Le Cellier... NOt that great!

Le Cellier is one of our favorites. We're pretty adventurous, but we like our steak, too. :) That said, I couldn't get a reservation this trip, so we're eating at Yachtsman's Steakhouse instead.

I think part of the reason LC is so difficult to get reservations for is a reason I seldom see mentioned: It's a really small restaurant! There are not too many tables for just two people, either. I frequently can find adr's for 3 people or more when I cannot find any for just two.

We mostly try to get in because we love the appetizer sampler and the pretzel bread. :)

Don't forget le Cellier used to be a 2TS credit (signature) restaurants. It became only 1TS credit about 6 (or 7)? years ago. right around the time Coral Reef changed for 2 to 1 credit.

Le Cellier continues to be almost impossible to get reservations at but I just don't see why? It's good but it's just NOT that great in my book? I think an internet hysteria or something is responsible?:lmao: Seriously though I just don't get why this restaurant gets booked up so fast???:confused3:banana:

I have to say I am with you. I ate here 3 years ago and HATED it! I tried the cheese soup everyone raves about and it was terrible. We havent tried it again lately.

My DH loves le Cellier. I am not a foodie, so I just eat. So, I like le Cellier, but I also like hot dogs if YKWIM.

We just got back form WDW yesterday, and while I had tried to get ADR's for le Cellier, no joy. But on Thursday for fun, I checked on line, and got an ADR for the next day.

So, call when you are there......there were empty tables.

Meh. I'm not into Le Cellier and I have never understood the hype, even before the DDP. I think it's popular because it's a "safe" meal for "meat and potatoes" eaters in the World Showcase.

I'm not going to say don't go to Le'Cellier, but I will say, go there with realistic expectations. This place is not fantastic, it is not great, it is not spectacular; it is good, perhaps a little better than average at worst(IMHO). Le'Cellier is Outback Steakhouse quality, it is not the same quality of cuts found at a Ruth Chris, Mortons, or even Shula's for that matter.

If you are on the dining plan then this place if you base value on the price of the menu, Le'Cellier is among the best deals going, at least until it becomes a signature restaurant. Based on all the hype here on the DIS and a few other forums, I was expecting a melt in your mouth, earth shattering, life changing, time stands still, and darn near orgasmic experience.... It failed to come close(again based on the hype).

The hype of the Mushroom fillet bewilders me; an average piece of beef slapped on a plate runneth over with a mushroom sauce and slapped on what they are calling risotto, just failed to cause me to sit back and say wow, thank you, may I have another....

I guess I'm just spoiled. We have some incredible steakhouses here in N.E. Ohio (yes Cleveland does have a few nice things going for it, LOL) and I highly doubt Le'Cellier would be able to stand on it's own in this area without an amusement park to sustain it. If I were paying OOP for Le'Cellier, I'd pass and go to at least 3 other 1ts restaurants that I believe serve a better steak.

Don't get me wrong, it's good, just not great... This is only my opinion based on my own personal experiences. Not attacking those who love this place, I just find it not to meet the hype and euphoria.. Time will tell once it is a signature if they can stand on quality or if it was merely a product of the DDP and a 1TS restaurant that offered value. My guess is it will be the later and have a big dropoff.

We are over LC. There are other restaurants that are much better...Il Mulino, Sanaa, Jiko, and a great place at Hilton Bonnet Creet, La Luce.

:rotfl:

Another dining thread where folks are more or less split on the quality of the food! I haven't been on the DISboards as long as some, but I have yet to find one restaraunt at Disney that is loved by all - maybe V&A's but them some will complain about the price point.

This is another reason why I love Disney - there is something for everyone and if LeCellier isn't your cup of tea (soup) well there are about hundred other restraunts to try.

I would hope many would take people's advice on here about food (and accomodations) with a grain of salt - lots of opinions BUT until you try something out for yourself, you may never know how a particular restaraunt or resort meets your needs.

Just came back from WDW and was able to eat at Le Cellier (my nephew wanted to try it). Our meal was very good and our waitress was fantastic, but I agree that it is not stellar. It reminds me of people waiting 1 and a half to two hours to get into Olive Garden or Cheesecake Factory. Just don't get it.

We are trying Le Cellier for the first time in may, for lunch...
I never really bothered trying to get a ressie, since it is so popular.
However, when searching the dining website, I saw a lunch ressie, so I snagged it. I am looking forward to trying it, and reviewing it! :goodvibes

We've dined there 3 times, twice for dinner and once for lunch. Each time it was just "okay." Certainly not worth the hype it gets on these boards. I think the popularity is related to 2 things. First, it is the only place to really get a "meat and potatoes" meal in the World Showcase. Some people are not daring eaters and even Rose and Crown is a little too ethnic for them. Second, it is the only steakhouse that you can use 1 credit on the dining plan for. Yachtsman (which is way, way better) is 2 credits. Shulas, which is even better, does not even take the dining plan.

Respectfully, that's inaccurate.
The dining plan has only been in existence for six years - okay, six years and just under a month. If Le Cellier was ever two credits, it was for a very brief time - less than eight months. Yes, I'm sure. It was one credit when I ate there in August 2005.

Count me among those that really enjoy LC:goodvibes Looking forward to my mushroom filet and Cheese soup in a week! I had no problem getting my reservation when the window opened up....perhaps that is the trick...you have to reserve right at your window :confused3
In any event, I am happy I was able to get into this place one more time before it becomes 2 TS credits.....don't know if I'd be willing to part with that when there are so many good 2 TS options like dinner shows/unique restaraunts like JIKO....I've yet to try JIKO, Btw....but would love to one day!
I love a steak and LC puts out a nice one!

My thoughts exactly!! Everyone is going to have their own opinion. Some will love it and others just won't. Disney has something for everyone! Certainly though people should go and decide for themselves what works for them. Personally, my family loves  LeCellier but not everyone has to...more room for us!! :rotfl:

Just got back-ate at LeCellier for Lunch.

It was delicious & fantastic and every other adjective out there!!

Dh and I both got Cheddar Cheese Soup and the cheeseburger.
Dh is STILL talking about his burger, soup and the pretzel bread. Our waiter Matt was among the best we had all week.

I'm pretty critical when it comes to restaurants, and I was more than ready to find that Le Cellier is overhyped, but was pleasantly surprised to have nothing but good experiences and fantastic meals there.

We went for the first time during our February 2010 visit. During our trip in December 2010, we actually went twice. (We ended up with New Year's Eve reservations as well as Candlelight Processional dinner package reservations earlier in the trip, and didn't want to drop either, for various reasons.)

We have never had a bad meal there. My only complaint would be the prices, but I would prefer to pay a lot for a good meal, than only slightly less for a substandard meal.

The vaunted cheddar cheese soup was good, but much too rich for me. The mushroom filet was fantastic, though.

nope. both coral Reef and Le Cellier were 2 credit restaurants. I can't tell you when they switched, but it was our first time using the DDP, it was free dining, we stayed at CSR in Sept. (hubby is sleeping, so I can't ask him right now!)
but the disboards were ALL abuzz! about it. everyone was so excited. I called down to Nebo, "guess what 2 restaurants are now only 1 credit each? "

can anyone back me up? please don't make me wake Nebo, as this is day 6 of us quitting smoking, and he'll kill me!!!:rotfl:)

Our first time at Le Cellier I wasnt impressed, I thought my steak chewy.. My DS loved it so I tried it again and got the filet, and loved it and ever since then we make it an annual thing. Now when they change to 2TS I will try to go for lunch if they take the filet off the lunch menu, I will not be returning..and I dont think its worth 2 TS credits..especially when we pay for the DDP
