Hey everyone

Just decided to go last week of august. Aside from the heat is there anything else going on during this time?lol

Any advice on the water parks? My kids will be 10 and 6 but aren't very adventurous. Tia!!!

Last week of August can be good except for the heat and the daily storms with lightning. ;)

I've never seen anything else of note going on during that week. Crowds are generally decent. No substantial amounts of tour groups or anything.

If you are planning on doing a waterpark, and it's a must-do for your kids, plan on doing it at opening. The weather gets unpredictable as the day goes on, especially with the lightning which shuts things down.

There have been quite a few posts about this week in the last few days. It will be incredibly hot and humid. Crowds are moderate. I think it will be very busy this year since school is starting late for many northern schools.

We went that same week in 2014...we were lucky and didn't get much rain. We left on the Tues after Labor Day since the 1st Halloween party of the year was on Labor Day. It was hot but I don't mind the heat..just bring lots of water or plan to buy some when you get there. As for the waterparks...we haven't coughed up the money for one yet. The kids love the resort pools and are more than happy with those. Plus, like you, one of my kids isn't adventurous either. Crowd levels this past Aug were probably around a 4. Just plan on an afternoon thunderstorm.:thumbsup2

thanks for your input guys much appreciated.

Im planning on heat and humidity, and hoping for low crowds

also hoping for some sort of late summer/early fall discount!!!!!!!:cool1:

glad to hear no big events to touring that week historically

we will do rope drop and evenings at park, mid day swimming and visiting other resorts.

hoping for a great trip!!!pixiedust:

August is a good time to visit with regard to lower crowds. The weather is not pleasant IMHO but its workable. Lower crowds =less time waiting in lines and (somewhat) easier ability to book ADRs. If you plan to do your touring during the "cooler" parts of the day, it is not as overwhelming. Spending a day at a water park is a nice break too.

We went the last week of August and it was great crowd wise but the heat was out of control lol. Super hot and humid. It's definitely doable tho :)

Yes, it is warm then but because the crowds are lower, you can easily spend most of your time indoors in AC or comfortably at an Uncrowded pool. We really enjoy that time of year.

Thank you so much for the encouragement regarding the darn heat and humidity!!!!!!!:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::umbrella:

I am hoping we can stand it!!!!!!! and i know we will spend a bunch of time at storm along bay!!!!!

Since you have Stormalong Bay, I'm not sure I would even venture to the water parks, but that's just me.

If you do keep the water parks, I think Blizzard Beach will have more choices for the non-adventurous. Typhoon Lagoon's wave pool is better, but it is also more dangerous. People can and do get knocked down by the wave and the bottom of the pool is very rough.

Just a thought ... if you are staying at Stormalong Bay, you already have your own little water park (especially if your children are not too adventurous as you mentioned). We stayed at BC a couple of summers ago and we loved the water slides (big slide for my teenage DD's and little slide for young nieces). There is also a lazy river and fabulous sand bottom. The kids wanted to stay in here all the time - we've been to the water parks before but they were having so much fun at SAB that they didn't want to go to a water park. Just a thought :)

Do you have the "Magical" deal? If not, you should seriously check it out! We are staying std view Poly the week before Labor Day for the same price as POR preferred with an estimated 20% discount. Really amazing deal and it includes a waterpark day. Just look for the August 2015 discount thread for more info. I lived/worked down in Orlando in the summer, and like others have said, the skies pretty much open up every afternoon and 'dump the ocean' on Orlando mixed with some heat lightening. It very hot/humid, but also lots of AC. Just be prepared with water, take breaks, etc.

We are going to try Typhoon Lagoon. Coming from MN now, we get enough snow in the winter, LOL. Just going for the total tropical vibe this trip to I guess? Up until recently I probably would have picked Blizzard Beach because my kids aren't super adventurous either and I had heard it has good tot areas, but DD6 is too tall for the little tot area now, so just ogling at the lazy river, a few slides, and the edge of the giant wave pool.

Also excited about the revamped Nanea pool that is coming to the Poly, resort days for sure. Have fun sat SAB and happy planning!

I was just going to say the same thing - we're going August 17-27 with a great deal at the Poly thanks to the "magical deal" - she also gave us a Beach Club price and it was even less.

^^ this. Also under the Disney Resorts thread there is a thread called Disney Discounts Codes and Rates thread. Then look for the August 2015 thread. Lots of hints, suggestions, etc. Many are taking advantage, basically they book a slew of deluxe rooms at a conference rate. Unfortunately we can't named the agency on DIS. ;)

ok TY so much. I will look this up. I am guessing this like booking through a third party,

I have never done that before, I always just call and book direct through disney

If I could ask a general question. How does a discount like this effect free dining?

Feeling clueless

TY for all of your advice everyone!!!!!!

I am booked at the Poly under the magical deal for the last week in August and I keep wanting to switch to BC for SAB. I am so torn! Monorail vs. amazing pool! We'd probably spend more time at the resort than parks since it will be our 3rd week using AP. Decisions decisions.

I went second to last week of August this past year and crowds were super manageable. I would call the crowds medium and not heavy. MK is generally crowded 80% of the year anyways so a good touring plan is always a must.

The big problem in August was heat. It was hot all the time, night and day. We are use to hear so it only phased us a bit.

You can't add dining to this deal, but the room & tickets are deeply discounted.
