Moving to the Orlando area next month from Chicago. I was interested in what to expect for the average cost for lawn care service in the area. Will have an average sized lawn .29 acres, how often does the grass need to be mowed down there?

I'm in Tampa. I think a couple years ago we used to pay around $120 a month. Maybe a little more? They were supposed to mow and trim the hedges, but they were a little hit-or-miss. DH decided to try doing it himself since we had a lawnmower just sitting in the garage, and he found that unlike when he was forced to mow the lawn as a teenager, he enjoyed it. It definitely needs to be mowed once a week in the spring and summer months, more often if you like your grass short.

We own a lawn care business in Missouri and I would say for that size yard it would be roughly 30-40 per cut and trim but really depends on obstacles in the yard, fence etc. Most companies require weekly or every 2 weeks. We used to have customers that would ask for every 10 days and that was such a pain to schedule so we stopped allowing that. I would say in Florida that weekly is ideal. Even in MO the customers that have every 2 week service usually have a different type of slower growing grass (sorry I'm not a landscaper just the accountant!) Hope that helps!

CA here but we’re once a week fwiw.

LOL. I'm in California. I put weed and feed on 3 weeks ago, so now I have to cut the lawn twice a week!

My mom was paying $90 a month here in California in 2013 for 1/2 acre, all lawn, no obstacles, once a week service. But I think the gardener cut her a break because she was a long time customer, and because she was one of his few customers who paid him a month in advance.

I live on a 60 x 100 lot in NJ, once a week, about $150 a month, not including fall and spring clean up, 9 months a year.

In the Jacksonville area, ours is $80/mo for weekly cut, edge, blow and another $30/mo to add weed pulling. Some are higher. Have been quoted up to $120 for the base care.

I am in South Florida. We pay $120 month but they also trim the bushes and trees. In the summer, it needs to be cut once a week. In the winter you can go 2 weeks easily.

Also may want to look into a Trugreen type of service. They come out once a month to spray. Weeds are rampant in central to south Florida if you are not on top of them. They guarantee no weeds.

Long Island. We pay $20 a week. Spring and fall cleanups are around $150 to $200 each.
We have 1/3 of an acre

I think landscaping is the only thing that’s gone down in price. We paid $25 a week 20 years ago I’m a smaller house.

They blow the leaves off the patio around the pool every week so it isn’t so bad until they all come down in the fall!

When I lived in NC it was $25 to cut and weed eat along the edges .I didnt do weekly because I didn't water and it grew slow. But it took them 20 to 30 min to do so if you figure how many they could do in a day per week they did well. He was a guy with a helper that did lawn service and leaf cleanup in the area, not part of a co.

When we lived in California we started lawn care service @ $35 every other week. When we moved, it was @ $50. Now in GA & pay more. In the spring & summer it’s every week for $60. They cut less often in winter months. We do our own trimming, flowers, mulch, etc. that’s all extra. P.S. I could not find a lawn company that would do every other week. All said once a week or not at all.

I just solved the problem by removing most of our grass. No one here cares what the grass looks like. By August every lawn is complete dead and yellow. Anyone here who waters to keep it green and uses fertilizer is crucified mercilessly as one who is destroying the environment. Your social status drops like a rock.

Depends on how much grass you really have on that lot. Your house and driveway takes up a bunch of it. If you have a pool and lanai, there goes a bunch, too. Then you figure out the flowerbeds, shrubs. Our biggest expense in SWFl is getting the ficus trimmed and treated. About $200-300 every quarter to trim and $500 twice a year to treat for white fly (the ficus acts as our fence on three sides of our lot). During the rainy season, we'll mow at least every week. During the dry season, once every two or three weeks.
