). So, against the better judgement of all his employees, the owner took out the adult room. gross revenue dropped $9K per moth, from the loss of the adult movie rentals AND the crossover family rentals. We had NO new customers from the church, and basically the business was losing $$ every month. After a year, it was re-open the adult room or close the doors (after already costing several employees their jobs because they were no longer able to pay them). Of course, during that year, the adult customer base also went elsewhere to find their desired product. Many have not returned, and the store is still struggling. If a church contacts you and makes a promse that their "members will trade there if...." tell them to put that promise, and the financial amount they will spend, in writing.
