all the schools are going to a year-round scedule this year....so mine start August 1 or so and they have a week off in October, 3 weeks around Christmas, 2 weeks during March and then I think 6 weeks in the summer 
We are very happy with this schedule....plus, we don't have really hot summers or snow....
