After the cruise we will be heading to MCO, I have rented a day room at the Hotel there and will be using the pool/relaxing until our 7:00 flight. My question is about our checked luggage. We will be using the DCL transfer from the ship to the airport. Do we have to get our luggage, or will our checked bags be waiting on us to claim when we arrive in Cincinnati?

Thanks!

If you have on board check in you will get your bags in skyline country. If you don't have on board checkin you will have to get your bags at the terminal. Than it will go on the same bus as you. Do on board checkin if you can. Only like 7 airlines that do on board checkin for DCL. enjoy your cruise. Sorry no skyline on board.

Yes, we will be doing on board check in. We are flying with Delta. And by skyline country are you speaking of the cincinnati chili? :)

I just did this on our May 13th cruise. We put our bags out in the hall during the indicated time on the sheet we received and did not see our bags until we arrived in Columbus, Ohio. Was a little nervous but it worked perfectly. It took us a while to get through security at MCO so leave enough time. We allowed for over 2 hours and they were really busy and we made it to our gate not long before boarding. We flew Delta as well.

Did you have a later flight? My fear is that since we will be dropped off so early and our flight is not until later that evening, will Delta or the airport hold our bags for that long?

We had a 4:35 flight. We left the Dream before 9 am in the morning. We did the DCL checking for our Delta flight. They picked up our luggage the night before and we did not see them until we arrived in Columbus, Ohio that evening. I believe DCL takes the luggage in time blocks to the airport. I did a dumb move and forgot to put my airline tags on my bags before we set them out. The next morning, I realized what I had done and they were able to locate my luggage and put the tags on them. They said it helped that I had a later flight because the early flights were already taken to the airport.

As long as you are taking one of the participating airlines and your flight is after 11:30 and you have purchased DCL transfers from the port to MCO you can do the OAC (Onboard Airline Check In). They will either hold your bags until your flight or send the bags ahead on an earlier flight to be waiting for you at your home airport. We have had it done both ways. Just make sure you keep out what you will need overnight and during your day before your flight: documents, medications, some toiletries, valuables, etc.

This is NOT an issue with onboard airline checkin.

As individuals we could not check bags (speaking in generalities, with "we" meaning "all of us", not just me) on our own that early. Airlines make all of us wait until 3, maybe 4, hours from our flights.

But with this service, it's allowed. Don't worry. That's the whole point of using it, for many of us.

Though when we have a later flight and use DCL transport and onboard airline checkin, we get to the airport and rent a car, and go to Universal. I'd be bored out of my skull at the MCO Hyatt all day. But we keep Universal APs, so it's easy.

Renting a car might be an idea. Thanks!
