Latest Dog rules/regs

This A.M. DW was checking in for our final 10 days which was on a separate ressie and mentioned a gent across from us a few days ago that had two dogs in a canvas sided POP-UP. And the CM said they were now allowing pets in hard topped, but soft sided trailers. They are still forbidden in tents and the rules you sign says they can't be in either, but evidently the rules have been relaxed some. Makes for some noisy sites when you have a yelper/howler in a canvas sided trailer.

I'd heard from someone on the DIS that the reason for the rule in the first place was because it's possible for a pet to actually get OUT of a tent/popup, and that it had happened before.

If that's really the case, you gotta wonder if it's really an issue of Disney not wanting to be bothered to enforce the rules and make all those tent/popup campers kennel their dogs?

Last year our neighbors (in a popup) kept their 2 dogs crated outside all day while they were gone. I actually saw a CM stop and look, then drive away. The situation didn't change at all for the rest of the time they were there, so I'm assuming no one said anything to them. Maybe because they were quiet during the day... however they slept out in the crates too and did bark more than a few times in the middle of the night (probably at a visiting bunny).

Aside from the noise issue (ugh) my other serious concern would be that it's difficult to adequately keep a tent/popup cool in extreme temperatures.

The dog howled the entire time they were gone, it would settle down every now and then but as soon as someone would walk by it would hear them and start again. Sadly the owners were not very well trained humans and the dog was mistreated.

We've had several of these types this trip one real howler in a MH where they left a window open and a couple of yelpers in the tent trailer. We tend to spend more time in the trailer just vegging since we're here for so long and it's unfortunate when the weather is as nice as it's been not to be able to open up all the windows because of the noise.

this sounds like a case where the dog probably WISHES he was left behind and not taken on vacation. if i ever witnessed any type of physical abuse, i would be calling the police.

i wonder if they're allowing this cause maybe kennels are full right now?

Two trips ago ( it was in Sept) in the 300 loop there were two dogs tied to a tree. They were there all day everyday. I was so heartbroken. It really tore me up watching those two pups unable to move around more than a few feet! The rope was only a few feet long. Why do people bring their pets if they are going to torture them????

Seeing dogs tied up really upsets me..... you see.....our newest pup Callie was rescued and had also endured the same kind of abuse...... I found out that her pervious owners also tied her to a tree for a full year! Then they moved out of the house and left her there to die! WEll, she chewed the rope and eventually escaped......We heard the story about her on the internet (the French Bulldog rescue Website) and were so saddened by the abuse that we decided to adopt her and give her a new life......so we rescued her back in SEptember! Jim drove 18 hours to Texas from Florida to pick her up!

worse then these today i saw a yellow lab in a crate sitting in a persons front yard mind you it was only around 34 plus with wind chill more like 26 he was there for at least 4 hrs and had NO water or food the poor dog barely had room to stand i called the police and they were going to send out animal control to check it out it was tearing me up i wanted to go over and open the door and take him home with me

Wow, I can't believe Disney allowed that to happen!!

I know people who left their dog tied out to their MH once and when they came back they had a note that he must be kept either in the MH or kenneled. He wasn't bothering anyone or barking, but I'm sure someone saw a huge German Shepherd "standing guard" and reported it to the front desk.

I actively volunteer for a rescue group and I'd definitely encourage people to report that kind of thing. I know many towns/communities don't have any rules when it comes to tying dogs out (although thankfully there are some in the works!) but it should absolutely not be allowed to fly at FW.

I got fed up with seeing it, so i went over and TOOK THE DOG and left a note where they could find her. while i was waiting for them, i went on a cocker rescue message board, we gathered up donations and i BOUGHT her from him! he was MORE than glad to get rid of her! to this day, i wish i'd kept her but i already had my two cockers so we drove to breezewood, PA a few hours away and met up with the cocker rescue people who do such wonderful work and she was placed in a carefully screened and loving home! they renamed her Bella Donna after me! I will never forget that little girl and I miss her so much.

me too! I've a big heart when it somes to animals! I adopted a Horse sight un seen and he turned out to be the most Beautiful horse I'd ever seen! Also adopted my oldest dog and I had a weak moment at the flea market and found my second dog ( I can't go back there again).One of my customers gave me Maggie she's the GR in the picture. I can't stand to see an animal miss treated!

What a great group! Both our dogs are rescues as well. If you happen to see a couple walking around with 2 border collies between 11/30-12/19 - be sure to say "hi."

People who have no more consideration for there pets then that shouldn't even have pets. I would be scared to death that they would get out and get injured or scared and run off never to be seen again since they are in unfamiliar places. What is wrong with people???? People should have more sense then this.

I agree with another poster. If I saw such actions I would be calling animal control or somebody.

Great story. Good for you. Too bad there aren't more people in the world like that. I would have done the same thing.

There is no excuse in people treating their animals this way. They should have the same things done to them that they do to animals then maybe people would think twice before hurting an innocent animal.

LOL, i was thinking about this and i wanted to clarify so people don't think i go around stealing dogs, lol. When I did this, it was middle of November, very cold, rain/snow, etc. I had watched this dog go through an entire HOT and HUMID summer with no water and sometimes no food. I went over there daily and provided water and food/treats cause she was skinny. I said to myself once it gets cold and she is still out night and day (i could hear her crying as i lay in bed!), then i am taking her. My husband said what if you get arrested. I said, well, then so be it, i have good story to tell!
An update on Bella Donna, the home that she was released to ended up being the best friend of head of the Cockers in Need Rescue group. This friend of hers owns a pet supply store and grooming salon so Bella Donna gets the run of the salon and all the treats she can eat!

Wow that's quite a rescue story and bless your heart for doing it. I just adore the French Bulldog breed and it lifts my heart to know that Callie is in your care.

If you're next to a "Yelper" and can't "Helper", get on the phone and call the front desk. You can do it for free from any comfort station. If a CM doesn't come & rectify the situation in say....20-30 minutes, call again!!! Keep calling them until something is done. Better yet, get real close to the howler, call the front desk from your cell phone & when the front desk answers, turn your cell phone in the direction of the noise (better yet - try and get as close to the dogs as you can), then holler into your phone...."Can You Hear Me Now?"

If no one complains about barking or howling dogs, Disney thinks everything is hunky-dory.

The same goes for the companies that are allowed to come into the Fort & pressure wash. If you don't like the noise, then make some noise of your own.....at the front desk!!!

If enough people complain, Disney will eventually take care of it.

Very well said. if you don't like something, you need to say something.

i don't think it will be a big deal for most dog families. but, i am sure there will be 10-20% that will bark when their owners are gone. owners don't always know that it is happening. there are polite ways to tell them with out having to go through the front desk.

we had to learn how to leave our dogs in our new camper. we discovered they could see out the front window and they would go on the couch to look out the side window. so, after a couple trips we learned which shades need to be closed. the tv is always on to drown out any noise of dogs walking outside.

like i said some folks just don't realize it and maybe a person needs to tell them (in a polite way) so they can figure out what they need to do.
