We are going on our trip in November, The first half of our trip is low-mod crowds while the second half is moderate to high as we come into the Thanksgiving week. We are staying in a family suite at ASMu. Is it a realistic option to think I could do a load of laundry one evening mid stay? I dont really want to, but wondering if we all have enough casual/comfortable stuff to last us through the whole trip...

I'd rather go buy more clothes than have to deal with waiting for hours to use a washing machine, so I guess my question is are there an aqequate number of machines? and do people use them?
Thanks!

I, personally, never do laundry on vacation, even when I've had a condo with a washer and dryer in it. I do enough of that at home. However, you will find a number of people who do here on the boards. You might look at the AOA thread on the resorts forum to see if they have pictures, I don't know how many machines are there but I know they have a number of them.

I dont WANT to do laundry:) I'm just thinking if we have a pool evening on our AK day or an afternoon break from the park one day, one load might let me wash up some pants/pjs/underwear etc, to hold us over for the week. It's pretty normal for my 3yo to go through 2 outfits per day and with 5 of us, I guess I just want to be prepared. I will check out the other thread. Thanks for the information!

I always do laundry on a longer stay. All of the Laundry rooms are by the pool so we go swimming while doing the laundry (or the bar if later at night). And it is so nice to not have to pack an extra suitcase. My sister in law even spent our last night there doing all the laundry while we swam at the pool so she did not have all that laundry to do at home.

Truly if you wrap it around down time at the resort it does not take hardly any time. The biggest issue is getting the clothes there. I bring a garbage bag from home. Some roll down there suitcases. I even bring detergent pods and dryer sheets so I don't have to buy once there. Most of the laundry rooms have been converted where you can use your credit card to pay, but I bring change just in case. If I remember correctly it is about a dollar to dry and $1.25 to wash.

Laundryview.com/disneyworld let's you view what washers and dryers are in use/available at each resort. It's very handy. You can just check the website for availability before you go to do your laundry.

I almost always do laundry once while there. It lets you pack a whole lot less! And it's really not a big deal. I throw in one load of lights, one load of darks. Throw them in and head to the pool, food court, arcade, gift shop, etc. It's usually during an afternoon break or early evening pool night. Nice to not have all those stinky clothes in the room all week, too! (Think teenage boys, August, hot and humid...you get the picture!) I have a very large mesh laundry bag that I always pack. That's what our dirty stuff goes in and that's how I carry it down to the laundry.

For you all that do laundry, is availability an issue or are there machines alwasy available?

It looks like there are 2 areas of 8 washers/10 dryers roughly in our resort. That seems like a decent amount?

I've never had an issue finding machines. There have always been plenty. And with that new app, you can check before you lug your stuff down there!

If staying at a Value Resort, the laundries at the "secondary pools" usually have much less traffic that the main pools.:)

I do laundry every trip - allows for much less packing. I've never had any problem getting 2 machines at once - one for light items and one for darker items. I go early one morning and then sit by the pool and read while its running. Gets done really quickly.

Thanks for all the suggestions and ideas!
Just one thing that other folks did not mention already - I bring my own Tide pods and bounce dryer sheets in our luggage. I prefer to bring my own! Also as far as transporting the laundry back and forth - we put the dirty clothes we want to wash in a suitcase and then bring that suitcase (a nice roller one) to the laundry and then it is easy to get back. We also have packed large laundry bags that we'll throw in the wash with the laundry so that they are clean and can be used to bring our clean clothes back to the room. My DH will do the laundry at the quieter pool while I'm with the kids at the feature pool. He gets to have a little down time and we get laundry done!

^^Was just about to mention the rolling suitcase trick! We are similar to lots of other posters - bring only carry on luggage and wash clothes there, including any new Disney t-shirts (I can't wear new items of clothing without washing it first). As long as there is no one waiting to use the dryers, I often do one load, but split it into two dryers to speed up the process.

But now that we tend to stay at OKW, with the washer/dryer in the unit, it makes life that much sweeter - woot woot!

I always do laundry at WDW, a load of darks, whites and what ever is left. I take tide pods and dryer sheets and 2 rolls of quarters. I've never had to wait for a machine in 25 years but I never do it when it's raining because I assume the machines would be busy. We wear our favorite stuff, I wash it and we wear it again. We take twice the clothes we need. I will say, a at home I do laundry and iron everyday! That might be weird.

Just an FYI--a lot of the machines have now been converted to credit card only. Not sure exactly which ones, but I know POFQ was cards only last month. No need to carry those quarters with you!

I end up doing it every trip, DD (17) can't go a week??? I usually do laundry mid-week on a afternoon pool break. Machines are usually available, no need to bring change (awesome), I bring the detergent pods (easy), a trash bag and now they have a website to check machines it will be even easier to wash.

That's awesome! No quarters will lighten my load :)

I seem to always do laundry on vacation and that's ok. It makes packing easier, so I always plan on doing it mid trip during down time ie; kids and dh are at pool, or at night if we come back early. I used the new system this past June at BWI and it's awesome! FYI you need a credit card. At the time, it wasn't taking magic bands for payment.
