Your post is totally justified. It is not an excuse by any means, but catycatcat is just a kid. keep that in mind when reading her posts. She dosen't mean any harm. :hippie:

Still un-necessary and should called out...IMHO

I find the "cleaning lady" reference INCREDIBLY offensive, personally. In fact, my stomach literally turns when I hear this on the podcast. Like her decisions or not, she is an accomplished, well educated woman who deserves a little more respect.

but we ARE all entitled to our own opinion.

I agree, it is in bad taste.

It could also be considered in bad taste to call her an "executive." I used to have to clean offices to pay for college and yet I do not find her being called the cleaning lady offensive, IMHO.

FWIW...Every Cast Member is Cross Trained, including "Execs" being Mousekeeping and Lawn Maint. Engineers. :)

To me the offensive part comes in because it seems that he is saying cleaning ladies are stupid as a collective....it would be one thing if she had actually been the cleaning lady but didn't John point out that she was actually working in HR :confused3 Or did I dream that ? Seriously it didn't bother me the first time he ranted about her and called her that but now it is starting to get offensive.

I don't believe he's calling all cleaning ladies stupid so much as saying the competency of a person in that position may not run high enough for the position she's currently in.

I hear Pete rooting for the "little guy" all the time. He doesn't strike me as having an issue with cleaning people or anyone of the like as a whole.

I love Pete and the whole crew on the Dis, I just think that in this instance he's really wrong about the matter and how he's going about slamming her.

I remember Pete getting a letter from a listener telling him that he should just stick to watching the ballet and boy that set him off (understandably so). I'm not finding how Pete derogatorily calling Meg the cleaning lady is any different than what that listener said. :confused3 Pete's rant about Meg's supposed mis-management would be more effective if he dropped the name calling and fact based slammed her.

As for Walt, he might have built it for everyone, but I'm not sure he intended it to be cheap entertainment that people could go to all the time (well if I actually lived in SoCal or Florida I could afford to go all the time because the season pass is reasonable for now).

Lastly, why would anyone want Disney to drop prices seeing as how the parks are already packed. That doesn't make sense. The proof of succcess is based in park attendance numbers.

Lugnut....I don't think we want to see a drop in prices. I think the majority want to see prices stay static for a while (especially in this economy). When price increases happen one after another, after another it seems like greed. That's where Disney is right now. Price increases continue to happen for everything lately. Park tickets have increased 33% over the last 6 years....Too much, too fast. The general Disney fan is upset with the rate and frequency of the price increases. Pete is expressing this for us through the podcast. As far as I'm concerned it's his and the crew's show. They can express their disgust any way they wish. Because considering the number of price increases lately, I'm disgusted right along with them.

Anyone ever see "Dead men don't wear plaid" with Steve Martin.

Cleaning Woman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Every time he says it I crack up and think of that movie!

Hilarious.

Aaron's feeling froggy tonight too!!! :lmao::lmao::lmao:

It is a free country and we do have the Freedom of Speech in the Bill of Rights. So the OP is entitled to his opinion.

While I have no problem with his/her opinion....whether I agree with it or not, please understand that it has nothing to do with free speech or the first amendment.

I have included the text of the First Amendment:

Bill of Rights
Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Thanks, Kevin. :thumbsup2

ADP, holding prices steady would be fine if there was a problem with attendance and I don't see that. If demand is an important component of determining price then from what I see WDW is nowhere near the tipping point on price.

I find it very hard to believe all is hunky dory attendance wise. Disney is offering more deals than I can remember ever seeing. I can't tell you how many pin codes I have received in the last couple months, before this I got maybe one every 6 months or so if I was lucky. The one I got this week is good for dates all the way up to June 11th! Then there is free dining and 7 for 4 has returned. Also add 3 bonus months to your AP and a discount weekly ticket pass offer for Florida residents. I suppose maybe attendance really is good and these could all be just out of the goodness of Meg Crofton's heart, but I seriously doubt it.

In fact, I take it back....I don't find it very hard to believe, I find it impossible to believe.

:thumbsup2 Well said.

I have actually been thinking about this a fair amount lately, which kind of relates to the cause of this rant...Disney raising prices. First of all, I do not like the idea of me having to pay more for me to go to Disney, as it has been a part of my life since I was a child. In regards to the hotel %'s reported this week, why wouldn't Disney raise prices for parking. If my hotel %'s are low and I need to fill them, then I need to provide incentive for people to stay in my hotels instead of off property. Granted, it isn't through a discount, but more of a penalty for staying off site, because you don't get free parking. I am sure that Disney has an operating margin that it has to maintain and if they feel they can't lower hotel prices any lower, then they try to indirectly influence people by other means. Ticket prices are another hot topic...keep raising them and they are going to price people out of the market. Yes, this will occur at some point. But only when people start following through with their threats will Disney start listening. Until then, people will complain, but will still go spend money because this is important to them and they are willing to pay more for it, even if they don't want to. Not trying to go all Adam Smith here, perhaps it is my current economic schooling, but it is about finding the equilibrium price. The attendance numbers and reports from members seem to show that Disney is not having trouble getting people in the parks. Perhaps they aren't spending as much, but they are still going. If they lower the tickets anymore, can you imagine how busy they will be. People already say all the old "slow" times of the year are gone. I find it difficult to believe that if the product offered is not worth the price charged, this many people still continue to go every year. The pins that they are offering sound as though they are only good if you stay on site....which if they are having trouble filling their hotels makes since. Too me it seems like these pins are trying to provide incentives because of occupancy reasons, not park attendance reasons. However, one could argue that improving hotel occupancy will indirectly improve park attendance.

Disney is a business and I need to remember that, even though they try to come across as a giving family business. I believe they are, but they are torn between goodwill and shareholders, which they need both to survive.

Anyway, just something that I have been thinking about lately, hopefully it doesn't get me in too much trouble :). Please don't think I am supporting their approach, but simply putting some economic "business" intuition behind some of their actions; whether I agree with them or not

Thanks

I am kinda tired of the term cleaning lady being used in a derogatory way too. I happen to be what many people call the cleaning lady, even though what I am is the owner of a small house cleaning service. And I happen to think I am just as smart as everyone else and I do pretty well managing a business. ;) So if you want to call her out and disagree with her maybe you don't have to link her to another group of people ....makes it seem like you think we are all idiots.

I have been feeling this way about the "cleaning lady" name, too. I completely respect Pete's venom about Crofton's running of WDW, but the way he says "cleaning lady" like it equates to "leper", just upsets me and makes me feel less respect for the person using the term in that way.

Ditto:thumbsup2, I feel the same way! Every year I try to plan a Disney vacation (I haven't been there since Chirstmas of 2005) they increase something, and to me, as I have to consider also plane tickets... unfortunately... is getting too expensive :( .
