I know there have been several threads on the subject but I haven't really found what I need. I usually just pay for the DCL insurance but misunderstood the castmember on the phone when she said I could add it until PIF (I thought she meant the PIF due date not when I paid in full. Oops). So now I need to find an outside company.

I've seen several people mention Allianz on here but when I pulled them up to look found a lot of complaints about them. So I'm curious if anyone has recently had positive experiences with them or if anyone knows of anything decent to look into. Our biggest concern is medical/getting back home in an emergency, since kids can be accident prone.

If I could make a suggestion - use one of the trip insurance comparison sites to sift through several options. Just Google "trip insurance comparison site". There a 2 or 3 big ones that you can use.

I had an Allianz claim a few years ago. I would use them again. If you buy, you have time to read the entire policy and get your money back if you don't like it.

If you only need medical check out Blue Cross Blue Shield Global Solutions (formerly known as GeoBlue.) Their premiums are very reasonable, especially for children. A $1 million policy with a zero deductible for a child costs about $22 for a week, but it varies a bit based on where you live. Note that it's only valid OUTSIDE of the U.S. and you must have primary insurance valid in the U.S. (for the Platinum plan, which covers pre-existing conditions.)

We had one small medical claim with BCBSGS in Kenya, which they paid promptly.

Their website says that they cover medical evacuations but check what the limitations are.

Wasn't clear whether the accident prone kids were traveling with you, or whether you're worried you might need to come home early due to an injury they encounter in the U.S. (BCBSGS won't be useful for the latter scenario.)

Thank you. I used InsureMyTrip and think I found a decent one. So I just have to choose between the two now. I'm look at iTravelInsured Travel SE, still considering the Allianz since we have another cruise within the year so could do an annual plan. This is probably the only thing that makes me wish I wasn't the only person who planned travel in the family

We are frequent travelers so have an Allianz annual plan. It was a godsend when my husband had a heart attack while in the Florida Keys. The contact lady was so kind and reassuring and the insurance paid promptly covering our unexpected expenses. I recommend them highly!

VGC, thanks for pointing this out. I just contacted bcbsgs and confirmed that they don't cover evacuation from ships...unless the ship is docked.
