Day 2 – First day at WDW!
Tuesday 11th Sept

I woke up around 8am feeling much better than yesterday and fully ready to get into ‘Disney mode’! We got up showered and ready in no time and headed down to the lobby to meet everyone else. We were heading off to Chef Mickey’s for breakfast this morning, I think this is a great way to really get you in the Disney mood with the characters and a nice breakfast. We jumped on the bus to the Magic Kingdom and my Nan ran in to get a battery for her camera – she still has film camera and completely forgot it needed a new battery!

Camera sorted, we head over to get the monorail over to the Contempory, we got there at around 9:30 and our ADR wasn’t till 10:15 so we had plenty of time to have a wander around! I LOVE the shop in the Contempory and I always find something I want to buy! This trip was no exception and I purchased a cute mickey purse for the holiday! :yay:

Purchase in hand we went off to check in at Chef Mickey’s, we were seated straight away even though we checked in early. Great start! We sat down and the waitress brought over our Orange juice and coffee, we could see that some of the characters were almost at our table so we decided to wait to get some food! (As painful a decision as that was for DH!) :lmao:

We took some pictures with Pluto and then they started the ‘celebration’ so we all waved our napkins over our head! My Nan always seems to end up with her Napkin twisted around her wrist which is pretty funny. Celebration over everyone heads to the buffet, whilst most of my family indulge themselves with bacon, sausage and scrambled egg I start on a more healthier selection of fruit……id like to say it lasted but its far to difficult to sit next to 5 people scoffing bacon and resist the temptation! Throughout the course of breakfast the rest of the characters came round and we got our pictures with them. :goodvibes

After breakfast we headed off to the Magic Kingdom, we always do this park on the first day! No matter how much I love all the other parks, I have to do Magic Kingdom on the first day!

We headed down Mainstreet and stopped to watch the show in front of the castle before heading left towards adventure land, first stop – Jungle Cruise.
Now I love this ride IF you get a good captain! I know the jokes are cheesy and mostly the same but if you get a good skipper then it makes it so much more entertaining! After the Jungle cruise we did the Tiki Rooms (again cheesy but fun) and the Pirates of the Caribbean. When we came out there was Jack Sparrow and some another pirate doing a show outside – we went to have a look and the guy really did look so much like Captain Jack! Gary had to drag me away!

By this time it was getting on for midday and the temperature was getting really hot! So we decided to cool off and go do Big Thunder mountain, which we walked straight onto. We then went to do Splash mountain which only had a 5 minute queue. I love doing this ride with my mum as she is a bit of a wuss and screams at the drop (although she does like the ride) so its all good fun. Getting wet cooled us off a bit and we decided to head over to Fantasyland.

Now for the 2 weeks leading up to this trip I had been telling DH that the haunted mansion was in rehab and it would open on the 13th September (I think), he had read on some other Disney website (shock horror!:scared1: ) that it opened quite a bit before this. I told him the Dis is never wrong! So we made a bet as to who would be right, I said I would buy him 2 golf shirts if he was right and he would buy me some new sunglasses if I was right. I had my eye on these gorgeous Oakley ones and I knew they sold them at downtown Disney and I was secretly confident that the Dis wouldn’t let me down. So the tension was mounting as we headed towards the Haunted Mansion and……I was right!!!!:dance3: Gary was pretty annoyed so I agreed to let him have the golf shirts anyway which made up for being wrong! (well almost):rolleyes1

So anyway, in Fantasyland we did ‘it’s a small world’, and then went over to my favourite attraction – Mickey’s Philharmagic! After this we headed over to Main Street to have a look through some of the shops and then watched the parade from that top balcony at the train station. I enjoyed the parade this year, it was a bit different to the last time I had watched it! After the parade we headed back to the hotel and had a bit of a swim for an hour or so. The Dolphins pool is lovely and relaxing, although I was disappointed that the waterfall feature was not working. After that we headed back upstairs to get showered and changed before heading out for the evening.

We got in a taxi and went down to crossroads this evening, we played the Pirates cove adventure golf and got around to the 10th hole before it started to rain – we chose to head back and get a rain check before it really started to rain heavily. We got our rain check and headed over to TGI Fridays and the heavens opened! We had a nice meal at TGI’s – I had the key west shrimp which came with green beans and a side salad which was delicious! After dinner we headed over to the supermarket to pick up a few beers for DH and some wine for me.:rolleyes1

We headed back to the hotel and decided to chill out and relax in the room ready for another full day tomorrow! :goodvibes

sounds like an amazing first day of your holiday. I too love the contemporary shop. It seems to have so many extra bits and pieces.

We also like to go to TGI at Crossroads. Hope the balloon man was there.

I always like to read your reports. Looking forward to reading more.
