OK, so I blame my flaky pregnancy brain. I put a brightly colored (red/orange) throw rug in with my kitchen towels. Now everything that was white is now pinkish orange. Am I totally screwed? I haven't dried them yet. Is there something that I can do to get rid of the red dye? I guess it's not a huge deal since it's just kitchen towels. But, I had some brand new towels and placemats in there.

When I was a kid, I had a white t-shirt that had a bright red collar. Well needless to say, when I washed it the red ran all over the shirt. My mother said to soak it in salt water. Believe it or not, it worked! I don't know if it will work on your items, but it couldn't hurt.

Good luck!

try a lil white vinegar in wash water,, maybe 1/2 cup to load of whites? since it towels etc shouldnt hurt anything at all, uhh maybe 1 cup if its a large load:)

If the items were totally white, you can bleach them with clorox. If not, the sure fire way to save them is to buy some "Rit™ Color Remover." It is sold wherever Rit dye is sold.

I bleach my kitchen towels....I figured I'd rathey have them sanitized than their origional colors, BUT nont one has ever faded in regular Clorox bleach. I'm not sure why they don't fade, but they don't. If you don't want to take that chance, use Oxy-Clean in the wash with them. You were right not to dry them. If the dye was easy to fade onto other items, it should fade out of these!:D
