My husband always get a larger cut of prime rib than what is on the menu.
Any idea of whether he can do this with the chef's favorites price fixe menu and just pay extra like he would if he ordered the prime rib on its own?

Thanks

Michelle

My guess would be no...the people at the next table were trying to get a different veg with their prime rib - not a more expensive one - and were told that it really, truly is no substitutions on that menu.

Now maybe since he's willing to pay extra they might go along with it (pixie dust can happen;)...can't hurt to ask anyway...just wouldn't count on being able to do it.

I was just thinking that it might be an "addition" rather than a "substitution." (Hey bigger check... bigger tip).

I know last time I couldnt substitute risotto for the side dish on the regular menu, even for an additional charge, instead I had to order the risotto on the side which is what we did.

I subbed the mashed potatoes for the potatoes that came with the chicken and had no problems... I did tell our waitress that I couldn't have anything fried due to a stomach issue so maybe that's why it was okay?

i don't think they would let you add more even if you paid though. that's really going beyond the no subsitutions.

1) No.
2) The meal is planned for a certain portion size and profit margin.
3) You can substitute some sides.
4) You cannot substitute main entrée item.
5) This creates too much work in the kitchen if many did this.
6) Then, the profit margin would be reduced by increased manpower/labor.

Interesting responses.

Of course its no big deal if they say no. We just probably wont end up getting dessert since when we wait to order it we almost always end up being too full.

Personally, I would be very surprised if they said no though. It would be the first time I ever had a restaurant turn down an upsell. After all they could charge whatever they wanted for the extra meat so I don't really get the profit margin point. It would be like saying we couldn't add on a lobster tail. Usually they are happy to sell one of the bigger (odd) pieces of meat.

Unfortunately they, and the cash registers, are very computerized. The register knows the prix fixe meal is a certain dollar amount and it cannot adjust.
