As my signature indicates I last visited in Jan of '09 with a special friend. After some time apart we got back in touch and are considering a last minute "reunion" over a weekend next month in July. I've never used DVC before, but it seems for this type of trip, it may be worthwhile. Rack rates for the dates I was looking averaged around $1,200 whereas Points would bring me in at about $600-$700. Never used DVC before, can anybody offer some feedback if this is a smart way to book a last minute trip?

If you want to stay at SSR you might be able to get a room if you hurry. Saving money is always a smart thing to do! :thumbsup2

The hardest thing is going to be finding a member who will book something less than 30 days out without money up front. Because if they book it and you don't pay, their points go into holding if they have to cancel. That restricts the points tremendously.

Plus availability could also be a problem.

I have no problem doing that since I know it's the last minute. But as to the general question, it seems to me it's cheaper, is that accurate?

You are going the pay the owner their going rate and that should be it. If they ask for a $95 extra fee, run away from that reservation. They are reselling an RCI trade that is not allowed.
