Laundry??? Really?

I come accross so many posts on this board that invarably turn into threads about doing laundry. I have never even considered doing laundry while on vacation. Do that many people really do laundry at their hotels??? Is it just a strange DIS phenomenon, or does this happen everywhere? I don't think I can be converted... I'd have to be gone a month before I'd think about doing laundry on a trip. So, what about you?

We are DVC members (laundry facilities in the villas) It is sooo easy to throw a wash in at night. We are leaving tomorrow and its a joy to pack "light" plus less laundry once I get home. That said, I wouldn't go "out of my way" to do laundry if it wasn't right there.

We only do laundry when we stay in a villa that has a washer and dryer in the room so we can do it at night or while we get ready in the morning. Other than that - no laundry for us on vacation. And, we even travel with a toddler these days!

I always do laundry at WDW but it's because we usually stay 10 to 13 days at time. It's usually underwear that I don't pack enough of, but I usually wash everything then we tend to wear our favorite stuff over and over. The laundry facilities are nice. Last year we were bumped from AKL to SSR 1 bedroom villa and the thing I was most excited about was the washer and dryer. The only dirty clothes I had when we got home were the clothes on our backs. And with me it's not just washing. I have to iron it too.

We've never planned to do laundry, yet the past two Decembers I have ended up doing it. In 2004, I had to wash our warm clothes because it was colder than usual and this past December we ran out of our ts and shorts because it was warmer than expected.

we'll be gone for 9 nights and we'll definitely be doing laundry . . . we're flying out of a small airport in our hometown and we are very limited in size and weight for our luggage for the first leg of our flight, so we can only bring 4 changes of clothes each or so if we want to be able to bring home souveniers at all. Even so we'll have to have most of them shipped, lol.

I've always done laundry. We try to pack light and I hate dragging home dirty clothes. At AKL, the laundry is right by the pool, so it's lovely to go out late at night and wade while the washer does it's thing. At other resorts, I take my journal and get my TR caught up. It's a break from the kids, I'm usually the only one there, gives me a chance to ahhhhhhhh.

I used to feel the same as the OP however, I really would rather do laundry the morning we leave while DD and DH swim in the pool because it's alot better bringing home clean laundry and not having to do any for a few days then taking home smelly laundry and having to deal with it right away. It's actually not so bad

I usually go for between a week and 10 days, and I've only done laundry once. I usually end up buying a shirt or two there, so between that and packing enough, there's no need!

If I were staying in a DVC property that had the laundry in the room, I may consider it, but anywhere else where you have to wait for your stuff to wash and dry, no way! Vacation is too short!

we go for 2 weeks so laundry is a must. I couldnt travel back with dirty laundry as immigration always check through the suitcases.

I couldn't imagine not doing laundry. We stay for 3 weeks and when travelling to USA we have 2 medium suitcases for 3 of us, on the return we'll have 3 suitcases and a holdall ......LOL

I bring only enough clothes for 5 days each, it is so much easier at the airport and it really is no biggie .......

I pop the washing in and go get a coffee and read my book by the pool, I then head back and swap them into a dryer, go pick up breakfast for my troops and drop it off to them, by then the washing is done, fold it up and back to the room and we're ready to go play!

or I'll do it whilst we are chilling in the pool in the evenings ......

I wouldn't have dreamed of it before having children, but now with their spills and stains and little accidents, it's a common occurence for me to do laundry at least one night of our trip.

I tend to get Disney insomnia -- like the TV commercial where the family is too excited to sleep -- for the duration of our stay. When staying in non-DVC accomodations or DVC studios (which don't have the W/D in the room), I usually go down to the laundry room late at night, with a book to keep me company. I often take a quiet, peaceful, moonlight swim in the quiet pool or sit in the hot tub for a bit. Pure bliss -- except for the actual "doing" of the laundry, that is!

We were just at Disney for 7 days, and we did laundry about midway through the trip. The ASMo has a laundry room close to the food court, so I threw a load in while we were eating breakfast so that it was nearly done before we went back to the room. It didn't take more than an hour, and it helps not to have so many clothes to wash when you get back home!

Two week vacations with laundry washing is far easier than packing for two full weeks. The washers and dryers in the 1+br Villas makes it a cinch and really takes no time at all away from regular vacation routine.

We always do laundry. We can pack less clothes that way and we always do it the day we are coming back. THis means one less thing to do when we get back. I am always up before everyone else so I do it early morning or when the kids are at the pool.

We pack lite - I do laundry at least once during our 8 to 9 day stay. Either very early in the morning or late at night. Cuts down on the luggage we bring.

I have 4 kids under the age of 10....um, yeah, we do laundry on vacation I just returned from a beach vacation yesterday and I washed an average of 2 loads a day

Having young kids and all the spills and messes always adds up to a late night at the laundry room or a "chill" day by the pool while mommy does laundry. It's cool with me!

When you stay during hot and humid August for more than 10 days, doing laundry is a must.
