Laurie's Quest Continues....two more marathons in one year!!

Congratulation:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

It sounds like an incredible experience. I was thinking about you all morning hoping that it went well for you and it sounds like it did.

You have a lot to be proud of. You are now a marathoner.

Hey everybody!! Well, I am quite sore today!!!! My legs were really really sore this morning, but they feel a little better tonight, but I still feel it!! I did have a blood blister on my toe from my rest, that I had to pop and drain because it was hurting so much and I couldn't even walk. So, that helped that ALOT!! Other than that I am still so excited about my race yesterday. A lot of my co-workers knew that I was running and wanted to hear all about my race today, so I got to re-live the excitement all over again today! And, the best part was that my students (I teach K-3 Physical Education) were asking why I was moving so slowly today, and I told them about my race, and they were excited also. They were so cute, they were asking "why would you want to run that far!!".....good question! So, today was a really fun day!!

Nicole, Lisa, Tracey, Dona--Thanks so much for the encouragement!! Funny thing is that while I was running, all I was thinking about was coming home and telling you all how great it was!!!! Of course, that is because I knew you could all relate!!

Tracey--my 8:53 mile is not a PR, but for a LR it is pretty close. I ran and 8:42 one time for my PR.

Well, I have no plans to run until the weekend!! Partly because I want to rest a little, but mostly because I don't think I will have any time, as my schedule is quite hectic this week!

Next race on the agenda to get ready for: Spring Lake 5 miler on May 26th! 5 miles is going to seem like nothing compared to 13.1!! :rotfl:

Forgot to post my official results!!

Overall place: 1379 out of 2734

gender place: 607 out of 1603

Age group place: 97 out of 250

Pretty excited about where I finished!!

It sounded wonderful.:cool1: I am so glad you had such a great race. Sorry to hear about the blood blister though. Whats that all about? Have you had blisters before? What kind of socks were you wearing. I wear the Wrights anti-blister socks and so far so good.
I too loved the cheering sections all along the race. I didn't expect it and it was so cool.
Huge congratualtions on your awesome times and achievement.:yay: :yay: :yay: I totally understand how you want to move right onto the next race. I just found out about a race through the Toronto Zoo in October. So thats a must. Running beside the elephants and giraffes. lol.

I have seen your posts on Carole’s thread and hopped over to this one to see how you did.

Way to go! I still can’t seem to run, I guess I’ll have to start little by little so I can do some by January. I surly can walk – powerwalk in 13.5/mile which is under the sweep time but I sure would like to finish better than that.

You inspire me to continue to train and strive for a better time.

Congrats on your accomplishment!

denise

Still resting!! No plans to run till the weekend!

Carole--THANKS! I have never had a blood blister before, but the toe where I had the blister has been sore after my LR's and I think it has been rubbing the front of my shoe. I was reading online somewhere that during a race, water sometimes falls on your shoes while drinking and your toe area gets wet and that causes a lot of friction that can cause a blood blister. When I buy my next pair of sneakers, I am going to see if I should go up a 1/2 size. After my race in May, I am going to get a new pair of shoes, maybe that will help.

Denise--Thanks for stopping by my journal! Just take it one day at a time, you have plenty of time to start jogging by Jan. Glad I could be inspiration, that means a lot. It is funny, because there are so many people on hear that are an inspiration to me. That is what I love about these boards, everyone understands each other!!! Good Luck with your training!

I went up a halfsize because my toe was showing signs of lifting. That solved that problem. Made wearing my runners so much more comfy too. The last time they gave a talk at the Running Room it was about shoes and socks and blisters etc. And he said that in a run you sweat 1/2 a cup in your feet. I was shocked. And heh-how did they measure that???? So never mind dropping water on your foot. Its happening anyway. His point was "Cotton is Rotten". And here I always bought cotton socks all my life until I started all this walking business because I thought it was best. I have noticed my Wrights Antiblister socks keep my feet very dry. Not sure where its sending the water???
He had another good point about the Technical clothing. Apparently getting the smell out is tough. He suggests Arm and Hammer washing detergent or Tide with Febrize as a second choice.
Hope your blister is feeling better.

You did a great job, Laurie! I am so proud of you for all that you have accomplished! Sorry to hear about the blood blister though. :( Maybe going up 1/2 a shoe size will help for next time.:goodvibes

Have a great day!:cool1:

No training at all for me this week!!! I hope to get some running in this weekend, but I have a meeting all day tomorrow for a committee I am on, and then I have to head home to watch the Nascar race!! DBF and I are diehard Nascar fans!! That leaves sunday, but my hockey team is playing in the championship game for our league on sunday, and if we win we get to go to Toronto to play in a big tournament....so, not sure I want to run on sunday. That means I probably won't run again until Monday!

