Laurie's Quest Continues....two more marathons in one year!!

Today is a rest day for me...I am going to run some errands and just take it easy. I want to scrapbook some if I get some time!! I am so behind on scrapbooking my pictures.

Lisa--Thankfully, no snow out here! I would have been so mad!! THis weather has got to stop, we need spring!! I hope you were able to get your run in outside! As always, thanks for the encouragement!

bekkiz-Thanks! I am glad that I can help to inspire others! I never thought I would be able to do this, in fact I had never run more that 3 or 4 miles growing up, even when I was on the track team, as I was a sprinter. I used to hate running long distance. Now I can't wait to run 8 miles tomorrow! Go figure! I have to say that everyone on this board inspires me. I am always so excited to read about everyone's progress! Good Luck with your training, you will do great!!!

Tracey-Thanks! Enjoy the weekend!

Today I did my 8 mile LR. When I woke up it was a bit cool, only 35 degrees. But at least it wasn't really windy which was great!

I finished my run in 1 hour 14 min. and 59 seconds! My average pace was 9:20. Here is the breakdown:

mile 1: 9:29
mile 2: 9:26
mile 3: 9:32
mile 4: 9:26
mile 5: 9:18
mile 6: 9:22
mile 7: 9:13
mile 8: 9:02

I am glad my times were pretty consistent, and I was surprised my last mile, as always, was the fastest. I felt great the whole time, and actually considered going a little further, but decided to stick to the training plan and not push it! Only 3 weeks until my half marathon...I can't wait!!! I am already excited for the race.

Time to go rest and get some more scrapbooking in...today I am going to scrap my first 5k race from a couple of weeks ago!

Laurie, wow, great job on that long run today- and on holding yourself back. That is so wonderful that you felt you could do more, especially with the weather conditions this morning. You are going to do so great on your half in a couple weeks- I am very excited for you!

Keep us posted- you are an inspiration to the rest of us! Have a great Easter!

Lisa

Great run!!! Eight miles too. Excellent!! Is that your longest run yet? You will be fine with the half marathon with those times.

Glad its not snowing where you are. This is unusual for us. We sometimes get snow but it doesn't usually stay. There is 4 inches outside my door this morning.

Today I'm off to Toronto to see Phantom of the Opera. I'm taking the train which is a nice relaxing way to go.

Have a great day!

What a great run! It is great that your times are so consistent! Keep up the great work!

Those times are lookin' good, Laurie!:cool1: Keep up the good work!:cheer2:

How did your scrapbook turn out? Were you able to finish it?

Hope you have a great week!:cool1:

So, I guess i should catch up on the last few days. After my LR on saturday, I took Sunday as a rest day. Thankfully I wasn't really that sore after my 8 mile run! Monday night I had a hockey game, so no running. BTW--my team won 7-2!! It was a great game!!

Today, I did a 5 mile run. Finished in 46:22 with an average pace of 9:15.
It wasn't too cold, about 50 degrees, but it was quite windy. I was surprised at my times, since I felt rather tired during my run. But I am excited with my times!!

Lisa--Thanks so much for the kind words! If it wasn't for everyone here and the great encouragment, I wouldn't be able to do what I do!!

Carole--Yes, 8 miles is my longest run yet! And I have to say that it didn't really seem that far! I am really psyched for my race, only 19 days!!!
How was Phantom...that is one of my favorite shows ever!!!

Nicole-Thanks! I am very pleased with the consistency, I think that is going to be important in my race in a few weeks, so I hopefully I iwll be able to do that during an actual race!

Tracy--Got a few pages of my scrapbook done, but didn't quite finish. HOpefully, I will get some more in this week!

Congrats on your team's win, Laurie!:thumbsup2

Your times are awesome! Keep up the good work!:cheer2:

That's great that you were able to get some pages done in your scrapbook.:goodvibes I started one for each of my daughters and haven't kept up with them.:rolleyes1 Maybe when they get a little bit older, we'll make one big scrapbook for Disney.:thumbsup2

Have a great Wednesday!:goodvibes

Congrats on your teams great game! :cheer2:
Your times are great, even in the wind! You are going to do great at your race!

I loved Phantom and really enjoyed the day with my son's fiancee. First time we've gone away together. My DD gets a little jealous of the time I spend with Laura, like its taking away from her. And I used to always invite Laura when I would take my DD out to dinner or a movie. Had to stop that because it bothered DD I found out. So now I do seperate dates. Too bad really...but no point trying to change people.

Congrats on the hockey team win. Your gluts get quite a workout playing goal I bet.

Hi Laurie, just checking in to see how training is going- hope all is well with you. I am thinking today was probably a long run day for you? How did it go? Only a couple weeks left before we can cheer you on at your race!:cheer2: :cheer2:

Today, I was supposed to do a 9 mile LR, but decided to bump it up to 10 since I missed a couple of runs this week. After Tuesday's 5 miler, I played hockey on thursday night and that is it until today. So, decided to do 10 miles! I actually felt awesome during and after my run! I finished my 10 miles in 1:34:19 with an average pace of 9:25. Here is the breakdown of my miles:

mile 1: 9:31
mile 2: 9:25
mile 3: 9:19
mile 4: 9:23
mile 5: 9:25
mile 6: 9:28
mile 7: 9:20
mile 8: 9:18
mile 9: 9:40
mile 10: 9:31

I actually got to meet a fellow disboards member on my run today! I was wearing my new WISH shirt and she had on her WDW marathon shirt so we were able to talk for a brief time. It was great!

