We recently got Avis for one of our weekend trips (we usually get in around midnight on Friday), and we decided to try out the B side of the airport. Usually the line on the A side for Avis is minimal, as compared to droves of people at Alamo (who we also get frequently). We trooped over to B...Alamo was a crowd as usual, but Avis also had a larger line than usual. Judging from the luggage area, a few flights had just come in on B. We didn't feel like walking back to A, and there were four counter people, so we figured it wouldn't be too long. But then Avis "pulled an Alamo," and two out of the four left as soon as they were done serving their customers, despite the packed queue. This was the longest wait I've ever had with Avis. Happily, they didn't push the insurance and they have us a nice upgrade from an economy to an Old Alero, but the crowd surprised me. So be careful about what side you go to, and be aware that counter people bailing around midnight seems to be common.
We've got Hertz for our next weekend trip (we book through Priceline so it's always someone different), so we'll see how that goes. So far, Hertz has been great every time we've gotten them.
