Liquid. It's easier to find on sale and easier to store in bulk. (I stockpile just about everything when it's cheap so I don't run out when it's not ;)

But to be honest I think powder cleans better. I stopped using it because it's harder to store long term and if you aren't careful with using too much it leaves residue in the clothes that makes you itchy. So now I use liquid with some stain pre treater.

I personally prefer liquid detergents. I've used powder as well, but have found it difficult to find for HE machines.:confused3 As for brand, I usually will get whatever is on sale for HE. I too have been surprised with Purex, had a coupon so I tried it and it worked well.

Plumber told me to quit the powders also because of the septic system -
But for clean clothes You really can't beat the powder Tide with bleach
I have been useing the nice smelling Tide liquids for the last few months
but I really don't think it does as good of a job exspecially on the kids work out stuff
and work clothes !
Has anybody used that fights the dingy stuff?

I use powder tide, first off because I seem to be allergic to anything else I have ever tried and after once of having raw skin head to toe, you just do not chance trying something new. I do however put my tide in the washer and start the water first, let is aggitate a couple of times then add the clothes. I will use liquid tide when doing laundry at WDW, just because I could get the sample size. Not sure I want to try liquid for the long term because of allergies, short term I know I am ok.

When I used powder I'd start the washer on hot water then gradually add the powder so it would start dissolving. Then I'd switch to whatever water temperture I actually needed. I wouldnt add the cloths until the water was finished filling.

Now I usually only buy the liquid as I've found some great deals. This week CVS has the Xtra liquid for only $1.99. I won't use it on everything but I see no reason to use expensive brands to wash the dog towels, garage towels, or even our bath towels.
