We are driving from PA so not sure of our arrival time or even IF we will make it on our arrival date for sure, If we do not arrive on time will they "give" our room away? At the moment I don't have the date attached to the rest of our trip but we thought even if we don't get there in time to use the room that night that it would be a benefit to be able to use the room very early the next day rather than wait on the 4pm (or later) check in. If we do online check in will this take care of any issues that might arise by possibly not showing up on check-in day?

In May my friends had an OKW studio booked- they did not arrive until the second day of their DVC reservation due to flight changes. Might be worth a call to Member Services to note on your account, but they had no issue and liked having their room ready when they arrived early the next morning.

The rules do say you should notify them if there is going to be a delay.

So Just let them know that you might not arrive until the next day and there won’t be an issue.

I believe that since you currently have 2 reservations - the first night & then the rest of your trip, you could have to move - if your intent is to stay in the same villa for both reservations & not risk having to check out of the one day reservation at 11 a.m. & wait to check in at 4 p.m. for your second - rest of your trip reservation, you might want to merge them & just have it noted you’ll be arriving late that night or early the next morning.

Just realized this is more complicated than I thought. The studio I have for Dec 3 is a STD and the studio I have us in for 4-10 is a value. We have my son is in a STD Dec 4-10 so if I were to attach the Dec 3 STD onto his reservation AND he does online check-in, could we use that room (we have their magic bands which presumably should unlock the door) for the one night so we didn't have to check out and be "homeless" until our value is ready on the 4th? We have a waitlist in for a value but doubt it will come through before we have to cancel. In this scenario would it be best to add one of us to the son's reservation (we are all on the deed) and if so would that mess up any of our park and dining reservations as we are all connected via MDE? Thanks in advance for advice. It is so nice to have a group of people to be able to reach out to that are knowledgeable and helpful.

I would have all of you on the 3rd and have it merged with his.

Then just you on the value. The mornjng of the 4th just go down to front desk and have them remove you once your room is ready in the value..or your son is already there.

This way, there is no issue!

Why not change around the guests on the reservations? Make yourself on the STD reservation for 12/3-10 and your son on the 12/4-10 value reservation. That way the 12/3 can be merged to the standard 12/4-10 reservation and no one will be homeless or have to move around.

This makes the most sense to me. At a minimum someone who’s arriving that first night/early a.m. should be on that 12/3 reservation because every once in awhile you have to check in the old fashioned way, it doesn’t happen often, but occasionally they want you to - I recall having to swing by the front desk once because they needed to update my cc on file & once because my text notifications assigned me to 3 different villas before I arrived (first the 1 br. I had booked followed by a studio which I had not booked, then back to a 1 br. & finally directions to stop by the front desk.)

Would this have any impact on the magic bands/billing associated with the room? I thought of doing that initially but we want to take the value room for 4-10 so they have a better chance at a view with the std studio. I did merge the 12/3 std with my son's 12/4-12/10 std so that part is accomplished or soon will be in 5-7 business days.

Oh that would probably cause a problem with bands and billing as your bands and billing would be coded to the wrong room. Figured it would just be easiest to swap who uses the reservations but I guess if you want him in the standard that would not work.

Yeah that is what we figured too. We will have the magic bands attached to the rooms so I think we will be able to access the std for the night of the 3rd if we do online check-in and advise them of a late arrival and then just move to our value on the 4th when it's ready. Who knows maybe a miracle will happen and our value waitlist will come through in the next couple days and make this all a moot point! Thank you all for your suggestions

You will need to visit the front desk the day of the 4th to make sure you are checked out to the Std and only be on the value. If not, you may very well have MB issues.

We split stay all the time and this just ensures we don’t have them when we get to the room!

Thank you! As "luck" would have it our waitlist on the value studio came through yesterday which we could easily have merged with our value studio however we already started the process on Thursday to have the standard studio merged with one of our standard studio reservations, hopeful that perhaps they can stop that for us as it hasn't shown up yet as merged for us to modify. Will be calling or chatting with MS today.

Do people still "check in" at the front desk? We haven't for years. Online check in, you get a text when the room is ready. Disney wouldn't even know if you are there unless they were actively running reports on magic band swipes to see who has opened room doors.

I always stop if we haven’t gotten the text to let them know we are there and want first available and would take one if ready.

But, they do track scans in the magic bands. I had renters not show up after two days in 2020 and they did indeed cancel the room.

It also states in our Home Rules and Regulations that one should be notifying DVC or Disney to let them know you are arriving late so they do expect us to notify them of late arrivals.

And by track, I suspect the system just reports on units that have not been accessed by guest key in 24 hours. Good to be aware if a guest didn't show up or if a guest overdosed in the tub, whatever.

We still check in at the desk ... being newer owners we still find value in hearing "Welcome Home"
