Are you planning to do anything - excursions - when you cruise? Matthew and I went snorkeling both in Nassau and Castaway Cay and it was the highlight of the cruise! Especially the open water snorkeling in Nassau. If you're going to want to do something like that then you might want to consider the weather. Yes, February there is still very warm to us northerners but is it warm enough for swimming?

But if you go during the summer months when kids are out of school the rates are a lot higher and it's more crowded.

well it's probably going to be either Feb or Oct.

DH would love to do lots of excursions, but with only a 3 day trip it seems like we wouldn't have time for anything.

Don't be so sure about not having time for anything. Our cruise was only a 3-day and we were able to go snorkeling in Nassau and we went snorkeling at Castaway Cay. You have a full day at both!
