Laur’s & Andy do the Universe and the World – Day Fourteen

Me – Laur’s – 27
DH – Andy – 28

Day fourteen – 4 October 2006 – Off to Neverland

Mickey and Stitch woke us up at 8.10 am this morning, we had a cup of coffee and then Andy brought us breakfast to the room. I had froot loops, Andy had frosted flakes and we shared a croissant. We were both feeling a bit down as today was our last full day.

We headed off first to Animal Kingdom, arriving there at 10.15 am with the main aim being for me to experience my favourite ride in the World, Dinosaur. We got this under our belts first, and then Andy went over to Expedition Everest. I rode Dinosaur again, positioning myself at the end of the pre-show room so that I could get on the ride in the first row. Mission accomplished. I think this ride has to be experienced in the front row – not only can you see more of the detail, but the ride is more intense.

I was surprised to find Andy waiting for me at the ride exit. He had been told that the single rider line at EE was not operating, and had decided he didn’t want to wait in the 50 minute queue. I just don’t understand Disney’s reckoning on this one – why advertise a ride as having a single rider option and then not allow people to use it? So poor Andy didn’t get to ride EE, both because I am a wuss and because of Disney’s strange queuing policy.

It had got around to 11.45 am and we were both hungry, so we picked up a fast pass for Kilimanjaro Safaris and then decided on an early lunch at Tusker House. We had a diet coke each and shared a fried chicken sandwich (tasty, much like KFC) which came with steak fries (a nice change from piddly little fries), and we shared a cheesecake.

After lunch it was time for us to ride Kilimanjaro Safaris, which was excellent as always. We saw the anteater for the first time ever.

We headed out of the park after this and I was sad at the thought of no more Dinosaur for another 12 months. On our way out of the park, we cheered ourselves up with a couple of photos. I had mine with Brer Bear, who is huge and I was a little bit scared of (!) and Andy had his with Baloo who was a lot of fun.

We caught a bus over to the TTC and then the monorail to the Magic Kingdom. A CM was handing out monorail stickers, one of which is now adorning my passporter.

We arrived at MK about 1.30 pm. We went straight to Buzz Lightyear to help him defend the galaxy, and then picked up a fastpass for Winnie the Pooh, before hopping on Sneezy for a ride through Snow White’s Scary Adventures. We then rode Winnie the Pooh, got a fastpass for Splash Mountain and watched the end of the parade with an ice cream – a Mickey bar for Andy and a Mickey cookie for me as I am notoriously dangerous with Mickey bars. We then rode POTC, Splash and Peter Pan. I had my picture with Peter Pan who was very sweet and chatty and took a bit of a shine to me, I think. He told me off for saying Andy was my husband!

We just had time to fit in a showing of the new Dream Along with Mickey show. This is a cute show and very good at tugging at the heartstrings – particularly the heartstrings of those dreamers who are being packed off back home to England tomorrow. I don’t think I need to tell you that I cried all the way through this.

Thoroughly exhausted from all the crying, we went to Pecos Bills for tea and to recharge our batteries. I had a chicken wrap and Andy had a bacon double cheeseburger, and we both had diet cokes.

After tea, we went over to the Pirates shop to buy Andy some Captain Jack Sparrow boxer shorts which we had spotted earlier. These weren’t here earlier in the week, so it just goes to show how often Disney change their stock.

We queued up for Buzz again to give me one last chance to redeem myself. Whilst in the queuing area, I was wondering out loud whether I was brave enough to ride Space Mountain. This isn’t really like me but I was feeling a bit crazy with it being our last night and all, plus we had noticed that the wait time was only 5 minutes. I am pleased to report that I finally did myself justice on Buzz and blew any and all previous scores out of the water by becoming a Ranger First Class with a score of 465200!!

We had a ride round the TTA and then I was so hyped up by my Buzz score that I allowed myself to be led into the queuing area for Space Mountain. I regretted this somewhat, as the wait time had now gone up to 30 minutes, and I was a near nervous wreck by the time we got to the front of the queue. To help put my mind at rest, I asked the lady next to me if it was scary. She reassured me that it was fast but not scary. I loved the first part, it reminded me a bit of Dinosaur which helped, and I thought the ride itself was OK. For some reason I kept thinking I was going to bang my head on the track above (at 5ft 3” I admit this is a bit unlikely) and some of the twists were a bit scary. I always find thinking about Christmas comforting, so tried to focus on that the whole way round. If you happened to be on the ride at the same time as us and heard some mad woman singing Mistletoe and Wine, that was me! I think I will repeat the experience, but next time I will wait longer after eating, I felt quite sick for a few hours afterwards.

We had another ride on Winnie the Pooh, and then caught the end of Spectromagic. After Spectro, we hightailed it over to the Judges Tent in Mickey’s Toontown Fair to pick up our picture from MNSSHP in front of Cinderella’s carriage, lovely.

We made it out of the shop in time for a final tearful ride on Winnie the Pooh. We also bought a cutie Pooh bear for Andy’s auntie who was in hospital at the time.

We watched Wishes from the Fantasyland bridge for a change and it was nice to see the fireworks from a different angle. Being in no rush to leave the park we had a wander round the castle, and stopped off to buy a cutie photo album for our holiday pics.

We got back to the AKL around 10.15 pm for baths and packing. We finished the evening with some alcohol and chocolate.
