Laundry facilities on the Wonder

Anyone know if they were replaced or maybe repaired properly? In June half didn't work and the ones that did, did not work well. Took 3 cycles to dry one average sized load. Guest services said they got constant complaints about this.

In May 2015, it took me 3 loads to get my laundry rinsed and I used the HE soap...I am guessing the person before us did not. Ugh. Drying was also a challenge, but I just line dry-finished everything.

I have done laundry on each of our trips on the Dream and Fantasy. I bring an allergy-friendly liquid HE detergent from home and a measuring spoon and use one TEASOON of detergent with a load.

When I do laundry on board I do the following:
- put two pool towels in and run them through a full cycle with no detergent (they then go in the dryer I will use and get dried)
- do one cycle of our clothes with 1 teaspoon of HE liquid detergent
- do two or three additional cycles of water only to rinse out all the detergent
- repeat two steps if have to do another load of clothes (since the washers are TINY)

For the dryer I have been fortunate and I only recall once that one cycle wasn't enough. though there may be a couple items in a load that did not dry as well as the rest and get air dried.

At $2 each cycle, this rapidly gets pretty pricey; but still cheaper than a third checked bag to bring enough clothes that washing was not needed.

The first time I did laundry I used an HE "pod". WOW talk about suds... did not repeat that mistake :-)

OP - I hope you find an answer. One thing I noticed during the hours of doing laundry is that many people filled the washer way too full - they fill it with what may be a normal load at home, but with those small washers is too much. I wonder if they dryers likewise, though they don't look AS small, if perhaps they are powered for the "proper" small loads and then have trouble with larger loads or double loads (two washerfuls in one dryer) ?

I was on December 2-9 cruise on the Wonder and used the laundry on deck 2. They were not replaced. Only 1 dryer with out of order sign and 1 washer with the facing about to fall off. Still took forever to dry. I had issues with it not crediting all the time paid for. It would give me 17 minutes one time and 45 the next. And yes same settings.

I used a pod...I wonder if that was my problem?! Ive never had an issue with them before (I use them when we travel)

More than likely. I did a ton of research before out Alaska cruise (since we were gone almost two weeks, and new laundry was a must), and there were many suggestions to use liquid detergent and a small amount. That is what we did, and once we found a free washer, we didn't have any problems.

Ugh, why didn't they fix this known problem during dry dock?

Thanks!

I used the laundry on deck 6 in July with pods & had no issues & all the machines were in working order throughout the week (I was in there a couple of times). Hope that helps ☺

Wow, I and here I thought it was just us! We had to run our stuff through three dryer cycles in August. It was a mess. My husband ended up missing out on some activities one day because he was baby sitting the dryer!

I discovered that doing laundry overnight can be a good way to do it, if you are willing to miss out on or have disrupted sleep. I set my smartphone timer for a few minutes before the cycle will end and then go rescue it/start a rinse cycle/whatever. It also is a great time to wander the ship taking pictures and exploring with almost nobody around (a few CMs are) -- I have gotten some really ncie pictures this way -- and doing that while waiting for a load of laundry to finish is a good way to pass the time.

Obviously not an option for everyone, but may be a solution for some.

Too bad they didn't fix/update the laundry! We were on Magic post dry dock in 2015 and had great experience with using the deck 2 laundry. However, we chose to send our heavy items through the laundry pay-per-item service and they came back great! For us, these heavier items were our pants/jeans, including a pair of white jeans my 8yo wore and apparently found all the dirt possible with one wearing- but these came back perfectly white!

The washers and driers worked well, but we purchased liquid Tide packs for HE (I think), and used one liquid pack for 2-3 loads. There was usually powder residue in the detergent drawer in the machines, so that added to the detergent amount. Also, that residue is a reason for someone allergic to do a pre-load of towels to get the machine rinsed out of most/all residue.

I found that the perfect size load was what would fit in the laundry bag in the closets of the cabin. I know it seems small but as others have said, too many pieces and it doesn't all get clean and I get those $1 size tide packets from the Target travel section and use half of that for one load. I've not had a problem with suds following both those rules. Good luck! We went to Alaska in all carry ons so laundry was a must!
