I know that I read that there is a single use box of laundry detergent in the villas. I am not planning to do a lot of laundry while there , but maybe more than one load! Is it worth it to bring some from home or can it be purchased easily at the resort? I am not planning on using the grocery service, since we are on the DDP. We are staying at SSR! Thanks.

I just bring my liquid Tide from home. But you can purchase more at the community store.

Any resort that has studios will have some sort of common laundry area and they will also have detergent vending machines. Plus I think the supply shop in each resort will carry detergent in little bigger containers. Don't know the cost of either choice. :)

Pricey. But they do have it. Also, at SSR the distance to the store may not be convienent to go grab detergent.

We usually pack some. Target was carrying little mini bottles of Tide for a while - my Seventh Gen detergent is so concentrated (liquid), I only need a little per load and could throw some in an old (washed out) shampoo bottle and have enough for a lot of laundry. When we use powder, I throw some of that in a tupperware and that in a ziploc.

Are the DVC washers top loaders or front loaders? If front loaders, do they require HE detergent or just regular?

OT: In general, can you use HE detergent in a top loader (or a non-HE front loader for that matter)? (I know you can't use reg det in a front loader that requires HE.)

Reason I am asking is we just got a new washer at home that requires HE detergent. But I do have regular detergent (both liquid and powder) left over from my old top loader.

i'm not a fan of powder detergent but I'll pick up a small box ($2), measure one serving into a Ziplock bag, and repeat depending on how many loads I think I'm going to do. Then I take all of those little bags and put them in one bigger Ziplock bag.

I always wondered what a luggage inspector will think if they open my luggage!! :rotfl2: lots of little baggie filled with white powder.... ;)

Target sells single use liquid Tide as well - in the travel size/sample section.

Thanks for all of the ideas. I usually use liquid at home, but may pick up some powder and do the ziplock routine. Then I won't have to worry about shopping for it down there. I was thinking of that as a possiblity anyways, but also wondered about a luggage inspector and didn't want to dream of a problem.....

Most of them are top loaders. However, I've heard that AKV has some front loaders that require HE.

We just stayed in an AKV concierge room that had a top loader washer.

Okay, I realize I should have been more specific. Sorry about that! What I meant was the washers in the DVC laundry rooms that the studios use, not the machines in the 1-2-3 bedroom villas.

I've used top loaders at BWV, BCV, SSR, but haven't washed clothes in the studio laundry at AKV.
