We leave for vacation in one week. While we are only going to go over the MK on the Wednesday we are gone, I am up for any last minute tips. My girls are 10 and 6-they have never been. DH has never been and I have only been once. My mil is also going and she has never been. We are going to do the dinner CM at Liberty Tavern. I want to make sure the kids don't miss the really neat stuff. Oh, and any help with what to pack in my backpack besides camera, suntan lotion and dry socks for the kids would be really helpful!! Thanks!! :thumbsup2

Oh, and my girls have no clue we are going. We weren't going to tell them, just kinda let them read the signs. But is there anything special I can do with Disney stuff to not totally give it away before hand?

You might want to include misters and water in the backpack.

Go early and keep hydrated. Use fast passes.

I agree be there at park opening eat early lunch so you can ride while everyone else is eatting, you fast pass for anything over 40 min. I would plan more than one day for the MK tho, IMHO I dont believe AK is a whole day park infact we normally do MGM and AK in one day..AK in the morning and MGM in the late afternoon and evening..

Photo Copy your Park tkts. front and back and save your receipts. If you loose them guest services in city hall may be able use the info on the copies to replace them if you report the loss immediately.
Get fast passes for Splash Mountain or Big Thunder right before lunch. That way if the MK is unmanageable in the afternoon, you'll still be able to get in one more big ride. :sunny:

Have a great trip.

All I can add is FP Buzz Lightyear.... possibly the best ride in MK. Stay in the shade and get in A/C whenever possible. There's a thread someplace on the board that talks about tips on beating the heat. You might want to look at that too.

Read as much on this board as you possibly can before you leave. Copy, paste and print stuff you want to take with you. There is a lot of useful info and fun ideas floating around here.

If you are having diner at the Liberty Tavern, request a first seating reservation, and request that you are able to ring the diner bell.

They allow ONE family per day to ring the dinner bell. They read a proclimation announcing you and your family, and you get PRIVATE time and pictures with all of the characters. Your family is seated and served before they bring in any other families.

It is the best meal in the MK !!!!

I'm NOT trying to rain on your parade, but having been there with the surprise thing, I'm going to urge you to reconsider and tell them where they are going.

We surprised our nieces and nephew ages 14, 16 and 18 with a trip to WDW. They had never been. It wasn't quite a disasster, btu it was sure a disappointment. The kids had NO idea what they wanted to do and were quite overwhelmed (these are not shrinking violet types either!). Because they had built no anticipation, nor did they have ANY idea as to what the parks and attractions offered, they ended up having a greater desire to swim in the hotel pool and eat junk food than really enjoy the trip (and these are not spoiled brats.)

As well all know from our obsession with these boards <grin>, planning is 2/3 of the fun! At a MINIMUM, I would get them a couple of guidebooks and let them have them on the plane or car ride down.

Please just CONSIDER it. We spent $4,000+ to take our crew and frankly, it was a wash largely due to the "surprise" factor.

1. Be there when the park gates open.
2. Buy some of those small, $3.00 fan/misters at Walmart before you go. The ones that come in neon colors.
3. Be there when the park gates open.
4. Be there when the park gates open.

5. good walking shoes
6. bandaids or moleskin (I prefer) for preventing blisters

Also agree with jennyDrake and the surprise thing, maybe give them the "SURPRISE" on your way out of town, let them get some of the build-up anticipation that you're probably experiencing right now!
