I'm still driving myself crazy trying to nail down a DLR or WDW trip for 2019.

Flights from the East Coast to SNA are very reasonable right now for the end of August. My brother lives in Irvine so it would be a combined family/DLR trip.

The way the trip would work is it would give us Monday, August 26th and Tuesday, August 27th in the parks. I think we would get a two day hopper pass.

I understand with Star Wars opening everything is unpredictable - but what would be some "concerns" to think through? We would definitely purchase Maxpass.

THANKS!

It is highly likely that HM will be down during those dates for installation of the Halloween overlay. HM usually goes down sometime the third week of August for this and comes back up the first day of Halloween Time in September. DLR usually goes to non-peak/low season scheduling around the end of August. This means shorter hours, lower staffing, rides not running at full capacity, less entertainment, nighttime entertainment on weekends only (Fri., Sat., Sun.), etc. With SWGE in the mix, I'm not sure how that will affect the scheduling. Usually non-peak/low season also means more refurbs, but Disney seems to be doing most of the refurbs now before SWGE opens. Check the AP blockout calendar for your dates -- I think the lower passes will be allowed back into DL starting around that time. This will definitely affect the crowd patterns.

Oh, and keep checking here for updates on Mondays -- they've become pretty consistently busy days in the parks. Last summer, most Saturdays were much better than most Mondays! Tuesday and Wednesday would be better, I think.

What was/is the reason for higher crowds on Mondays. Was that more of a summer phenomenon?

No, it was year round and has continued into this year. See this recent thread: Monday 1/28 Was Today A Slow / Light Day?. Theories here attribute the trend to the common assumption that Mondays-will-be-low-crowds-because-the-weekends-are-crazy, non-peak ticket prices, school holidays, AP block lifts, etc.

Also, I do not want to discourage you at all but to educate you, based on AP blockouts lifting (https://disneyland.disney.go.com/passes/blockout-dates/), plus a little impact from the D23 Expo Aug 23-25, and all of this related to SWGE opening in June, it will be a perfect storm for crowds. I myself will be going the week before and I know it will be crowded but I am OK with that. Just be aware and be prepared and you will be fine! :thumbsup2

Hm - interesting for sure. Our hotel would be right near the convention center. I appreciate the info.
