Does anyone know how/when to request a late checkout??

My daughter & her family have a 4:30PM flight, and it would be much easier with the kids (3 + 1) if we could keep the cabin later than 11AM -- I've heard somewhere that you can request an extension till 1:00. Is that true? Also, has anyone stayed even later (maybe paying for a partial day)??

I know at CBR last year we requested late checkout (1:00) and they granted it to us fee free.....our party had 3 rooms total but we were only able to keep 1 for the extra 2 hours.

It seems to depend on the resort and how crowded it is (and sometimes, I think it's the CM's mood). We ask if a late check out would be possible when we check in (it would be OK to mention the small children and the 4:30 flight). Usually, we're told to ask the day before check out. The longest that we were ever allowed to stay without an extra charge was 2 hours (until 1 PM).

Good luck --- it's definitely worth asking. And if there isn't a good response, ask again on check out day.

We request a late check out on every trip and it has always been granted. We usually ask for 1:00, but only get 12:00 at the all stars and Dixie. We have gotten 1:00 at the AKL. I believe anything later would require paying for an extra day. I believe it never hurts to ask, they can only tell you no.

I believe it depends on how crowded a resort is. I just returned from the AKL and requested and received a later check out, but it was only until 12:00. They said it couldn't be any later, since my room was going to be occupied by someone else that day. If you need to stay any later than 1:00, I've heard you can request that, but they usually charge you 50% of the full rack rate, and it is also based on availabiility.

Hi Kathleen,
You mentioned "cabin" so I'm presuming you will be in a FW cabin. It's my understanding that they don't give extended check out time at the home away from home facilities as there is more housekeeping required to get them ready for the next guest. I know for sure they don't grant extensions in the DVC resorts. But as others have said, it doesn't hurt to ask. It seems that very few rules are written in stone at WDW. Good luck.

Aprille's Mom:

You're right--I just called FW, and they don't give late checkouts "for love or money"....The girl I spoke with said they used to, but it caused so many problems getting the sites/cabins cleaned, that they stopped it.
Oh, well---on to Plan B---

We were given a late check out for free (1pm) at the Swan last week-it really does help.

Another post confirming AprillesMom's post. None of the Home-Away-From-Home resorts (FW, OKW, BWV, BCV, VWL) offer late check outs (complimentary or paid). Too hard for housekeeping to clean all the units in time for the 4:00 p.m. check in times as it is.
