Le Cellier..I Have To Ask

We are steak snobs, and this place was great. The bearnaise sauce was excellent, soup great. My DH even had duck for the first timea and he loved it. So it gets my vote!

We were there a few weeks ago for lunch. Being new to the boards, I was so excited to get an ADR there. Our meal was good. Loved the cheese soup and pretzel bread. Our service was great and were there for an early lunch so it wasn't so crowded. After reading all the hype on the boards, I was expecting a Spectacular meal, and although it was good, it didn't live up to the hype for me. We were on the free dining so the meal was definitely a good value (can't beat free!). We are going again next year during free dining and will not be eating there.

By far one of my favorites and I know steaks. I have eaten here 5 times and everytime everything was perfection. However, I have not been since 2005 - so I am not sure if things have changed since then.

We tried Le Cellier in July for the first time and had a neutral experience. Here are some pros and cons of our dining experience...

Pros:
~Quick and friendly service
~Excellent cheddar cheese soup
~Good lunch selection
~AMAZING filet mignon

Cons:
~Waiter was too friendly (expecting a good tip)
~Mediocre steak sandwiches
~Servings were too small

Overall I thought it was a good restaurant and might return again. :)

Okay...as far as facts go...Le Cellier is the #2 highest rated restaurant on Disney Property , and it is number #1 in Epcot.

That is from a former Disney Cast Member who we met at Port Orleans last September. (FYI Victoria and Alberts was #1 in Disney...of course....)

I don't know about this year, but the high demand should speak for itself, as with everything though...each person has different tastes and diff expectations soooo.....mine is:

We do love Le Cellier we eat there each time we visit the world, sometimes twice. I enjoy the soup , the filet mignon and the creme brulee AND the choco cake....that being said I have noticed from the first time that we dined there to the most recent all experiences have been varied....from excellent service, food and all - to noisy crowded and just so so food....
with the free dining plan and its popularity I have noticed a steady decline in the quality of our disney vacation on a whole, esp where the meals are concerned...but Disney is dear to my heart and with that we will continue to go as much as we can.....so that's just my 2cpopcorn::

Ok...flame suit...check. I have been reading these threads and I now have a question. Flame if you must but here goes... Is LeCellier a great place to enjoy a great steak or is it just a good place to eat at Disney? Let me explain I have read some great reviews of LeCellier and I have read some ok ones as well. I was just wondering what everyone thinks. I live in Montana and we hae some fantastic steak places. I am just wondering if LeCellier is all it is made out to be.

I don't think it is all that it is made out to be honestly. But..... the cheddar soup and bread is what is making us go back, not the steak. My DH & I both had the 5 oz. filet and while it was good my DH has grilled better steaks at home. We are taking my MIL & FIL next month but primarily because of the soup, bread, overall atmosphere and superb service.

I booked LeCellier because of what I read and heard about the place and I can honestly say I dont think we will be going back there on future trips... I thought it was good but not great...My dh hated it and I didnt mind it.

I think it is one of the better places in the EPCOT countries, but certainly does not deserve all the hype. If I really wanted good steak, I would go to Shula's or wait to go to a terrific steak place home in NYC. I don't get all the terrific reviews. It's fine- don't get me wrong and we enjoyed our food- but we aren't crushed if we don't go

I know you have tons of replies but I have to add something that I think is funny in a mean way.........

There were 5 in my party, DH, his mother and father, DS and myself. DH and his parents are Canadian, DS and myself are American.

Mine and DS steaks were wonderful, great taste cooked correctly. DH and his parents, not so much....FILs was almost raw not med. rare, both DH and MIL steaks were tough and the waitress lost track of DH charge card for a good 20 minutes which upset DH to no end. DS and myself would go back with hesitation, DH said he could skip it...lol It is only funny because they thought they would get special treatment being Canadian. Like thousands of Canadians don't go every year!

When someone asks an opinion regarding a WDW restaurant, I take it as a given that the comparison only involves other WDW eateries. It's no use saying that there are better steaks to be had in Kansas City, those places are not options. The great reviews of Le Cellier reflect how that restaurant ranks among the other choices within WDW, not how it would stack up against the finest in some distant city. Shula's is a valid point, but you'll pay considerably more there than at Le Cellier.

I love Le Cellier, but I think it's both a great place for being on Disney property, and merely a good steak restaurant when Disney is out of the equation.

Most steak places don't have the really nice ambience of Le Cellier, but then Le Cellier is not exactly Ruth's Chris, either, if all you want is a terrific steak. I wish I hadn't thought of Ruth's Chris. Now I need a road trip to go there.

But I do think Le Cellier, on average for us, is at a higher level than most other table service meals in Disney. We went once about 3 years ago, and it was a pretty dry steak and so-so service. Aside from that one time, the other times were all very good, both in the food quality and service.

