Last-Minute Restricted Stateroom Discounts

I would have grabbed up a Verandah room on one of the Med cruises this summer for an awesome price, but the flights to get us there and back were $1200 each! That would mean flights were only $600 less than a 10 night cruise in a verhandah stateroom for 2!:scared1:

We had GTY for EBTA this May and changed it when the IGT came out several months ago and it saved us several hundred dollars. I was a little nervous about room assignment but really am not too picky about where we are on the ship as long as we are ON the ship! If you want a specific cabin or deck DO NOT pick this rate but I would much rather have the extra cash formy bar tab, excursions etc than a room I will only be sleeping and showering in. The majority of my time is spent poolside anyway.

For the May 14th cruise they released these rate arount Feb I believe.

When I sail, it's usually with friends who are CMs. This sounds very similar to the space available discount they get. We usually have to book last minute anyway because my husband is military. I am also waiting to see if they offer CM or military discounts for Alaska in May... :goodvibes

The transatlantic May 14 has 5C Verandah for $980/pp military MTO rates--

Thanks! We ended up booking the May 10th Alaska because they had MTO rates. I really wanted to do the transatlantic, but it just didn't work out with his leave time. It's really nice that they're offering some great military and last minute rates :goodvibes

Just curious, what is the big deal with the CM rates? Is that top secret info to Disney or what? I would think that would be a great benefit they could use to advertise to potential employees.:confused3

I don't think it's a secret, but it's probably just as a courtesy to other guests. I've sailed with friends and family who are CMs and they aren't allowed to discuss what they paid with other guests onboard. When they adverstise for job fairs, they do mention things like discounts in the ads.

Regardless, it's nice that they're offering the IGT rates for regular guests. I'm interested to hear reports from those who are sailing on those rates :goodvibes

Just found this thread (Thanks MJ!). I realize summer is a busy time, but curious if anyone has seen these categories pop up for any of the later Alaska cruises?

The VGT saved us a substantial amount on our upcoming September 10, 2011 Westbound Transatlantic.

Original category booked: 4A
Total stateroom cost for 2 adults and 1 infant: $6,337.32
(That was booked on-board a previous cruise so it had 10% discount and a $200 OBC).

I cancelled that reservation and booked a VGT instead for the same sailing and the total stateroom cost was $3770.74 with a $25 OBC for booking online.

Regardless of what verandah stateroom we get, the savings of $2392 (even taking the OBC into account) is well worth it.

We should know in 2 weeks which stateroom we have as its only 32 days until our sail date! :)

They had offered the VGT before your final payment/cancellation window? That's great!

.

I grabbed 2 VGT rooms on the October 1st western Caribbean
Saving $400+ per person for 2 adults per cabin. That's a lot of rum drinks

This offer only appeared after final payments were due. Because these sailings were nowhere near full, I could still get Palo ressies. Cool!

No last minute discounts on Alaska...boo hoo......at least that I have seen.

If the VGT are offered after final payment is due, isn't there a penalty for cancelling your original reservation?

I was just checking this same cruise and got the red message of doom...not available.

So you didn't know the final price until you got ready to pay for it?

I am thinking about booking the three days after our 4 day cruise in October for a back to back but want to get a good price of course :cool2:

No, you will know the price before you actually book....they mean the discounted rates did not come out until the penalty phase began.

Found a bunch of these VGT rooms on the Dream in October! I punched 2 a and 2 c. These VGT rooms are cheaper then IS and OV. We have 2 connecting inside rooms booked for Oct.16...maybe we'll get a free upgrade-lol!

I just booked a VGY - Veranda Guaranteed under the restricted rules. I'm traveling alone and booked 10 days in advance. It was a spare of the moment booking. I was already going to Disney and was going to extend the trip a few days but for the same money it cost for 3 nights at Beach Club Villas Studio, I booked the 3 night Bahamas onthe Dream - I think I got a great deal - room is approx. 500-800 less which is great when a single booking. I have NO idea where I will be but it is a veranda and I'm just becoming a Gold Castaway Cruiser on this cruise so it might be pretty good! I will keep you all advised. Cross your ears!!!!:cool1:
