Hello. First time poster here!

We are booked to stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge for two weeks in October and I was looking for some info on the laundry facilities.

I've had a look at photos of the washing machines and they look very different to what I'm used to. Will they have different settings such as 'cottons', 'delicates', 'handwash' etc?

Also, I'm used to using Sainsbury's non bio liqui tabs. What do they sell in the laundry rooms. I'm guessing liqui tabs are likely to burst if I put them in my suitcase, right?

I know it's a rather mundane topic but I just want to be prepared:)

I can't exactly remember the settings, only to say I don't think they have the options our machines do, a bit more basic I think. I took liquid tabs last holiday and put them in a zip lock bag in my case and they were fine. Also , I can guarantee I won't have enough quarters!

I have only used laundry at All Star resorts but assume they are all similar. These photos are from 2009 when I got a little bored.

I always take solid tablets and break them up at the bottom of the machine. I set it to permanent press as it seems a fairly gentle cycle. I then split the load between two dryers but I dry most t-shirts on hangers in room (works in value resorts as hanging rail not inside cupboard).

Be careful using laundry surfaces as cleaners wipe them down with bleach and I ruined a pair of DDs shorts that way.

Great info. Thanks, I'll maybe take a few powder tabs and some liquitabs and see how I go. Do you have to wait with your washing or is it fine to leave it and come back when it's finished ?

I would leave it and go and get a drink, but it doesn't take very long maybe 20 - 30 minutes to wash.

And remember the machines are very big. I use 2 tablets in my machine at home but upped it to 3 in the laundry machine.

we usually go to the pool with the batch is in the washer/dryer

cycles are 30 minutes long

newer machines have a countdown timer for completion.

never had any issue with liqui-tabs (we use tide pods) in the checked luggage, as long as they're in a sealed bag like a ziplock bag, and carefully placed between layers of clothes

I've used the machines at OKW and All star movies many times. 30 mins to wash, 30 mins to dry.

I've always left the washing and grabbed a drink and sat by the pool or browsed the gift shop.

Enjoy a bit of peace and quiet on my own.

I always opt for the middle option on the washing machine - warm and separate whites and colours - never had a disaster!

There is a change machine - machines take quarters (OKW is free)

The laundry facilities at AKL are posh!!!! They have a really nice lounge room next to them with comfy chairs and a TV. They didn't even have that at the Beach Club!!!! If you overfill the dryers they take longer than 30 minutes, best to use more than one than overfill them. At AKL the washers are top loaders with 3 maybe 4 basic settings. The dryers are front loaders with I think only two settings. There is a laundry just to side of the food court so you can put your washing in and then go and eat or go to the pool/pool bar.

As I mentioned in another post, the laundry facilities at POFQ now only take credit or debit cards, Pop is still cash, but if you use a UK Debit or Credit card you'll get charged the standard bank fees. This is a stupid move by Disney. Anyway, get a pre paid card, which is recommended anyway and use that and you'll avoid the charges. I only know that POFQ has that system, but, I doubt if it's the only one, so be aware.

No charges using a PO credit card at POFQ as it's a service you are paying for not a cash withdrawal. Worked well I found and saved looking for coins.

POR was still cash in November.

We always take a dual tab (soap and fabric conditioner from Aldi) in our suitcase and they work well. I quite enjoy our 'wash' evenings. Bung a load or two in late at night and go swimming in the quiet pool until its done. Its certainly the most enjoyable way to do the washing ever!:goodvibes

Have used machines at ASSp, POR and SSR. Found them all very similar, but SSR's were free!

Machines were big commercial laundry ones, mostly top loaders but there were some front loaders. Easy enough to figure out, although the spin performance was a little poor. Got a load of washing washed and tumble dried in less than two hours though.

I'm booked into ASSp next time around. Think I may "pool hop" with my laundry to the congress park pool (about a 10 minute walk from DTD.) That's if I'm feeling cheeky enough!

Thanks for the tips - gonna be using laundry facilities at AoA for first time (first time on site). My DD and I have sensitive skin so usually use sensitive non-bio liquid, which i will put some in a travel bottle and hope for the best. Never done laundry on hols before but see the logic now, don't have to pack as much :thumbsup2
