last minute reservation stories

Ours was in May and we had booked SSR for a studio 6 weeks in advance for May. We then decided to switch to OKW for the cheaper points and to check out the new slide this was 3 weeks later. We got to OKE and the room (studio) we were supposed to get had to be repaired or something so they gave us a 1 bedroom instead.

We just booked SSR one bedroom 7/24 - 7/26 at 8 days out. It was our 2nd choice (BCV was not available) and the only thing that was available was SSR. We were very happy. A few years ago, we got VWL ressies (a studio) for the Sun - Wed before Thanksgiving at only 1 week out. We also got ressies there in Oct for one night (a Friday night) at only 1 days notice. We have had very good luck getting everything we've wanted. Either short notice or via the waitlist.

My wife and I retired to fla.last Sept.11th.We moved 15 mins from WDW.Two weeks later Jeanne hit central fla.We had no elec.No air and freezer full of food.My wife called DVC and asked if they had a one bedroom so we could have frig.for our food.They told us come on over. They found us a great one bedroom at BW.We stayed two nights.Even though we live just 15 mins from the mouse house we will never sell our DVC.

I just made a three night resy at a VB DVC studio at 30 days out for around Labor Day.

I was able to add a third night in an OKW GRAND VILLA at about 4 months out (Nov. stay)...yippee!

IS IT HARD TO GET A 2BR AT VB AT THE 7 MONTH WINDOW say in JULY

It shouldn't be too hard as long as you aren't talking about the 4th.

We were there in June, and we're already suffering from withdrawal !!!! Just booked 4 nights at OKW starting the 23rd of this month.

Two years ago, I called MS at 11:00 am needing a studio anywhere on property for a friend... that same day. I got a Boardwalk view studio which was phenomenal! It was the first week of august.

This past June, I called needing again a studio for 2 weeks out. We got standard view BWV studio the week of June 29th through July 4th. Also phenomenal. So sometimes, you can get very, very lucky.

Booked a package off site, That day Just to get us there ..
was cheaper than just booking air..

Then we showed up at the Boardwalk.. Said Hi we need a room .

They said nothing was available at the boardwalk but we could have a 1 bedroom at OKW.. We took it..

There was someone in the back at the Boardwalk that could access you member info...

I just called up DVC around 5:15 p.m. EST and asked for a
5 night stay at OKW from 8/21-8/27...NOT A PROBLEM!
Go for it!

We just decided last night to go before Christmas this year and I was able to book a 2bdrm at OKW Dec 18-22nd. Being our first reservation as members I was pretty excited. We are on the wait list for VWL and Beach Club so we will see if either come through!

I am a pro at last minute bookings. I have booked the day I wanted to arrive, I have extended while on site etc.... I am not a good planner so it tends to work that way.
There have been very few times I have not lucked out. More often then not I get a studio someplace. (OKW is the normal selection, but SSR has come up lately!)

Great stories everyone! I just had a good one happen to me today.

We thought we didn't have any points to use for next month. Well, we didn't until MS was able to juggle around future reservations for us and free up some points for use at the end of next month! We originally wanted BWV but had to settle for BCV and go on waitlist. Well, what do you know...while finishing the reservation BWV became available!!!

I am still in shock. All that juggling really saved us about $400 in a cash reservation!

This past Saturday we stayed at BWV in a studio after making a reservation by phone one hour before arrival. We had to pay cash, but with resident discount came out about the same as points cost. BWV wasn't crowded at all.

Epcot was almost deserted.

It's not very difficult to get last minute reservations if you don't have your heart set on a certain type of room at a specific resort. Flexibility usually pays off, in most situations.

That said, we just returned from a week's stay at VWL ( our first choice ) booked a whopping 10 days in advance of the trip. Had to waitlist for a couple of days, but it worked out!

I was able to get 5 nights at the Grand Californian, Downtown Disney view,(Disneyland) with my DVC points last week for the end of September

I called Member Services in mid-July to see if I could change our Christmas dates at VWL from Dec 18-24 to Dec 21-27. I was not expecting there to be anything available considering:
1. Popularity of the VWL at Christmas
2. How late it is to be making a change
3. Wanting a studio for the Fri and Sat night of the stay to save on points

But Cindy at Member Services came through! We booked a 1 bedroom for Wed and Thurs, a studio for Fri and Sat, and a 1 bedroom for Sun, Mon and Tues. No waitlist even!
This way our DD will only miss part of a day or 1 day of school for the trip.

Tuesday at around 11:30 I decided to run away for 24 hours.

I got on line and booked a frequent flyer ticket on Delta leaving at 2:30. Told my boss I was taking off and headed home, packed and reserved the rental car (notice what's missing here)

Got to the airport at 1:30... Went to the Delta Crown Room and called Member Services. Booked at OKW for that night in a studio!