DW and I thought Le Cellier was superb. It was the complete package that made it such. The ambiance, service and food. The actual quality of the steaks was better than average but not the absolute best steak I have ever had. The mushroom truffle risotto combined with the fillet mignon was what sealed the deal.

The best quality steak I have ever had was actually served on Disney property if you can believe it. We ate dinner at Sonya's at Disney's Vero Beach Resort last year and the sirloin strip was cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth like butter, makes my mouth water just thinking about it. But I would not call our dinner there one of my most memorable experiences even thought nothing was bad, the restaurant just did not give me that WOW feeling.

We enjoyed our meal, but it wasn't as "OMG to die for" as I was expecting form reading the DIS for months before our trip. When we planned our second trip, and I asked which food places everyone wanted to revisit...it wasn't mentioned.

I'm not saying it wasn't good...it was. But, we have had better steak in the "real world".

As I stated last night on a different thread, we have never had a bad experience at Le Cellier. Food was great, wait staff was great the whole experience was great. We are going to make reservations for April again this year. Also, take mine and all reviews with a grain of salt. Many things can influence ones dining experience. Keep an open mind, Disney is supposed to be all about fun, so eat, drink and enjoy!

We had dinner there last Friday night. The cheddar cheese soup and pretzel was absolutely wonderful. I had the: 7 oz. Filet Mignon - glazed with maple barbecue sauce and accompanied by cream cheese mashed potatoes. The steak was wonderful..the potatoes were very good. My dh had:14 oz. New York Strip Steak - with balsamic red onions, watercress, and roasted Yukon gold potatoes, and finished with veal demi glace and he said it was hands down the best steak he has every eaten. For dessert we had the S'mores and didn't love them and the Chocolate Moose and LOVED it. ;)

We were a party of 5 that ate there last summer, on the dining plan -- 4 adults and one child. We were very much looking forward to eating at LeCellier -- patriotism and all that :)

Three of the adults ordered steak and we had no complaints (although later in the week we ate at Raglan Road and two of us had a MUCH better steak there). My DH ordered a pasta dish instead of steak. He really disliked it! He thought the spicing of the dish was heavy-handed and tasted odd. He picked out what he liked and just left the rest. My girlfriend and I both tasted it and agreed completely with him. I'd go back but wouldn't make it a priority whatsoever, and I know DH wouldn't want to go back.

Having said that, all of us thought the desserts we ordered were delish! :)

I think Le Cellier is a good steak value at Disney. I think if you are expecting great steakhouse steak, you will be disappointed. There are better steaks at Disney - but they cost more (Jiko, Yachtsman, Shula's). However, Le Cellier generally serves a decent steak (I suspect consistancy can be an issue - with the occational great steak hitting the plate and the occational 'Outback Steak House' steak.)

So sad we have to don the flame suit to try to get some honest opinions....Sometimes I read these reviews myself and think that maybe folks need to get out more....:rotfl2:

IMHO - Le Cellier is a good place for a well=prepared hi-quality steak. I say this from our two dinner visits last fall and this past August. But it is not a traditional steakhouse, as you won't find the baked potato and creamed spinach. It's not Smith & Wollensky, or the Palm, or Peter Luger's.

The filets everyone raves about are good - but I had ones equally as good at Kona and Concourse. Yachtsman's filet fell short for me this trip. My kid's strip steaks were by far the best prepared at LeCellier.

Yes, other posters accurately indicated, LC is "wickedly";) overrated on the DIS. The cheese soup is interesting, okay to try once. My son is obsessed with the pretzel bread - it's okay. The creme brulee is essentially the same brulee we find elsewhere in the world. Service is...okay.

What I would suggest is asking a few questions before you try to fight your way into LC and feel as if you're miissing something. When you go out to dinner, where do you usually go? What is your family's taste/appetite, etc.? Where else would you like to dine in WDW that you'd seriously like to try but don't read about on DIS all the time??

It's a good restaurant in WDW. But so was Alfredo's - I loved it - lots here did not. You have to go and form your own opinion. Will you have a bad meal?? No way! But keep those expectations in check!

Not to slight anyone else but this post was fabulous and was exactly the kind of insight I have been looking for in making my decision to eating here. I too and particularly picky when it comes to how my cow is prepard and have eaten at some pretty high profile plaves over the years (Chop House in Chicago & Bern's in Tampa).

For me, a good meak sticks to your ribs but a great meal sticks in your mind. if this place can fall somewhere in the middle, it will have been worth it. My only hope is that I can score an ADR for a night roughly 71 days away.

IMHO I didn't think the tables were that close. Yes at a normal restaurant they would be too close but they were not as close as 50's PTC. Every time I got up at 50's I bumped the woman next to me. NOT good when you are eating. I felt terrible about it but the tables at 50's are so close you could easily feed the person at the next table.
