wow.. and I thought our start date of Aug 22 was early

Ahh... remember the good ol days when we didn't start school until Sept?

Yes I remember those days. But we also went to school until the middle of June. My DD gets out the second week of May.

There is a school in Jacksonville that is starting school on a Friday. :confused3 Why bother?

ds10 has decided that he wants to read every history book we have in the house. He wants to become a history expert.

Right now he's reading "What if you lived.......during the Civil War" At least he's not playing a game on the computer (because then I couldn't!!)

I think that is great that he is showing an interest in that!! :sunny:

In Florida they were trying to go to Year round schooling. You go some many weeks than take a couple of week break. They were saying that children were losing too much of what they learned during the summer.

He's been reading it since he got up... for an hour straight!! Every now and then he gives us some trivia "Did you know that the Indians fought for the south union in the Civil War?"

They tried that here too. A few schools have gone year round, but not too many. I went to year round school and liked it. But I only liked it b/c I had time off when my cousins didn't :rotfl:

The have tried that in CA for the past 5/6 years (at least in Northern) and are now going back to regular.

It is too costly.. they run the schools year round, so there is no break from running the electricity, water, janitors, principles, etc.

So, coming this year '05-'06 they are going back to the old way.
