Late 70's early 80's girls

You know, Vermont Country Store, the catalog company, has a whole schtick of locating old brands people are nostalgic for. They already have some of the shampoos and perfumes from this time frame. I bet if a bunch of people wanted the lip balms back, they'd put it in their catalog. Not that they're cheap about it, though.

I seem to remember a store called "County Seat" that sold Levi's jeans and cords. Speaking of cords, I remember having a pair of baby blue Levi's cords, which I wore with a baby blue turtleneck and a navy blue sweater. ;)

Once I hit junior high, it was all about the designer jeans, like Jordache and Sasoon and Gloria Vanderbuilt. We also wore fair isle sweaters with turtlenecks, plaid shirts with the collar buttoned up and a ribbon bow (who created that style and what were they thinking??) And I do remember the iron on transfer shirts. I had one that said "One Wild and Crazy Gal"! LOL We used to get the baseball sleeve shirts too, and get our names ironed on the back, or down one sleeve. ETA: Kilts, with knee socks and penny loafers. I had the whole navy blue/green preppy thing going on, with a fair isle sweater and a turtleneck!

And you weren't anybody if you didn't have Nike sneakers. I can remember DYING for a pair of white leather ones with a red swoosh. I was in 6th grade, and my parents wouldn't buy them for me until my Thom McCann's wore out. I did everything in my power to mutilate those suckers! :lmao: By the time I got my Nikes, EVERYBODY had them. :sad2:

I was trying to remember the name County Seat. We had those too. Yes, the Levi's cords in a rainbow of colors. The white leather Nike's too. We were watching Forrest Gump a few weeks ago and he had those on. Dh and I started laughing.

Holy smokes, THANKS for letting me in on this unknown secret(to me, anyway)!

I can't believe the things they have that I haven't seen(used) in years.

I want at least half of their perfumes and a lot of their hair care products.

I'm afraid to look completely through their site as my wish list will be a mile long!

Does anyone remember these two shampoos: Body on Tap (with Beer in it :scared1:) and Agree? I loved them both.

I loved the Lemon UP too. I forgot about many of those products they have at the Vermont Country Store :lmao:.

Darn, I checked and they don't have the Lip Smacker lip balms in the tin. I'll totally ask for them, though!!

I loved Agree. There was a time in Jr. High when all of the girls in my class smelled like Agree. We would leave a bit of conditioner in to prolong the smell. My father and I had major battles because I wanted to wash my hair in the am. We were a family of 6 with one bathroom. In retrospect I can see how difficult I was.

I'm not seeing the pic; is it a general one of the Miami Vice-ish ensembles that were so popular? I remember being on vacation in Hawaii when I was about 12-13 (1985-ish) or so and going to Baskin Robbins one night (I think that's where it was)--they had a flavor or combo of flavors that they called Miami Ice. It was pale pink and green ice cream, if I'm remembering correctly.
Odd that the pic isn't showing up.

Yes it shows Don Johnson in white pants and white t-shirt with a cream colored linen jacket. I love the Miami Ice flavor. :thumbsup2

I liked Agree, too. How about Flex? Anyone remember that shampoo and conditioner? Stiff Stuff and Bold Hold were awesome for the big hair days. How about those little hair clip cones for a genie-ish pony tail. I couldn't wear them (see earlier post about banana clips) but I wanted to!

TOTALLY AWESOME thread! I can relate to so much of this stuff. My BF and I used to walk to this store called "Rainbow" and buy the biggest cheesiest earrings. I actually still have a pair--Right ear says "I want my" and Left ear is a big "MTV"!!!!!

If it's the store I'm thinking of, they are still around. There is one in my town.

Just filled out the "Suggest a Product" form for the VT Country Store. Unfortunately, I found out that the company who made those lip balms originally is out of business (and I guess has been for some time).

Fun looking at all the old hair products! I remember Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific. Also use to use Flex, and Alberto Ballsam. Gosh, I loved that smell. Wish I could buy some today.

Anyone remember using baby oil when laying out? SPF? What's that?

I had forgotten all about that balsam shampoo til you mentioned it, and now it's like I can totally smell it! I remember using it when I was probably 7-8 or so after swim practice, so the smell's a little chlorine-tainted. But yeah, I remember the shape of the bottle, the golden amber color of the shampoo... I love nostalgia.

ETA: That reminded me of something else...did anyone else have the shoelaces that had sayings on them? I didn't, but I have this vivid memory of being at the pool in the summer, smelling the suntan lotion that always smelled like coconut macaroons, and seeing an older girl who had shoelaces that said "I ♥ General Hospital" on them. I thought she was so cool.

Anyone remember color toilet paper? Usually in pastel colors. And then there was also white tp with small floral prints. :lmao:

My mom had an eyelash comb because mascara was so clumpy back then, you had to comb it out after you applied it.

Love this thread!!!

I need help though! DS13 is having 80's day on Friday for an 8th grade fundraiser. I need to pick a theme for him to dress up. The kids picked the theme and they have no idea what people even wore in the 80's!

Too bad your DS13 isn't a DD13, I could probably send her some authentic 80's clothing! :rotfl2:

I just remember the preppy look (early 70's), followed by the flash dance look. But I honestly don't remember what the guys were wearing. I remember a lot of plaid shirts that the guys were wearing, but that's the only thing that comes to mind.

All the girls have it easy! The styles are coming back.

We are thinking of going along the lines of Duckie from Pretty in Pink. Or DH's look of skinny jeans, a purple shirt and a skinny tie.

Or do we go the punk route? And wasn't grunge late 80's or more early 90's?
