I am bummed and pretty ticked off right now.

With all the credit card companies pulling all their stuff lately. Last fall I had one credit card company close my account without any notice. I had no balance and hadn't used it for 6 months and one day! I had a $4,000 credit limit and it was a nice "emergency" cushion. When I called about it they said that they closed it because I hadn't used it in 6 months. They would not reopen it. Then about 2 months ago the same company changed the credit limit on DH's account from $4,000 to $300, which was the outstanding balance on his at the time. Still, it was just an emergency card but it's upsetting what that does to your credit score.

Well, this a.m. I was checking our accounts on-line and another company has lowered our credit limit by $2,000, down to the current outstanding balance (plus $200)!!! It's our DISNEY VISA!!! We've been paying that down so that we could put either part of a WDW trip on it this fall or if we don't go then A.J. and I might go on our Disney Cruise. We will have the money for the trip but if we put it on our Disney Visa we usually get credits and at least our Disney Rewards!

We had excellent credit scores but that's being screwed up because of these companies lowering limits so then it looks like we're sitting at the limit! We always pay on time and more than any minimun required! But just because we arent' maxed out to the limit they pull the rug out from under us!!!

Sorry - just had to vent.

I have been reading about this happening to people! I am so sorry!! I just don't understand it.

So we use billions in taxpayer dollars to bail out the banks and they turn around and stick it to the consumers :confused3

Exactly. Something is seriously screwed up here. The rich keep getting richer and the poor keep getting poor. And the darn middle class is slipping into the poor category.

I just love how we are bailing out people who make in the upwards of 500,000 a year. Gee take a pay cut and you won't need so much bail out money.

I am so frustrated and upset with the way things are going right now.
:headache:

I feel your pain and raise you 2 credit card closures/limit reductions.

Don't take it personally, because while it seems that way, it's really not personal. Banks are trying to recapitalize. It's something they have to do because of their loose lending practices over the past 10 years or so, lending to those who they probably shouldn't have made loans to. So because they screwed up, they've got to fix the mistake. One of the easiest way to do that is to pull back credit that isn't being used by their "customers." Of course, the only people who have credit that can be pulled back are the ones that don't carry a balance on their cards. Is it fair? Nope. Not at all, but that's the way it is, at least for now. Maybe after the banks get their lending practices back to normal, there will be less reduction in limits.

The future of credit cards is going to be much different from what we know now. As the government steps in to curb perceived abuse by the companies, you can be assured that they will find another way to make up for the loss in income, as the interest on credit cards are a primary way banks make money. One thing you can expect is that credit cards with perks and low interest rates will be going the way of the dinosaur. People who pay their balances off every month are not "good" customers from the banks' POV. They are lending you money for a month and not making anything for doing so. I have read that that practice will be ending soon, with interest beginning to accrue from the date of the use.

We used to use our CC's for everything, pay them off monthly or as quickly as possible, but now we're moving more toward using cash for everything. We're more likely to use our debit card now; choosing the credit option for the extra protection that comes along with that choice.

Only 8 more pages and we'll be moving to a new home!

Of course, as slow as it's been around here lately that may still take weeks!

Maybe we should we get a pool going to see who is actually going to be last?

I know it won't be me. Maybe Kimmar...I can see her posting 10 times in a row if she thinks it will win her a prize...:rolleyes1

Evening-just checking in-and upset right now that the winner of AI has to be a cookie cutter image of last years winner-Ughhh:headache:
