Does anyone have this game system? I'm considering it for my 6 year old daughter. She can read very well and loves learning. I think she'd like the explorer, but I don't know if she's to old for it. She's in 1st grade but more at a 3rd grade level. Is she to old? Or is there something better?

Also does anyone know if there are any upcoming sales on this? Would love to keep it under $50 if possible.

Thanks so much!

I'd say she's probably too old. I have a six year old boy in first grade. We have an old Leapster that his 4 year old brother is now using. My older son hasn't touched the thing in over a year. He has a Nintendo DS, and plays on that. There are reading/learning/educational games for the DS too. They are more appropriate for school aged kids.

I think she is too old for it. We got DGS one for his 4th birthday last month because he was driving the teen boys crazy wanting their DS's. Guess what, he still is doing that and not playing his!!! WE have all preschool games and there are k-1or2 games but a 3rd grade leve child would not be chalenged much.

I would buy a DS if you want to get a game system for her.

She's cutting it close to being "too old". My daughter who is 7.5 years old uses it occasionally but she is on the cusp of moving to a nintendo ds (weird thing is though she hasn't asked me for that game system).

I do notice the boys moved into the nintendo ds systems alot sooner than the girls have.

The Explorer will play Didj games (which go up to about the 5th grade level). Since Didj is discontinued, the games are pretty cheap through Amazon or Ebay.
