Ok, so we're trying to teach my 15 month old niece to say "Pooh" and "Mickey Mouse" before we leave on our trip in a little over a month and a half. We've managed to teach her "Pooh" so far, but the only problem is, she'll say it for just about any character. We wouldn't be upset if she called all the characters at Disney World "Pooh" (we think it would actually be quite funny) although Mickey might be ;)
Does anyone have an ideas on how to convince her that only Winni the Pooh is "Pooh"?

Try holding up pictures of the characters. Also practice with that on the plane ride there (if you are going on a plane). This way when she knows what the character looks like, she can figure out the name.

I think that "Mickey Mouse" may be quite a stretch for so young a child-- that's a LOT of syllables and they're tricky ones.

Let her call all the characters "Pooh." Everyone will get a kick out of it and she'll be a huge hit :)

My 16 month old presently taps his head to "think, think, think" whenever he sees tigger or pooh- it's THE most adorable thing on earth (I am soooo waiting to show my sister as she's a dis-holic and it's her wedding we're traveling for)

I think they little mispronounciations are so cute! My daughter used to say "I love Sweeping Booty and Prince Pull-up" and I would fall out every time. I was a little sad when she learned to say their names the right way.

I think calling all the characters Pooh is cute! Good luck!

Yeah, we figured Mickey Mouse was too hard, so we're trying to get her to say "Mouse" but now whenever my sister shows her a picture of any character, she points and says "Pooh". It's adorable, and actually really funny. They were reading a Winni the Pooh book the other day and she pointed at Rabbit and said "Pooh". My sister and I couldn't stop laughing, and of course she thought "YAY I made them laugh" so she continued to say "Pooh" over and over.

Thanks for all the advice. I definitely think we'll just let her stick with calling everyone "Pooh". If she picks up a few more words before our trip, that's fine, but we definitely won't push her.

DD 2.5 has some speech delay..So, it's Mimi Mow..Im finding that just getting her Disneytized, familiar with the characters, will make for a better trip.:wizard:

To the OP, LOVE this topic, so cute! We are also trying to teach my kids to say Pooh for our trip, they'll be 17 months for our October trip. So far, the recognize the word Pooh, but that's about it.

I'm sure your daughter will be a riot and so adorable for the characters to interact with. Have fun!

Thanks. My niece will turn 17 months while we're there. While she lives with my parents and sister, I'm away at college and haven't seen her in two weeks :(
But I talked to her on the phone this morning and she called me "Pooh". Well, more specifically she said "Bye Pooh". :rotfl:

I'm sure your twins will love Disney too.

Good Luck...my ds turned 2yo while we were at Disney and didn't say ANY of the character's names until 2 mo after we came home!

And I worked REALLY hard on Mickey!

When he finally said Mickey he called him Bickey! That lasted for about 3 mo or so and now he calls him Mickey. :)

Our dd, then 18 months with very few words, took a liking to Goofy and that was her word for the trip (sort of came out as gahoofy).
As cute as anything.
She managed a few other characters but we returned when she was 22 months and had the full disney vocabulary!!!!

When my youngest was just learning to speak, she had one very particular compliment: the word "Gaa."

Only Barney and one of our (twin) babysitters was ever referred to as Gaa. Not me, not my husband, not her brother or sister. Only Barney on TV and Janet in real life :)

My grandson is 2 today and I would be thrilled if he could say any of the characters. He is a true Disneyholic as we watch the Disney Channel from 9 to 1 everyday and he does the think think think head tap with Pooh, imitates the Doodlebops dance and all the hand movements, and does the clap, clap with the Little Einsteins. He just doesn't talk yet. At least he will know them all when we get to Disney with him someday. My DD won't let me take him or his sister until she can go too.
