Laundry etiquette

Probably. But someone's belongings is still someone else's items. I don't care if you like touching my items or not. I'm saying is you can personally be held liable for damage or what not. Your choice. Love how people get so upset and always think they are right. Do so at your own risk.

I guess this is a risk I'm willing to take.

Clearly why it was said that you should not touch it. It's not abandoned. It's in a washing machine. That's why I suggest staff handle the situation. All these high and mighty... Funny, acting like they are the authority on the subject. It's done so this and that. I just expressed what I would do and will do if I needed to. I would easily do the same as you depending on the circumstances. But I'm a man and can take my licks. Don't get upset if you get told off for touching other people's things thongs or what not.

I hear ya. I'm not high and mighty. I'm 5'0 and weigh a whole bunch of weak 126 lbs. (I gained some weight from attending Stage Coach this last week end.) It's just that when I told Mr. PizzieDuster, Esq. he giggled too. Wishes he was representing Disney. Me too! Momma needs a new cruise! Totally understand your comment about don't get upset if you get told off. I wouldn't. I would giggle. But I'm sick like that. I laugh at everything. Drives my teen nuts. Good for the soul though. I agree with telling staff. After all the other stuff they have to do, they'll get right on it as soon as the buzzer goes off.

I'm not an authority on the subject - at all. Mr. PizzieDuster would be out of business if people didn't sue. I would then have to get a JOB! If it makes you feel any better, he fired me 16 years ago. He wanted to stay married. ;) I think I rolled my eyes and giggled too much. :) Back to doing the laundry (love the irony of that). Take care.

Ya, almost as silly as commenting on oreos. Not the same, but close. Please, no one start another thread about chair hogs. ;)

On cruises, we end up doing laundry once a cruise. A couple of times, I moved peoples clothes from the drying machine when the cycle was done and it was just left there, practically abandoned by them. No big deal, and to my knowledge no one called the cops.

B) if I was allergic or sensitive to dryer sheets ect, I would either not wash my clothes onboard or stay on top of it.

Agree. I get eczema from scented laundry detergents/dryer sheets. These chemicals linger in community machines. If you don't clean them properly before using them it won't matter if you use your own products or not...they will still end up on your clothes. I'll be washing when I return home leave the ship for this reason.

And, if they have things that shouldn't be dried, they are more likely to be on top of their laundry to hang those things before the wrinkle. Drying them for that person was definitely a little added grace in their day. And, if it wasnt, they'll definitely be sure to remember their laundry next time. Either way, I say you did the right thing.

Agree to disagree. We are all like minded when it comes for our love for Disney in general. The topic was brought up and no matter how you go about it. Someone will always be upset. The person waiting longer, the person that moved someone's personal belongings or what not. It was nice that someone helped someone. which is why dis boards has such valuable info. Some good ideas and some warnings have been placed on what could or shouldn't happen. I personally appreciate the incite that was provided. It made it very entertaining for me to see the responses.

Tampering with anyone's personal items is still not right. You could personally be held liable. Even with the most good intentions, tampering can include moving to a dryer and not starting, touching in general, drying, drying wrong from what is your standard, placing on a folding table (Could be dirty, causing clean clothes to now be dirty.) This is all Devils Advocate here.

Best course would be to call guest services. Let an employee of Disney take care of the situation. Let it be up to the company and customer to work it out. You may have given 15 minutes because that's what you think it should be. People are on Vacation!

Held liable for WHAT exactly? Moving someone's clothes out of a washer or dryer and simply putting them on a table cannot in any way ruin them.

When you use a public washer or dryer, you are renting it for a specified amount of time. When that time is up, your clothes get evicted. It's up to you if you want to do the eviction and remove them yourself. Alternatively, someone else can do it for you.

I have zero...ZERO...problem whatsoever removing someone else's items from the washer and dryer and putting them in a pile. Your time is up when your time is up. When I do laundry in a public facility, I set a timer on my phone for five minutes BEFORE the cycle ends so I actually arrive BEFORE the washer or dryer cycle is up.

I have removed other people's items from the washers and dryers more than once and will continue to do so unapologetically. Clearly the people leaving all their stuff hanging around have never lived in a communal living space or in densely crowded city using public facilities.

As an aside, I generally try to avoid this problem by doing laundry once in the middle of the cruise rather than waiting til the end.

Eviction can not be done by someone other than Disney as they are renting the space from them. You doing so allows liability on your side. I guess people can't read and see that Disney should be called and allow Disney to take care of. By the way. It usually takes someone 30 days before they are "evicted" even squatters have rights. Lol

Liability for what? Touching clothes does not damage them.

Squatters have rights. Laundry does not.

I would not have put them in the dryer, but would have taken them out of the washer and neatly stacked them somewhere reasonable (back on top of the washer).

I spent a lot of years of my life in living in a dorm with similar laundry rooms and everyone seemed to know that this was the way to do it. No one ever seemed to get upset about it either way.

Hahahahah. If you only knew. I'm going to chalk this up to people or reading all the posts and making a deal out of an opinion that you may not agree with. Some of you have been nothing but defensive after I have clearly said each their own. I truly hope you continue touching things that are not yours. If that's the case.

ROFLOL!
Thank you for that! Your own denial of the laws and procedures you work by not being law on the ship and accusing others of being defensive has given me a very good laugh tonite! Thank you!
