I have 2 15 lb dogs. I would love to get leather furniture but don't know how it will be with the
Anyone have dogs and leather??? Thanks. dogs. Will their nails scratch the leather. They are only on the furniture when we are home, are not allowed to roam the house when we are not.

We have had leather furniture in our family room for the last 5 years and have had a 10 lb dog for the last 3 years-in our experience, the dog has not had any effect on the couch-nails havent scratched it even when she is playing on it and any substances just wipe off.

My 25 pound dog loves my leather sofa and love seat. If you keep the nails trimmed you should have no problem. Leather is very tough and durable. And comfortable.

Added: And when she hops up with dirty feet--no stains. Everything wipes off!

We had a 40lb dog and no problems with the leather. We now have two Bostons (25ish lbs) no problems with then so far either.

Three fat yappy dogs (chi-mix, shi-tzu, rat terrier) and we love our leather couches! They have held up great. Be sure to get real leather though. Not sure how that vinyl some stores try to sell you as leather holds up.

No experience really, but while researching to buy recently, reviews and the salesmen alike said leather is the toughest material and the best wear for kids and dogs. So for us it will be leather!

Allison - I didn't realize you did not have the Corgi anymore. I remember when you were having trouble with him. Our Corgi found his new forever home in September of last year. Corgi's and young kids to not mix unless the kids are first!! Your Boston's are adorable. How is it having two dogs? We have an 8 year old hound and would like to adopt another younger (2-4ish) dog but I am doubtful about having two dogs.

On topic - We don't have leather but DH would LOVE to have leather. Can't let him see this thread. I told him with dogs and kids leather was just not the right thing to have. I think my winning card are the cats, they will total it.

Our leather furniture has been a lifesaver for us. We've never had a tear or puncture due to the dogs nails with the leather.:thumbsup2

At one time we had 3 dogs who all weighed over 60 pds who loved laying with us in the family room. Until we bought leather furnitute we ended up replacing or reupholstering our couches and chairs.

We have one cat and one 22 pound dog. We ONLY buy leather furnutire because they have never been able to wreck it and it doesn't collect pet hair. We've had nothing but leather for years and we'll never go back.

We have an 80-pound lab and a 22-pound cocker spaniel that think our couches belong to them. They're nubuck leather, and we haven't had any issues. They were purchased in 2003 and still look brand new, which is more than I could ever say at this point with any of our previous furniture purchases.

I have to agree with this. We've had our leather couches for 2-1/2 years now and it still looks brand new. It's been scratched, spilled on, vomited and peed on, but you'd never know it. We clean it up with leather cleaner and it's good as new. I can't believe I never considered leather before! It's so much easier to maintain than fabric.:thumbsup2

We bought leather BECAUSE of the dogs. They already ruined a microfiber couch.

You need to look for a higher quality, thick leather. Not that buttery soft leather that you can scratch with your fingernail. We bought Natuzzi brand - sold at dept stores, but we found it at Costco a few years ago. It's the best decision we've made, seriously. SO easy to clean, nothing stains, it's firm enough to handle the jumping they do, one of them pukes and I just wipe it up. The dog hair doesn't have anything to get imbedded in. It's been great for my allergies to just vacuum it up.

Sorta like why parents want leather in their car - it's much easier to clean and take care of :thumbsup2

We've got leather because of the dogs too. It is so easy to clean. We haven't had any mishaps with their nails.

Another dog owner and leather lover here. No nail, odor, stain or hair issues with leather furniture. We've never had a tear in the leather, and our dog jumps on and off the couches all day long. We originally got leather when our kids were born, because we wouldn't have to worry about stains/spills, and found out it's also perfect if you have a dog. My sister recently saw the light and bought leather furniture after spending tons of money reupholstering and steam-cleaning her fabric furniture over the years because of her dogs. Go for the leather!

Yep, my dog is about 25 lbs and there is not a mark on the leather. She is up on the couch all the time, napping and playing. We keep her nails trimmed and the leather is in great condition! Plus it's awesome that the leather never absorbs her accidents (she's a puppy) and there are never any stains! Our leather couch isn't even high-end either, it's an IKEA Ektorp sofa.

Oh you ppl make me want a leather sofa:sad1:

I have sat on a couple on stores and I KNOW why ppl love them, and while my sofa is beyond shot, how the heck do i afford a leather sofa?!

I don't think they are that expensive :confused3 We paid $700 for our couch and $600 for the loveseat through Costco (Natuzzi brand). Sams has some great prices too. We spent $800 on a microfiber sofa prior...

This set is $850 through Sams

I got our current set: 2 recliners, and a couch that reclines at both ends all for $250 at the Salvation Army. They are beautiful. They are a nice warm beige and I think they're only two years old. We get compliments on them all the time and everyone loves sitting in them too. There are no scratches, fading or tears. They pretty much looked like brand new when I bought them. When I walked into the store, they had just been dropped off and hadn't even been priced yet! :goodvibes
