Laundry TIPS?

Here's one: Take your own detergent and softner sheets. The detergent tablets are great for travelling (just be sure to break them up somewhat because some don't dissolve as well as others.) The cost of those individual boxes of detergent are ridiculous! :)

The purex laundry tablets you only need one tablet where a lot of the others you need 2....so it turns out they are cheaper then most of the others.
I normally take 1 tablet per day that I am on vacation and they pack well in my bag. The Spray n Wash tablets are really good for color safe bleach...I haven't traveled with them before but I tried them at home and I plan to bring one tablet per day of them also.

Don't forget to bring a roll or two of quarters. It is the worst feeling in the world to load up the machine and then find out the change machine is broken.

I take the tablets and really crush them up as they don't seem to dissolve well, especially in cold water.

The Spray & wash tablets work great, we used those recently and I will be packing them for the next trip.

If you take softener sheets be sure to pack them in some plastic baggies and not put them in a suitcase with any food items as everything will taste & smell like softener.

I save my quarters in old 35mm film canisters and take a few with us.

I also put the dirty laundry in regular drawstring garbage bags in the room (sorted by whites, darks, etc..) and then they are seperated when I get to the laundry area.

I put the drawstring bags in one of my rolling pullmans and take that down to the laundry room, then fold everything & put it back in there and roll it back when I am done. I put the tablets, softener sheets and quarters in one the pockets so I am all set.

Depending on what your schedule is like, this may or may not work. I usually find that I cannot sleep terrifically while at WDW-who knows why? So I usually get up at 4 or 4:30 am sometimes & do the laundry. It is quiet, no one around and I can take a book or mag with me and enjoy some peace & quiet. Usually at night I get the laundry bags situated, make sure the suitcase is all set with the detergent, etc... in case I wake up & want to do a few loads, then I am all ready to roll (excuse the pun!).

Hope this helps!

Where you stay also makes a difference. At the Polynesian there were way less machines than at Port Orleans and surprisingly more people doing laundry at the Poly than at POR. We found that early morning was best or mid afternoon while we took a swim break- we could dump the clothes in before swimming- throw them in the dryer after and collect them after that.

Quarters are essential- at both hotels last May the machines were broken and people had to hike to the front desk to get quarters!

Unless you stay at a DVC resort. :) Not only do the larger units have their own washers and dryers, but there are FREE laundry rooms by the pools for people who stay in the Studio units.

my portable, fold flat, mesh laundry basket I bought at the local family dollar store for $4.00.

It starts the trip out as a dirty clothes hamper and ends up carrying clean laundry.

It goes every where with us. :)

::MinnieMo We've taken Purex Tabs with us every year, they don't have to be broken up like the others and you only use 1 instead of 2 (someone else mentioned this) :) But I haven't been able to find any laundry tablets in any of the stores in my area for the past 6 months. I was really surprised that they didn't stay on the shelf longer than they did.....they seemed like a good value to me and I thought more people would use them and it would slowly make powder and liquid obsolete. But oh well, I did find 10 load size boxes of Wisk detergent for 1.00 at my local grocery so I got one of those and I'll just put it in a large ziplock so it won't spill everywhere.....sure do miss my Purex tabs though. Another 'tip' that I do is make sure I bring a book or good magazine that I can read while doing laundry. The hotel we are staying at has a locked wash room so no one from outside the hotel can get access to my clothes if I left them there, but still you can't trust everyone at the hotel either so I stay with my loads of laundry till they're done. So a good book comes in handy, better then sitting there watching the spin cycle...LOL

Disnee Dad Says.............................................You all are forgeting the most important part.

Make the dad do the laundry.

When I do it, it comes down in luggage, gets cleaned, nd goes up folded in the luggage. If you have young kids, you get double bonus to watch them swim, as wife gets free time.

It takes about two beers to wash, two beers to dry, and one beer to fold it up nicely. And everyone is happy!

My laundry tips is, don't do it. I don't want to do it at home never mind on vacation.:D

My tip: Pack one of the stain sticks (Spray 'n Wash makes one) for treating stains until you can do laundry. Saved quite a few of my DD's character tee's this way. She always manages to drip a little bit of whatever she's eating right onto her chest!