Amy--if you are reading this, it was GREAT to meet you! Good luck in your race in two weeks!

Tracy--Thanks for the encouragement! I will definetely need it over the next two weeks as my race approaches, I am actually getting a bit nervous about it!

Nicole--Thanks for the encouragement!

Carole--Glad to hear you had fun at the show. That's too bad you can't spend time with both DD and Laura together, but I think it's great that you find time for both of them! Hockey definetely is a great workout for my legs...glutes and quads get a great workout!! I really think my training for my half marathon has really helped my playing in my hockey games, which is great!!

Lisa--Thanks for checking in! Didn't get too much training in this week, too many things going on. But I am ready to get all my training in over the next two weeks to get me ready for my race!! Can't wait to read how your run went today!!!

Again, THANKS!! to everyone for all the encouragement it is greatly appreciated!!!

Well, I am home today, because schools are closed due to the storm. I have to say that this is probably the worst storm I have ever seen in this area in my lifetime....the only other two close to this would be Hurricane Floyd in 1999, and the floods we had in the early 80's. It has been raining non-stop for more than 24 hours...they are saying we got 8-9 inches of rain already and it is STILL RAINING!!!! All of the local rivers are at major flood levels, and they are saying that the rivers have not even crested yet. so, the worst in terms of flooding is probably yet to come. It is impossible to get anywhere because it is flooded all over, thankfully, I have no plans to go out today.

I am probably going to have to find a new running route for the time being, seeing that the park that I run in runs along the Saddle River, which is over a major flood level. That being said, the park and trail I run on are probably under ALOT of water!! Hopefully, it subsides after a couple of days but we will see.

Well, luckily today is a rest day, I am supposed to play in a hockey game tonight but not sure if that will be cancelled or not, haven't heard anything yet.

Not sure what I will do for tomorrow's run, going to play it by ear, and get a plan together tomorrow....may have to head to the gym for a TM workout...yuck!!

Hopefully, everyone else is having better weather in their area than in the northeast!! Please send some sunshine our way!

Wow! That must be an amazing storm. I'll have to watch the weather channel today and check it out. Our sky today has that leaden gray colour and the winds are quite gusty. So far no rain but it sure looks like it will be soon. We must be on the edge of your storm. I'm glad it wasn't like this yesterday.

Glad to hear your safe and sound out of the weather.

Storm has finally slowed down, hasn't been raining for the last hour or two...good thing. Just heard that my park that I usually run in, is under about 2-3 feet of water. I haven't ventured out to check things out, but hopefully the floods go down pretty quick. Otherwise, looks like I gotta really find an alternative place to run this week and next.

What crazy weather! Just make sure to keep yourself safe! I hope you don't have to tm, no matter how I try to convince myself that I can have a good tm workout, it just never works out that way! Hopefully that water will recede quickly and you will be back to your park soon!

Laurie- I am glad to hear you are ok! I thought about you this morning when I saw some of the flooding in NJ on tv. I hope the water drops quickly- we are feeling some of the effects here too, but thankfully my area doesn't have too much flooding. The wind seems to be the worst right now- we have had a lot of power outages today because of it. I decided to take the day off today- definitely not running weather outside, and I didn't want to be on a TM when the power went out, lol!

Glad you stayed safe!
Lisa

PS- I just noticed that you are in Bergen County. When I was in high school, a friend of mine marched for the Cadets of Bergen County Drum and Bugle Corps. I don't know what that has to do with anything...just reminded me of it. :)

Wow Laurie,

That weather sounds intense! I hope that the raining has stopped and that the water has started to recede. We had a lot of very intense wind here yesterday that made travel tough at times.

Did you get your hockey game in last night or was it canceled?

Hope you have a great day today!:goodvibes

I got in my 5 miler today in 47:31 with an average pace of 9:29. I was really excited about my run, especially since the park i run in is a MESS!!! There is mud and water everywhere!! The path is passable, but it is like weaving in and out of hte mud and water! The worst part is that it is a bit smelly.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words...the storm was crazy and hopefully we have nothing like that for a LONG time! I had a few friends who still can't go back home because of several feet of water in their houses. It will be a long clean-up for them. But Flooding here is finally starting to subside but some areas are still under water!!

Nicole--No TM runs for me thankfully! Monday night was a hockey game and then yesterday I was just too tired to run. By today, park was ok to run!!

Lisa--that is so cool that you had a friend who was in the Cadets...I actually had a good friend who also marched in the Cadets, and I actually at one point was going to audition, but never did it. Oh well, we used to go to see them at Giants Stadium every summer at the Drum and Bugle shows.

Lisa--Got in our hockey game, we tied 4-4..it was a good game, but we should have won...oh well, maybe next time!!

Congrats on your run! I bet it was a relief to be able to get out, even if it was a bit stinky. I can't believe your race is getting here so quickly! You're going to do great!:cheer2:
