Last minute unplanned WDW trip makes for lots of unplanned magic! May 7-10 w/Pics

We returned to POR and got the children into some dry clothes. By this time, the family was hungry again. So, DD6 and I went up to the food court and ordered the family a whole cheese pizza. This was the most economical meal the whole trip (besides our in-room breakfasts). :thumbsup2 It really is a great deal. Large cheese pizza $13.99 and it fed our whole family.

After dinner, we got to bed early. Tomorrow, we would hit our fourth park in three days ... Magic Kingdom

Coming up ... hot dogs at Caseys, hanging out on Tom Sawyer Island and free Mickey bars oh my!

SATURDAY (May 9, 2009)

:sad1: This would be our last day in the parks. What better way to end our mini-trip than a visit to the Magic Kingdom?!?!?!?!? We arrived around 9:30 am (the park opened at 9 am). Walking past the turnstiles, DS3 turns to DH and says, "We have to get a Buzz FASTPASS." Passerbyers even heard him and smiled. That's my boy! :earboy2:

Our main goals @ MK: Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin, BTMRR and Haunted Mansion

DS3 loves the Buzz ride and talked about it every day prior to Saturday. At every park he asked, "Are we going on Buzz????" "Soon", we kept telling him. He waited so patiently. So of course, our first ride at the park was Buzz with no wait!!!! Since Space Mountain is under refurbishment, Tomorrowland was empty this early in the morning. We rode Buzz twice in a row with no waits. We walked all the way through the queue into a car.

Then, we decided to walk over to the Haunted Mansion. On our way to HM, we stopped to take some photos near the castle. When passing the hub we ran across the horse-drawn trolley. So, DD6 had to make friends with the horse. She loves horses.

We made our way over to HM. This was another attraction with no wait. We walked all the way into the stretching room. DS9 loves this ride. We recently went to Disneyland for the first time. DS9 was so excited to ride HM there. It was such a disappointment compared to the MK version. I know there are some rides a DLP that are superior than their MK counterparts (PoTC, SM, Jungle Cruise, etc ...) Haunted Mansion at MK rocks! After HM, we took the obligatory photos in Liberty Square.

DisneyTripMay2009143.jpg

Then, we decided to walk over to Splash and BTMRR to get FPs. There was already a 40 min wait for BTMRR. SM had no wait. So, DH and DS9 decided to ride SM stand by, while I let DD6 and DS3 play in the Laughin' Place (play area under the train near Splash Mountain). After playing for a few minutes, DS3 comes running up to me, "Mommy! A hidden Mickey!". Then, DD6 comes up and confirms they saw a hidden Mickey. There were a lot of children playing and I didn't want to butt my adult way into "their space". So, I gave DD6 my camera to photograph the "hidden Mickey". And wouldn't you know, they were right! Pretty observant kids.

After DH and DS9 got drenched, DD6 and I went to ride BTMRR.

DisneyTripMay2009138.jpg

DH decided to take the boys over to Tom Sawyer Island and we would meet back up with them over there. During our DLP trip, we ventured over to Pirate's Layre on Tom Sawyer Island and wanted to check out MK's TSI. When DD6 and I disembarked the raft, we came across DH and DS9 playing checkers. It looked like they were having fun just hanging out. I saw a couple of kids eye them playing checkers as if they wanted to play too. But, they were being whisked away by their parents to go have more "fun". We had fun exploring the caves. Then, relaxed a bit under a shady awning in some rocking chairs overlooking Frontierland. That was a VERY relaxing peaceful moment. I almost didn't want to take the raft back to the chaos of the rest of the park. We could view it from afar. :rotfl: It was getting close to lunchtime. So, we made our way back to the dock and headed back to civilization.

I read rave reviews about Casey's on Main Street. So, we decided to dine on hot dogs for lunch. DH and I split at this point. He was going to get us some Buzz FPs for later. I leisurely walked with the kids to Casey's. We decided to cut through from Frontierland to Adventureland (near Aladdin's Magic Carpets). That is where we encoutered the spitting camel. Normally, the children jump out of the way. However, this was another hot Florida day. So, they just stood there hoping to get wet.

We met back up with DH just as he was walking up to Casey's with FPs in hand. One thing to note about us, we DON'T "follow" the crowds. If everyone goes right, we go left. There is limited seating near Casey's (inside on bleachers and the tables out front). There was no need to huddle over people waiting for a table right outside Casey's. We decided to take our food and walk to the Tomorrowland Terrace Noodle Station. We had our pick of seats over there. :yay: There was no one in sight. We picked out some tables right in the corner nearest the castle. Not a bad place to eat lunch. While eating lunch, the stage show came on (Dream Along with Mickey). We had a great view. I couldn't have planned it any better. :wizard:

(Just be warned when eating in this area. "Attack of the ducks!" The ducks were fearless and tried to swipe french fries right out of our hands. I had to run them off.)

Lunch @ Casey's Corner:
Hot dogs
Mini corn dogs
Chili

DH and I both got a regular hot dog. I will admit, it hit the spot. Not bad for a park hot dog. The two boys had the mini corn dogs and gobbled them up. DD6 loves chili dogs. So, we ordered a side of chili and voila a chili dog. They have a fixings bar at Casey's (cheese, onions, relish, etc ...) We plan to eat there again for a quick MK meal (not cheap, but quick :goodvibes).

After lunch, we decided to head out of the park and back to our resort to relax and cool off. It was around 2 PM. We walked into our room to find DD6's stuffed dog on the bed watching tv. Mousekeeping can be jokesters at times. The kids thought that was the funniest thing ever.

It was soooooooo nice to get into the A/C of our room and take off our sneakers and socks. With our bellies full and bodies tired, we all took a mid-day nap. :cloud9:

Coming up ... free Mickey bars and the worst spot ever to watch Wishes!!!!!!

You guys look like you had such a great time. We were also there around the time you were.

I also LOVE Animal Kingdom. They put such great detail into the theming of it.

:welcome: Welcome! How was YOUR trip?!?!?!?!?!

I feel like Alice coming so late to the party... but I just wanted to say I have really enjoyed reading your reports. I actually found you over on the Disneyland boards and followed you over here. I am a WDW vet looking to go to Disneyland for the first time possibly this summer... It's awesome you were able to visit WDW so soon after your DLR trip. Can't wait to read the end of your report.

We're in Orlando now and will hit Epcot for 1 day on Thursday. We have an almost 3 yr old son and almost 2 year old daughters. We'll definitely hit Nemo and friends. Any other epcot attractions you think would be appropriate? Do they still have the Land with the dinosaurs? We'll try to get them on Spaceship Earth as well, I heard they redid it a few years ago.

Let's hope the weather gets better quick!!!

:welcome: Welcome! :flower3: Nice to have you along for the ride. I am so jealous of your upcoming DLR trip. I still daydream about our trip. :cloud9: Disneyland is truly magical and definitely "a must" for any Disney fan IMO.

Intially, we planned to revisit DLR in a few years when they complete Cars Land (DCA). However recently, we've been chatting about renting an RV next year to visit some National Parks with a side trip to DLP. We saw a few National Parks shows this past weekend and it really piqued our interest to visit Yosemite and Yellowstone. Who knows, we may get west sooner than expected. DH is always up for a new adventure.

:rolleyes1 This recent WDW trip actually started out with me just "hinting" to DH that DD6 didn't have school that week (DS9 is homeschooled). Why don't we go "somewhere". Usually with me that somewhere is WDW. :rotfl: I read on the DISboards the crowds were non-existent the beginning of the week. Little did I know, DH would take me seriously. He works from home on Mondays. When I popped my head in to say "Hi!", I saw the WDW site on his laptop. I love my Disney Husband! He gets my Disney obesssion and jumps in with both feet.

The rest is history ...

:welcome: Welcome!

Here are a few of DS3's Epcot Favorites:
The Seas with Nemo and Friends
The Seas with Nemo and Friends Pavilion (at the exit of the ride)
Turtle Talk with Crush
Epcot Character Spot (Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Goofy and "sometimes" Donald)
Innoventions (sending fire engine digital postcard home)
Mission:Space (inside play area at the exit and sending digital postcard home)
Test Track (sitting in all the display cars)
Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros (Mexico)
Hedge Maze (UK)

Our DS3 did NOT like the following rides: (each child is different)
Soarin' (He tried this for the first time on our DLR trip. He cried and screamed throughout the whole ride. Sorry to the people next to us.)
Spaceship Earth (DH and DS9 love this ride. However, it was too long to keep DS3's attention. DS3 had more fun at the Pavilion at the exit.)
Maelstrom (There is one major drop on this ride. It freaked out DS3. Once he got past that he was fine. But, he now refuses to ride it.)

All three of our children enjoy this park. They have fun just walking around World Showcase and visiting the different countries. I have some cute pictures from past visits of them trying on different hats in each country. It was fun for them and me. Also, there is a program called Kid Cot, where you get a mask in WS or card in FW and get something to add at each location. We've done this a few times and even have a few of the "prizes" for finishing. Visiting WS has opened DS9's eyes to travel abroad. He asks at least once a month, "When are we going to Paris?" We have a tentative Disneyland Paris trip planned in four years (when DS3 is older).

Have a magical time at Epcot! :wizard:

:welcome: Welcome fellow Texan!

 There's one thing I noticed about living in Texas during our DLR trip, we live almost equally between Disneyland and Disney World. :thumbsup2 Can't beat that! We live in the DFW area too. We are use to the heat. However, the humidity in Florida was draining. Make sure to drink lots and lots of water in June.

FYI - You can get a FREE cup of ice water at any of the counter service locations that have a soda fountain. Also, Club Cool at Epcot (different Coke products) is a great pit stop for a FREE refreshment.

Have a magical trip! :wizard:

DS3 got into a deep sleep. He doesn't take naps at home. But, WDW wiped him out. He was out of the stroller more than in it. So, he did allot of walking. He slept for four hours. During that time, I started to pack for our early departure the next morning and got another pizza from the food court for dinner. After dinner, everyone cleaned up and changed into different clothing.

We relaxed at the resort until around 8 pm (MK closed at 11 pm). Then, we hopped onto an empty bus to MK. We arrived at 8:22 pm (The reason I remember the exact time is that DH and I were placing guesses on when we would arrive. I won!)

The Magic Kingdom takes on a totally different feel at night. It is romantic IMO. Walking down Main Street with Cinderella Castle illuminated is worth the trip every time to me. There's nothing like it.

We didn't have any major plans for the park. We just wanted to be there. We had FPs for Buzz, BTMRR and SM from earlier (FYI - You CAN use the FP after the timeframe. It just has to be on the SAME DATE). Looking at the crowd, we decided to head towards Buzz. The stand-by line time read ten (10) minutes. So, we entered that line and were going to save the FP for a re-ride. However, when we entered the line it was not moving and looked like more than ten minutes. So, we exited and re-entered into the FP line. We walked through the FP queue in less than a minute (no line) and were on the ride. Yes, we got the "evil eye" from the people in the stand-by line. Don't these people know about FPs?!?!?!?!?!?

CopyofDisneyTripMay2009039.jpg

After Buzz, we were on a mission to find Mickey bars. We ALWAYS have a Mickey bar on each trip. It is just part of being at MK (We don't eat them at any of the other parks. Only at MK.) It was too hot earlier in the day. I honestly was not in the mood to eat ice cream. I was mostly thirsty. But, now that I wanted one, all the carts were closed. A CM here, would tell us to go there and so on ... We were led on a wild goose chase. We found ourselves in Fantasyland on the backside of the castle. That is when we noticed a rope blocking traffic into the castle and realized it was almost time for Wishes (fireworks). So, we put the Mickey bar hunt on hold. We ended up just sitting down near the rope to see the fireworks display (near the carousel). When the fireworks started, I felt like I was in a war zone. We had fireworks in front of us and behind us. Was this a bad joke? I was getting whiplash.

Note to self: DO NOT WATCH WISHES FROM FANTASYLAND!!!

CopyofDisneyTripMay2009071.jpg
CopyofDisneyTripMay2009070.jpg

We got up and left after one minute. We've seen Wishes from Main Street (perfect place IMO). We didn't need to see it from here. We saw a smallish line for Dumbo. So, we got into line. It is a treat for me to ride Dumbo, because my children don't like the Dumbo ride. I know, what is wrong with these children?!?!?!?! I almost didn't get to ride it this time. DS3 and DS9 were complaining and really didn't want to ride. I did. So, DD6 and I stayed in line while DH took the boys to see the fireworks. We could hear the fireworks in line. But, the awning blocked any sort of view. We got up to the main platform area during the finale. So, we at least got to see that. I was like a child on Dumbo. It is just fun to be on something that has been around so long. It is such a MK icon. I love it! While whizzing past the castle, I thought to myself ... this is the best Mother's Day ever!!!! (You have set the bar high for next year honey! ;))

We met back up with DH and the boys. DS9 wanted to go on the HM AGAIN! We still had FP for BTMRR and SM. But, the children didn't want to ride them. Even DS3, who normally is scared of HM, wanted to ride it again. So, off we went to ride HM. Again, with no line. This time exiting the stretching room, we let everyone pass by us. For the first time, we looked around the queue area without being felt like a heard of cattle. It was kind of eerie, but fun.

After HM, we decided to find a snack (I had given up on my beloved Mickey bar). As we were about to cross the bridge from Liberty Square to the hub an aroma was calling us. There is a stand that sells funnel cakes. How could we resist???? So, we grabbed a couple to share and sat with a great view of the castle (DS3 got a dish of ice cream). While sitting there, the park closed. It was nice to end our trip relaxing with the children in view of Cinderella Castle. It's times like that which remind me why we keep coming back.

CopyofDisneyTripMay2009085.jpg
CopyofDisneyTripMay2009082.jpg
CopyofDisneyTripMay2009092-2.jpg

After our late night snack, it was time to exit the park. As we were walking around the hub toward Main Street, DH spotted a cart selling Mickey bars. However, they were all out of Mickey bars. I spotted another cart on the other side of the hub. But, they were closed. Then, I looked behind me and DH was walking up and told the people at the second cart, their Manager (at the other cart) said it was okay to give us some Mickey bars. I guess, DH pleaded our case. They asked how many we needed, we each just eaten half a funnel cake. So, DH said two (2). We would all share them. When DH went to pay for them, they said it was FREE!!!!! We were VERY grateful. It's that kind of Disney magic that was the icing on the cupcake of this trip. :wizard: Main Street and the hub were filled with people exiting. So, we took our treats to our favorite out of the way spot ... Tomorrowland Terrace Noodle Station. While sitting there a nice CM started chatting with us. He was just getting on duty. He was responsible for cleaning the Tomorrowland area (including inside the rides). DS9 went to throw away one of the ice cream wrappers when he noticed there wasn't a bag in trash can. So, he brought it back to the table to throw away elsewhere on our way out. The CM really appreciated his thinking. So, he gave DS9 a special Tinker Bell pin. DS9 was glowing. He likes chatting up the CMs. He got a very special limited edition YOMD pin from the Dream Squad last year. They were "off duty" and just walking the park waiting for their next assigment I guess.

:worship: I hope they do another promo like YOMD. It was fun! We won Mickey ears last December on Buzz. (We ride it enough it was bound to happen eventually! :rotfl:). I got my FIRST pair of Mickey ears at age 36. :earsgirl:

It was finally time to bid MK a tearful farewell. With one last glance at Cinderella Castle at the end of Main Street, we were off. Which meant this trip was quickly coming to an end. I was surprised how busy the buses were at almost midnight. Our line wasn't too long. We were definitely getting a seat. But, I could see the line for Pop from our line. It was well out of the queue.

We barely had off our shoes and pajamas on when everyone dropped into their beds. We all slept well this night. :cloud9:

Tomorrow, we planned to depart around 7:00 am for the long trek home ...

NOOOOOO it's can't be over this quickly.

We head back to WDW in five weeks. Yes, FIVE weeks! This was a very quick unplanned trip. Our June trip has more ADRs (Crystal Palace, Sci-Fi Dine-In, Hollywood Brown Derby, Nine Dragons, Tutto Italia and more ...) and a few surprises sprinkled in for DH's Birthday (A childless dinner and night at Epcot thanks to Kid's Nite Out.). :thumbsup2 I'll make sure to post a June Trip Report. :woohoo: I am getting excited just thinking about the trip.

:goodvibes Jennifer

Thanks for the info - tomorrow morning we are heading to WDW @ 8am sharp. Today we went to SeaWorld and had a great time. Saw most of the animals and the dolphin show that was cirque-de-soliel-ish. Impressive and the kids really liked it. By the time we made it over to Shamu's kid playground the sky looked threatening. Then 5 minutes later when we were in the sandbox (covered) it started pouring and then a thunderstorm came over and lasted for about an hour. :cloud9: The sandbox was slowly starting to turn into a mud-pit and the rain slowed down so we bolted for the car, and made it about 3 minutes before another huge downpour happened. Luckily we have another day included at Seaworld so we'll finish up towards the end of the week.
Tomorrow we're planning on parking @ MK, riding the monorail to Epcot and staying there for a good part of the day, then heading back to MK to finish up at night. Hope the weather stays decent tomorrow!!!

:wizard: Sorry for leaving y'all hanging. I will download the rest of the photos for the below post soon. I've been busy helping out at DD6's school and homeschooling DS9. :teacher:

Will post soon ...
