My 8 year old wants to learn as much about the history of the Dis Magic while on board as part of her "away from school assignment". ..Sshe has to do a presentation after returning to school. Any suggestions/ tips for her?
Hey, enjoyable assignment! Tell your DD to go to the Navigator series Making the Disney Magic. There is a movie showing how the Magic was built. We were able to tape the movie just by putting the camera on the table and letting it go. DD will get a lot of info from that. The Officers have a Q & A after the movie. There is also a tour of the different passenger areas of the ship on Sail Away Day (check your Navigator). This might be a bit hard since it's your first day.

We sailed this past May (7-day Eastern) and were booked in a Cat. 2 suite. As a gift from our Concierge Team we received a book entitled Disney Magic ~ The Launching of a Dream by John Hemingway. It details the dream of building the Magic along with never-before-seen images. I did a search at Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com but did not come up with anything. I do not know if this book is available for purchase or not. Perhaps you can call Disney to inquire. HTH
I'm sure if you talked to some of the ships Officers that they would be glad to do an interview with your daughter. Maybe even get a behind the scenes tour.
well, there is a poster I have from the ship, and it mentions that the St. Louis Arch is 630 feet, and the Eiffel Tower is 986 feet, and that the Disney Magic is 964 feet long...
The bow section of Disney Magic was launched and tugged 100 miles up the east coast of Italy this week to be joined with its stern outside of Venice. The sections of the ship were built simultaneously at Fincantieri yards in Ancona and Marghera in eight months' time.
"The construction of the hull in two different yards is one example of the many innovations which we are introducing to the cruise industry through the launch of the Disney Magic," said Disney Cruise Line President Arthur Rodney.
This process has previously been used in building tankers and aircraft carriers, but this is reportedly the first time it has been applied to cruise ship construction.
The bow was launched from its building berth in the Ancona Shipyard on April 12, accompanied by three oceangoing barges, and then embarked on a 42-hour transport to Marghera.
Through the use of underwater cameras and mechanical guides, the bow was methodically guided in and the two sections were welded together to form the entire hull of the ship. Disney Magic is scheduled to enter service next March.