I have my next race in 3 weeks, it is only a 5 miler, but I want to try to work on my speed a bit over the next few weeks. We will see how that goes!!

Blood Blister is all better, we actually had to drain it because it was so painful. But it is better now!

Carole and Tracy--I definetely think I need to go up a 1/2 size in my running shoes. I plan on going this week to get some new shoes, so I am going to talk to the guy at the running store to see what he thinks.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!!

Good luck Sunday with the hockey game. Hope you win and get to come to Toronto. You could try and get tickets to see "We will Rock You" if you are staying in TO. Take in a matinee show. Or just stroll along the waterfront. Theres lots of good shopping too. One of my favourite restaurants is Le Papillion(SP)-great french cuisine. The royal Ontario Musium (my spelling is getting worse from the benadryl I'm taking for my allergy-slash-cold) is cool. Don't waste your money on the CN tower (my humble opinion). Also Casa Loma is a neat place to go. Hope you WIN THAT GAME!!!!!

I hope you're game is going swimmingly today :lmao: Your athletic accomplishments never cease to amaze me! Thank you so much for keeping us all updated.

Your race was so great! Congrats on doing so well, you definitely earned it with as hard as you have been working! Keep up the great work!

Laurie,

GREAT job on your half marathon. :cheer2: Your time was so impressive. I'm really glad you had a positive experience for your first big race!!!

Happy training. And once again...CONGRATS!!!!!

Well, this has been quite a hectic week, no running has been done!! But I have played hockey two times, on sunday and last night. Both were big games for my two teams I am on. I am the only female on both teams, and the goalie at that, so it is always interesting

The first was for a Hockey North America Team. In this league, the team that wins the league championship gets to go to Toronto in June for the National Championships, were all the league champions from around the country that play in Hockey North America play to be the grand champions. So, our local championship was sunday night and WE WON!!!!!!! Final score was 5-1. It was pretty cool. Now, we go to Toronto the first weekend in June for the finals. I can't wait!!!!

The second game was last night and that was for a league at a local rink. We also won that game and the championship for that league. That was exciting too, but not as exciting as Sunday's game.

I hope to do some running at some point this week, as I have my 5 miler coming up on Memorial Day weekend. So, I need to get back to my regular training.

Carole--I will keep in mind your suggestions for Toronto. Not sure how much free time I will have while up there, as we will play 5 games in 3 days, but at least some good restaurants will be visited!!

Tracy, Bekki, Nicole, Amy--Thanks, as always, for the encouragement. It is greatly appreciated. That is why I love this group so much, whenever I am feeling down about something, I just come to the boards and read about how everyone is doing and I am feeling better. This is such a great group!!!!

Congratulations Laurie!

That is great that your team won and that you'll be going to Toronto!:cheer2:

Have a great weekend!

Well, I finally got out there and got a few runs in the last few days. After my half marathon two weeks ago, I decided to take a little time to rest. Well, originally I only was going to take a week off, but that turned into two weeks!! Oh well!

I went out on Saturday afternoon, and did 2 miles, with an average pace of 9:33. I was really happy with that considering I hadn't run in two weeks.

Sunday I rested and spent time with my mom and my DBF's mom.

Last night, I had a hockey game. We started a new season. Unfortunately, we lost 3-2. But it was a really good game!! At this point, in my life, I really don't care if the team wins or loses, as long as we have a good time! And last night's game was a lot of fun!

Today, I went out for a run. Planned on doing 5 miles, but only ended up doing 3.62. I had a pace of 10:55, since I had to walk a bit. I just wasn't feeling it today. My stomach was bothering me a little bit, and I just didn't feel like running. I jogged about half, and then walk for awhile and then I jogged back to my car.

Hopefully, tomorrow will be a better run!

Tracey--Thanks! i am really excited about the trip to Toronto! Just made my hotel reservations and now I want to start figuring what I want to see while I am up there! One definite stop will be the Hockey Hall of Fame!!

Bummer about today's run, but I bet that your body is just adjusting to all the rest.

I'm so jealous that you get to play a team sport, I miss playing water polo so much! Good job on playing well.

Have a great run tomorrow :)

Hi Laurie,

I agree with Bekki.... I bet your body has adjusted to the rest a bit and wants to take things nice and slow for a few days. You still got out there and ran a solid 3.5 miles. Way to go Laurie!:grouphug:

Good luck with your new hockey season!:goodvibes My favorite team sport (to play) is volleyball....

Hope you have a great day!:goodvibes

Hi Laurie!

You did such an amazing job in your half marathon. Your time was so impressive :). I know it's tough to get back out there after a huge event like that...there is a bit of an emotional let down once you've trained and completed something of that magnitude. Don't be too hard on yourself about a tough run. We all have them and it may take a run or two to feel back to your old form as your body is still recovering.

Good luck with your next run. I'm sure it will be a great one :goodvibes .
