My family is planning a large family vaction which includes ages from 7 to 62. This will be a first for some members. We are looking at dates for all and need to decide between Late May and Last August. I stuck. I seem to remember more rain in August but maybe shorter lines. Can anyone help me out!

May's average temp is 88 degrees, with lows in the mid to upper 60s. Average rainfall is 3.6". Some schools are out by the end of May, and Dis is still running the buy 4 get 3 free deal through June 26. So, I would expect it to be crowded.

August's average temp is 92 degrees, with lows in the low 70s. Average rainfall is 6.8". Most schools are back in session, and Dis usually starts to run the free dining plan. Lastly, though huricane season starts in June, it really starts to pick up in August. Just something to think about.

Best of luck planning. I think May would be a great time!!! The earlier in May you can plan, the better. :thumbsup2

August in Florida? Um, that's when Floridians go on vacation elsewhere, lol.

Totally agree. As a native floridian, you won't catch me anywhere near disney in august. I think May is your best option...less humidity and most kids are still in school. Usually our last trips until sept are taken then.

Have fun!!

:cheer2: I personally prefer May!, Having been both times of the year, I must say the weather is better, (not as hot!) and it rains a lot less! Remember, August is PRIME hurricaine season. Regardless, I'm sure y'all will have a great time just spending some quality time together, Have a great trip!:cheer2:

One year we had to go in August...the 19th was one of the dates, and it was horribly hot. This year, our family vacation is in May...the week before Memorial weekend.

Never been in August but I have been early/mid September and I will NEVER do that again. The ONLY things on my mind were how hot I was, how much I was sweating, where can I get into some air conditioning and where could I find some shade. Totally put a damper on my vacation as I literally enjoyed very little of it.

I was also there Memorial Weekend one year and the biggest issue was crowds which was expected. The heat was nowhere on my radar :)

Go in May - early May if you can.

We haven't been at the end of May but we have been there at the end of August. It was hot and humid, but we also had a nice afternoon rain shower that cooled everything off nicely. We did a lot of evening EMH, and drank a lot of water.

Sure it was hot, and I did sweat, but I didn't think it was anything worse than a humid Michigan summer. We still got to ride all of the rides we wanted, so we were happy. We're going again this year at the end of August because Labor Day isn't until September 7th. :)

Love bugs are out in May! If they bother you, go for August...

We've been both times and while nothing will keep me from accepting a trip to Disney at any time, love bug time is my all-time least favorite...August heat 'n humidity truly is horrific...but if you expect it, travel early or late and move around between a/c buildings and buses (or hang out in pools) it's tolerable...May weather is glorious, but those cursed love bugs do "bug" me, a lot! As noted, it wouldn't keep me from going if a chance to go in May came up...but if. like you, I'm choosing between two alternative times, I'd go for August and heat over May and love bugs! On the other hand, May arrives sooner than August and I'd always rather be at Disney...so maybe that's a reason to choose May!

We've gone a week (or two) before Memorial Day weekend the last two years and the weathers been great. Seems that mid-May is a great time as it's post-spring break and pre-summer. Warm enough to do anything (DS 5 loves both water parks) and not hot enough to prevent you from doing anything.

Years ago we had gone in late Sep/early Oct and the weather was also nice and crowds were low, however you do need to keep in mind that that is the tail end of Hurrican season.

I would hesitate going in August even if someone gave me a trip. Sweltering heat and huge crowds. We either go in either May or the fall. May is nice because it is warm and the crowds are not too crazy yet. You will have to deal with the crowds from the class trips, but they don't compare to June, July or August.

We've done both...twice....LOVED May, and we are doing that again this year. HATED the heat and humidity of late August and the rains both times...We WONT be doing that again!

I like seeing the Flower event in EPCOT during May.

We try to go mid month, done it a number of times.

We went once in August (early) and there were many tour groups. It was hot but it rained almost every day which causes drastic drops in temps. Rain also tends to clear out the parks so if you are prepared to continue in rain, you can have the parks to yourselves.

Columbia fishing gear clothes work well at WDW in August whether it rains or not. Not the most stylish, perhaps, but good at drying on the go.
