Late night swimming and noise

We have been to DW and stayed in several of the Disney resorts. We usually go for a late night swim a few times during our stay. This is a family vacation so I like to do things as a family. Our kids are 17 & 18 now so they should know how to act but... They are still kids. WE all go to the pool and cool off and relax before heading back to our room for the night. We are on vacation and we don't get up at the crack of dawn for any reason. I have seen other folks enjoying the quiet pools at the early morning hours and I do think it is a great idea for the early birds. I have never wanted to stay near the pool because of the noise. I love being in DW but I think depending on the time of year you go you need to find something to do at night. When you have teens many times the biological clock doesn't get going untill 10 PM and then all the parks are closed. The pool is the only place to be some of the time. We have never had an issue with the rooms noise except at the BC and that was just the kids running happily down the hall to the elevator. As long as it isn't every morning I don't think its a problem. Some families are just louder than others. Tolerance is a virtue right.

Interesting discussion!

I know some people here have been on 'western coast time' but we're on European time (5 hours ahead) so we're ready to be tucked up in bed at 8.30pm! (Mind you we're awake at about 3.30am!)

Just goes to show there probably are people awake 24 hours a day and we ALL need to show a little consideration! (I know - too much to hope for! )

I don't object to responsible parents like the original poster having her family enjoy late nights at poolside. I just use the rule of 10 PM closing to support my case as a parent, because I cannot effectively protect my kids.

Actually, the information given by those at the WL was not wrong. You may swim in the WL pools 24 hours a day, there just won't be a lifeguard there the entire time, the slide will be roped off, and you have to swim at your own risk. We all have difficult rules to enforce with our kids. No matter what the rules are at the resort, the parental rules take precidence, which is something that the child must respect. It is not up to the resort to change their rules for the benefit of the parent.

Our "quiet pool" at CBR had a midnight closing time, as did their main pool.

The pools at both Fort Wilderness and Contemporary were posted as being open 24 hours. There were separate lifeguard hours, though, I think until 10pm.

The way I see it is if you have decided to stay somewhere that has pool hours and rules, you have to adhere to them. If I was staying somewhere that the pool closed at 10pm and it was 12 and they were diturbing me I would call security. If you are concerned about having a 24 hour loud pool, find a hotel that has one. I know DaysInn Lakeside has a specific pool far away from any of the rooms that is open 24 hours.

We were in the Contemporary Tower in June (bay lake - pool view) when outrageously loud guests in the hot tub woke me up. I am not that light a sleeper. I would always wait for the MK view after that experience. I didn't call security, but I thought it was unacceptibly rude behaviour on the part of the adults down there. I think swimming in the wee hours is wonderful if you are absolutely quiet. OK, you can splash, but no loud laughing, screaming or yelling at 3am. If people can't be quiet, then I am all for the security guard closing the pool. It's not the guard's job to figure out who was quiet and who was noisy. If they get a complaint, they should give one warning, then close the pool.

Although security "closes" the pool it is never really closed. If anyone comes after security is gone then as far as they are concerned, it's open.

The only time there was an actual "closed" sign was during thunderstorms and they would put a sign at all entrances stating the pool was temporarily closed.

Happy Planning!!!
