Is anyone bringing their younger girls to see Last Song, it seems a little geared toward the older audience?

Have you read the book? It's a good book but I don't know if I will take DD10 and DD6 to see it. They love Miley but it's NOT a kids book. It's a typical Nicholas Sparks book where the characters deal with some kind of adversity while finding "true love", LOL. This one is quite sad, got me very choked up too.

Spoiler: (highlight to read text)
The book deals with a mom sending her 2 teenage children to North Carolina to spend the summer with their dad which they haven't seen in years. Well, it's because dad is dying. Dad and daughter reconnect (of course) and write one last song together.

Hope that helps!

Thanks sooo much, I dont think I like Miley growing up, LOL. I guess we will wait on this one.

I have to agree, I just finished the book and the movie would not be appropriate, not in a sexual sort of way, but in an emotional sort of way if that helps any.

though you already have excellent answers to your question(and there is nothing like getting advice from others), I just wanted to add that there is a good site out there that I have been using. It is called Common Sense Media and it covers movies, tv, books, video games and websites! I have found it to be a good resource!:)

they rate "last Song" as best for 12 and up, but they present the info and reviews in a way that you can make the best call for your kids and family!

I did take my 5th grade dd to see the movie yesterday. It was PG and only had a bit of kissing. I don't know if I'd take a 6 year old but my dd loved the movie.

Yes, there are some very sad parts but most kids have had to deal with real loss and adversity.

This movie & book were written entirely with the goal of giving Miley a more grown up role, so Hannah Montana, it ain't.

I just got back and it is not in my opinion, a movie for young Miley fans. It deals with too much emotional things for most younger fans to understand and it is very sad.

I saw it on Wednesday night when it opened in theaters. There wasn't a dry eye in the house. The thing that had me crying most was the 7-8yr old girl sitting next to me crying hysterically during the sad parts and her Mom telling her "it's alright, it's just a movie hunny, don't worry."

loved this movie, saw it a few months ago at a screening. I agree for younger kids - under 10 - I would think twice. My 11 year old was fine though..

Hannah it is not. Just saw it and I like her better when she is not Hannah. It is a very sad movie. Depends upon the age they may find boring.

I absolutely loved this movie. popcorn:: So did by DD 11. I had previously read the book so knew the topics we would be dealing with. I wouldn't have brought her any younger, though. She loves Miley and there wasn't anything inappropriate. I love all Nicholas Sparks books/movies.:thumbsup2

Thank you so much everyone! My dd is 9, so I think we will sit this one out. We did see her in concert, and even that was a little grown up for her, guess it depends on the child a bit too. The difference between her concert 2 years ago and this one this year was VERY different.

Funny you should mention liking Miley better. That's exactly what DD13 and her friends said last night after seeing it. They dislike Miley and were torn about seeing the movie because she's in it. They ended up loving the movie and DD13 said, "we all almost like Miley, now."
