Late 70's early 80's girls

I definitely remember the iron on tshirts. It was always something I looked forward to on family vacations to OC MD.

Ooh...I want some Tretorns again, too!
How about giant lip balms? Or those fruit flavored lip balms in the slider tins?
Plastic chain necklaces with charms like baby bottles, grapes, other random junk?
Swatch phones revolutionized sleepovers- the base could be lifted up as a second receiver. Prank calls were even better? Speaking of Swatches, wearing several at once? How about phones that looked like lips?

OMG, I had forgotten all about those, but I LOVED them when I was in grade school! I remember having strawberry and bubble gum flavored ones, for sure. I'd totally buy those again for nostalgia's sake if I could find them.

ETA: Can I just say that I LOVE that you can google image search darn near anything anytime you want an instant nostalgia trip?!

:)My 16 year old niece was singing "Open Arms" the other day and couldn't believe I knew all the words. Yeah, baby, that's me, your rockin' 41 yr old aunt.

That was my wedding son in 1992.

DH originally wanted that song for our wedding as well. But we changed it when we realized that by the time we got married, the song would be almost 20 years old

DH (40) graduated in 1988 and me, (soon to be 39 this summer) I graduated in 1990. We got married in 1999.

Was anyone guilty of going to the Arcade to play video games? There are so many times I wanted to play, buy my mom always said no. I finally got to go once I started dating DH when I was 16. Other than that, my only video game play was on the Atari 2600 (back when those cartridges used to cost $50 instead of $2 or less now-a-days). Arcades are now a thing of the past since practically everyone has a WII and/or Playstation in their homes.

I am loving this trip down memory lane! I had those lip balms, and my mom had a ton of those twister bead necklaces.

These were also HUGE when I was in jr. high...jelly shoes!

I had a pair of either white or clear (don't remember which). But after awhile they broke.

These were painful for me to wear. I simply could not wear them though I wanted to so badly.

I remember big feather earings, purses that had a compartment for ones cigarettes (I was not a smoker), and those crocheted skinny tubed scarf thingees.....can't remember what they were called.

I remember putting milk in my pepsi/cola because Laverne did it, and it was good!

Also remember watching Fantasy Island and Love Boat thinking that they were great programs.

ETA: I recently watched an old episode of One Day at a Time (on Hulu) just to see what they were wearing, because I use to think that the characters on that show had the best clothes.

The late 70's into the 80's had some really great shows on. CHiPs, Different Strokes, Gimme a Break, Facts of Life, Buck Rogers, Battlestar Galactica, Adam 12, Fame...I could go on and on :goodvibes

Dukes of Hazzard was probably my favorite show when I was under 12... I was so in love with whichever of the guys was the blond one. My parents knew that if they really needed to punish me for something (e.g. the time I was playing with the pony cart in the garage, acting like I was the pony, and then running the poles through the garage wall and into the dining room :scared1:), they shouldn't ground me from sleepovers or things like that--grounding me from the Dukes of Hazzard was FAR more devastating.

I also loved Larry on CHiPs. I think those two are the genesis of my lifelong fixation with blond men. :lovestruc

Mine stem mostly from 1983/84 or so.

Anyone remember break-dancing? Man, I couldn't wait for that phase to end. Now it's back and it's not as bad as I thought it was when I was 13.

That was "our" song. Me and the former BadBoy :rolleyes1 my DH still cringes when he hears it because he knows it still makes my heart go pitterpatter with the memories :lmao:

My DD 11, loves Journey.

Who mentioned the charm necklace? Those were a huge must have when I was in middle school (late 70's)

I actually had a Garbage Pail kids t-shirt- New Wave Dave!
Paper bag waist pants
tight, high- waisted overalls
silk shirts- tucked in the front, hanging out in the back
I wore jelly shoes and ankle boots with my Catholic school uniorm skirt. I also wore leg warmers. Sometimes, with the boots or jelly shoes. What a look!:rotfl2:

That was me. And since we're the same age, it was also while I was in grammar school -- 7th and 8th grade. I finally sold mine last year. My daughter had no interest; she thought it was ugly.
